Sun Jan 26 201423:53Derrick Wiliams (mouth) iffy to play Monday
Derrick Williams didn't return to Sunday's game after being hit in the mouth, leaving his status for Monday's game uncertain.
Williams started at SF in place of Rudy Gay (Achilles) and finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one block in 32 minutes. The injury likely required stitches but it didn't seem major, and he'd be worth a spot-start if Gay doesn't travel with the team for Monday's game. Owners need to be on the lookout for medical updates.

Sat Jan 25 201404:33Williams pedestrian in start for Gay
Derrick Williams started for Rudy Gay (Achilles) in Friday's overtime loss to the Pacers, scoring seven points on 2-of-9 shooting with 11 rebounds and a steal in 34 minutes.
In fairness to Williams on a pedestrian night the Pacers match up real well with him, and also in fairness to Williams he did a decent job slowing them down defensively with his athleticism. Williams was called for the foul on Paul George's 4-point play, which was indeed a foul but just way before George ever thought about shooting. With Gay's injury not appearing to be serious, Williams is only a mid-to-low level short-term pickup.

Fri Jan 24 201410:35SAC likely to start Derrick Williams and Gray
The Sacramento Bee expects Derrick Williams to be the biggest beneficiary of Rudy Gay's heel injury.
Gay is going to be in a walking boot for 3-5 days and then have his left Achilles' tendon reevaluated. DeMarcus Cousins (ankle) is also in a walking boot and on crutches. It opens up a monster opportunity for Williams, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 draft who is still just 22 years old. In seven starts for the Kings so far this season, he's averaged 12.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 0.4 3-pointers. He has the skill to do more however, as evidenced by the 22 points and 11 boards he put up in 40 minutes off the bench on Wednesday. There's plug-n-play appeal here as long as owners realize Williams has to face the Pacers' dominant defense Friday night. Offensively challenged Aaron Gray is expected to start in place of Cousins.

Thu Jan 23 201400:37Derrick Williams goes for 22 & 11 in loss
Derrick Williams hit 7-of-15 shots and three 3-pointers for 22 points and 11 rebounds in 40 minutes on Wednesday.
Both Rudy Gay (Achilles) and DeMarcus Cousins (ankle) went down with potentially serious injuries tonight, meaning Williams could be ready to see some ridiculous minutes. He'll lose a lot of a appeal if Gay and Cousins aren't expected to miss much time, but if they're going to be out, Williams looks like an excellent pick up right now.

Thu Jan 16 201401:08Derrick Williams scores 16 in win
Derrick Williams came off the bench for 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal on 7-of-11 shooting in 28 minutes on Wednesday.
Williams is now averaging 13.2 points and 4.8 rebounds over his last five games, meaning deep-league owners in need of a warm body should take notice.

Sat Jan 11 201402:37Derrick Williams scores 14 points vs. Magic
Derrick Williams scored 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting with six rebounds in 32 minutes off the bench on Friday against the Magic.
Williams had an outstanding windmill hammer dunk and generally played well, but we have to be real and point out that the Magic were awful tonight and Williams cut down on the mental and defensive mistakes. He has very little margin for error and Carl Landry will be returning soon, so Williams can be left on waivers in most formats.

Fri Jan 3 201410:54Derrick Williams buried by Rudy Gay
Derrick Williams is averaging just 4.0 field goal attempts over the last nine games.
The Rudy Gay trade buried Williams. It's reached the point where he's barely even an asset off the bench for the Kings. "I've got to try to get him some more looks so he can play and be aggressive," coach Michael Malone said. "It's been real tough on Derrick, but I know he's going to keep on competing."

Sat Dec 21 201322:41Derrick Williams hits new low as a King
Derrick Williams played just 12 minutes against the Magic on Saturday with one point and three boards.
He has fallen off a cliff with his third consecutive dud and is losing most of his luster with his new team. Williams owners can start looking elsewhere, especially since the eventual return of Carl Landry won't help Williams' case for minutes.

Fri Dec 20 201323:12Williams struggling for relevance in Sacto
Derrick Williams had another quiet night with seven points on 3-of-5 shooting, two rebounds, three assists and three steals in 27 minutes off the bench on Friday.
The three steals are pretty misleading as defensive numbers aren't really in his repertoire, and it's becoming pretty clear that he's going to struggle to produce now that Rudy Gay is around. The Kings aren't done trading and Jason Thompson is the guy they want to get rid of, but that's not set in stone and Williams has been pretty awful at anything but dunking. He's a low-level stash at best.

Tue Dec 17 201322:22Derrick Williams struggles in loss to Cats
Derrick Williams came off the bench to hit 2-of-4 shots for five points, zero rebounds, one assist and one steal in 22 minutes of Tuesday's loss.
He picked up three fouls, which was part of his problem tonight, but good news could be on the horizon. Rudy Gay left tonight's game with a stiff knee and if he's going to miss time, Williams could start at small forward in his absence. Williams had scored in double figures in four straight and is still averaging 14.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals over his last five games, making tonight look more like a fluke than the start of a downward trend.

Sat Dec 14 201302:44Derrick Williams plays 30 minutes off bench
Derrick Williams played 30 minutes off the bench against the Suns on Friday, scoring 14 points with four boards, one assist, one steal and two 3-pointers.
Jason Thompson was in some foul trouble and played just 14 minutes, so the disparity in playing time shouldn't be quite so vast. That said, Williams looks like he'll be a nice player off the bench and getting the green light from 3-point range will really help his fantasy value. He's worth owning in standard leagues until he cools off. As a quick aside, fantasy owners should care more about production and minutes than which players are starting.

Thu Dec 12 201301:24Derrick Williams goes for 13 & 7 in loss
Derrick Williams hit 6-of-11 shots for 13 points, seven rebounds and a block in 32 minutes in another start at small forward on Wednesday.
Williams will no longer start at small forward now that Rudy Gay is ready to go for the Kings, but could easily replace Jason Thompson as the starting power forward going, well, forward. And given the fact that he might stick in the starting five for the Kings, owners should just hold onto him until we find out how the Kings' starting lineup and rotation will shake out.

Tue Dec 10 201301:01Derrick Williams scores career-high 31 points
Derrick Williams scored a career-high 31 points in his start at small forward on Monday to go with five boards, five steals and three 3-pointers in 35 minutes.
It was a fast-break fest for Williams and the Kings with their 23 points on the break and it was highlighted by Isaiah Thomas throwing a lob pass off the glass to Williams for the reverse dunk. The Kings traded away most of their depth behind Jason Thompson and DeMarcus Cousins, so Williams will likely be moving to the bench with Rudy Gay at small forward. That's not such a bad gig with the Kings lack of depth on the bench now that Thomas and his 18 points per game are in the starting lineup. If he's still sitting on your wire, your team might have a tough time finding someone to cut for him.

Sat Dec 7 201304:18Williams goes for nine and nine vs. Lakers
Derrick Williams scored nine points on 2-of-5 shooting (5-of-6 FTs) with nine rebounds, two assists and no steals or blocks in 25 minutes on Friday against the Lakers.
Williams is making a handful of bad defensive plays per game and he gums the offense up a bit by not staying in his lane, but he has stayed under the radar and that should mean a continued role like the one you see. The problem for owners is that he doesn't do anything but score, and to a lesser degree rebound. It's questionable whether or not he'll crack the top-200.

Wed Dec 4 201300:46Derrick Williams scores 13, but not much else
Derrick Williams hit 5-of-10 shots for 13 points and had a steal, but that's about all he did in Tuesday's loss to the Thunder.
We've gotten a good look at Williams now that he's starting for the Kings and the results are pretty underwhelming. He's averaging 9.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists, hitting 12-of-26 shots in his three starts. There's an excellent chance he could build on those early numbers, but the bottom line is we just don't see him doing much besides scoring. Hanging onto him for a few more games makes sense, but if you want to drop him for a hot free agent, feel free to do so.

Sun Dec 1 201321:48Derrick Williams quiet in 21 minutes vs. GSW
Derrick Williams finished his second start as the Kings' SF with only four points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes.
He picked up a few quick fouls but the real problem was Mike Malone's decision to ride his second unit -- Jason Thompson was the only Kings' starter to play more than 21 minutes. This dud shouldn't obscure D-Will's potential in Sacramento. "He's exactly the guy we were hoping for when we traded for him," Malone said before the game. "As he gets more and more comfortable with system, his teammates and the terminology, he'll only get better." A bit of patience is warranted.

Sat Nov 30 201305:16Williams posts 12-6-4 line in Kings debut
Derrick Williams played 32 minutes in his Kings debut on Friday, scoring 12 points on 6-of-13 shooting (no threes) with six rebounds and four assists.
Williams did not record a steal or block and while his debut was marked with big dunks and extreme levels of overexcitement locally, at least half of his production came on busted plays. That's the bad news, but the good news is that the Kings are eager to give him minutes and they'll give him every opportunity to succeed, so if you want to take a flier on him be our guests. Just remember that his only bankable skill so far in fantasy leagues has been his scoring, and to a lesser degree his rebounding.

Fri Nov 29 201321:58Derrick Williams starting at small forward
Derrick Williams will start at small forward for the Kings on Friday.
Coach Mike Malone didn't waste any time and will put his newly-acquired forward in with his first unit. Williams has played most of his time at power forward with the Wolves and has struggled in his action at small forward. He's capable of putting up some steals, blocks and triples, so he's worth a look as long as you're not cutting a reliable player to pick him up.

Tue Nov 26 201316:11Kings will use Derrick Williams at SF and PF
Kings coach Mike Malone plans to use newly-acquired Derrick Williams primarily at SF, but he'll "also slide to [PF] at times."
"Right now obviously with losing Luc [Mbah a Moute], there's a void at the three spot," said Malone. "So Derrick is going to get time at the three and he's also going to get time at the four. We'll put him in as many positions as we can for him to have success and if that proves to be the four, then it'll be at the four." The Williams-as-SF experiment is reaching its crescendo, and fantasy owners with a roster spot to burn could do worse than stashing him. After all, John Salmons and Travis Oulaw are his nearest competition at SF. He is likely to make his Kings' debut on Friday.

Tue Nov 26 201312:11It's official: Derrick Williams traded to SAC
Timberwolves trade F Derrick Williams to Kings for F Luc Mbah a Moute.
Williams could suddenly have some value, especially if he can play some small forward for the Kings, although he should log minutes at both forward spots. Just beware that it might be 10 days or so before he becomes relevant for his new team. Mbah a Moute will have to have some luck to make a big splash, although a timeshare with starter Corey Brewer could eventually happen.
