Wed Dec 19 201219:42Tyler Zeller starting in place of Varejao
Tyler Zeller, who has been struggling recently, will start for Anderson Varejao, who is out Wednesday with a right knee contusion.
Zeller is worth a spot start if you've got a space open, but his run should be short lived.

Sat Dec 15 201201:46Zeller plays 32 minutes on Friday vs. Bucks
Tyler Zeller logged 32 minutes on Friday against the Bucks, but still managed just six points on 2-of-7 shooting with three rebounds, one assist, one steal, and two blocks.
Zeller has been clinging to 12-team value over the past two weeks, averaging 24.6 minutes, 8.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 0.6 steals, and 1.0 blocks while shooting 45 percent from the field and a low-volume 92 percent from the foul line. He has held this value while being relatively invisible in the box score, which is a double-edged sword in terms of projecting his upside.

Sat Dec 8 201222:47Tyler Zeller looks good off Cavs' bench
Tyler Zeller played well in 29 minutes off the bench, finishing Saturday's game with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting, eight rebounds and three blocks.
Anderson Varejao is capable of sliding to PF to accomodate Zeller, and Tristan Thompson's up-and-down play is exacerbated by foul trouble and defensive lapses. Zeller himself is wildly inconsistent, but the rookie's role could expand whenever the lottery-bound Cavs switch into development mode.

Sat Dec 8 201201:19Zeller goes for five and seven in 15 minutes
Tyler Zeller played 15 foul-plagued minutes on Friday against the Wolves, scoring five points on 2-of-6 shooting with seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
Zeller has some upside but he is still far too inconsistent for use in most formats. Consider him a low-end stash probably best suited for deeper leagues until he can pick it up.

Fri Dec 7 201207:54Tyler Zeller looking to shed mask soon
Tyler Zeller is uncertain how much longer he'll need to wear a mask to protect his broken cheekbone.
Zeller was given a six-week timetable, and he'll look to shed the mask in mid-to-late December. The rookie gave consideration to wearing the mask full-time, but he is looking to get rid of it as soon as possible. Over his last three games, Zeller is averaging 10.7 points, seven rebounds and a block, so owners in deeper formats might want to keep an eye on him.

Mon Dec 3 201223:31Zeller plays well in 20 minutes on Monday
Tyler Zeller played 20 minutes off the bench on Monday and had eight points, four rebounds and one block in a 79-89 loss to the Pistons.
Zeller has played well in his role off the bench and he would stand to be a big winner should Anderson Varejao miss time or get traded. He's worth stashing in some deeper leagues and does currently have some stand-alone value with Varejao on the Cavs.

Sat Dec 1 201223:58Zeller has a double-double on Saturday
Tyler Zeller had his first career double-double on Saturday with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go with two blocks in 31 minutes during a 117-118 loss to Portland.
The 31 minutes were a career high for Zeller. Although, this game did go to double-overtime, so do take it with a grain of salt. Zeller has looked solid in his last two games and is worth a look in some deeper formats.

Fri Nov 30 201223:16Zeller shows up off the Cavs bench
Tyler Zeller scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting with three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 25 minutes off the bench on Friday against the Hawks.
Zeller had become an empty calorie guy with his recent minutes, but maybe he's ready to produce and we'll be watching to see if this can become a trend. His game was NBA ready coming out of college, and he's on the shortlist of players that Byron Scott trusts. Now he just needs to do his part to produce.

Tue Nov 27 201200:08Zeller plays 13 minutes due to foul trouble
Tyler Zeller played just 13 foul-plagued minutes against the Grizzlies on Monday.
Zeller grabbed four rebounds and missed on his only field goal attempt. His production has been spotty for the most part this season, but a night against the Grizzlies' big men probably isn't the best time for a measurement. He's on the shortlist of players that Byron Scott trusts right now, and for that reason he'll be worth a stash if he starts to heat up.

Fri Nov 23 201222:19Tyler Zeller nearly double-doubles in loss
Tyler Zeller had 13 points and a season-high nine rebounds on 4-of-9 shooting in 30 minutes of Friday's loss to the Magic.
This was his best line of the season and he's over his concussion and cheekbone injury. Tristan Thompson was quiet tonight with six points and five rebounds in 28 minutes, and Zeller actually got two more minutes of action that TT tonight. Look for the duo to split minutes going forward, making both of them candidates for inconsistency until further notice.

Sat Nov 17 201222:13Tyler Zeller plays 23 minutes in return
Tyler Zeller (concussion, cheekbone) returned to action on Saturday, notching three points, two rebounds and one block in 26 minutes off the bench.
Zeller will continue to wear a protective mask for the "foreseeable future." The Cavs' bench is terrible and Zeller should play a steady 20+ minutes behind Anderson Varejao and Tristan Thompson -- his return already bumped Jon Leuer to the inactive list, and Byron Scott isn't a big fan of Samardo Samuels.

Wed Nov 14 201211:08Tyler Zeller improving, could return Saturday
Byron Scott said it's "realistic" to think Tyler Zeller (concussion, fractured cheekbone) will be able to return for Saturday's game against the Mavs.
Zeller has been out since taking an elbow to the face Nov. 5. When he returns, the rookie will be fitted with a mask to protect his cheekbone. Anderson Varejao's and Tristan Thompson's minutes will likely decrease once Zeller is back in the fold.

Mon Nov 12 201213:00Tyler Zeller not cleared by NBA, out vs. Nets
Tyler Zeller (concussion, fractured cheekbone) will not rejoin the Cavs in Brooklyn for Tuesday's game against the Cavs.
Zeller has yet to be cleared by the NBA's concussion testing protocol, although Jason Lloyd suggests that could happen in time for Cleveland's game against Dallas on Saturday. Lloyd also notes it's the concussion and not the fracture that's sidelining Zeller, so he should return when the NBA clears him.

Sun Nov 11 201211:12Tyler Zeller (concussion) probable vs. OKC
Tyler Zeller (concussion) is expected to return vs. the Thunder on Sunday.
Zeller will wear a mask to protect his broken cheekbone, and his return is great news for the Cavs' second unit. The rookie center is averaging a respectable 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 18 minutes per game.

Thu Nov 8 201211:13Zeller (consussion) possible Sunday return
Tyler Zeller (concussion, fractured cheekbone) is doubtful to play on Friday, but he could return for Sunday's game in Oklahoma City.
The Cavs may fit Zeller with a mask and he'll need to pass the league's mandatory concussion testing before being allowed to return to the court.

Wed Nov 7 201219:49Tyler Zeller returns to Cleveland
Tyler Zeller has returned to Cleveland for further evaluation after suffering a fractured cheekbone and a concussion on Monday.
He's out indefinitely and will probably be better off being back at home than traveling with the team. His absence should mean more minutes for both Anderson Varejao and Tristan Thompson.

Wed Nov 7 201210:52Zeller has concussion, fractured cheekbone
Tyler Zeller has a concussion and fractured cheekbone, which will keep him out indefinitely.
Zeller took a blow to the head on Monday, and after being reexamined on Tuesday, it was determined he had a concussion and a facial fracture. There is no timetable for his return and he is now out indefinitely. Tristan Thompson and Anderson Varejao are locked into major minutes as the starters in Cleveland, with guys like Samardo Samuels and Jon Leuer picking up a bit more playing time.

Tue Nov 6 201208:28Tyler Zeller to be reexamined on Tuesday
Tyler Zeller, who took a blow to the head on Monday, will be reexamined on Tuesday.
Zeller's X-rays were negative, but he'll be reevaluated after "some of the swelling subsides." Given that there was swelling, it wouldn't be surprising to see him miss at least one game, but we should know more after he's looked at on Tuesday.
