Kidd-Gilchrist will compete with Gerald Henderson for the fifth and final starting spot in Charlotte during training camp, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Due to the versatility of offseason addition Lance Stephenson, the situation on the Bobcats' wing is fluid. Depending on the success of lineups featuring Kidd-Gilchrist at small forward and Henderson at the two in the top unit, Stephenson will slot wherever he's needed, with no clear indication who represents the leader in the clubhouse. In reality, the decision will likely come down to needing a presence on offenseor defense , the latter of which would press Kidd-Gilchrist into the starting lineup.
Fri May 30 201411:49Mark Price is still working w/ Kidd-Gilchrist
Assistant coach Mark Price is still working with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist on his jump shot for the second offseason in a row.
Rome wasn't built in a day and neither has rebuilding MKG's jumper. He has a major hitch when he's on his way up and Price has been focusing on his release and balance. Kidd-Gilchrist shot a putrid 24 percent on his jump shots last season, so this might be a futile effort.

Wed Apr 23 201422:05Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scores 22 points in L
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist turned in a surprisingly strong offensive effort against the Heat on Wednesday, scoring 22 points with 10 boards, two assists and one block in 34 minutes.
He got in foul trouble early and checked out with five minutes gone by in the first quarter, but really turned it around in his return back on the court. Kidd-Gilchris shot 8-of-13 from the field with all but two attempts coming from within four feet. His 22 points would have been a season high, but it's hard to imagine him playing this well again throughout the series.

Mon Mar 24 201422:00Michael Kidd-Gilchrist still not doing much
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist played 24 minutes against the Rockets on Monday night, shooting 1-of-4 from the field for six points with seven boards and two steals.
That second-year leap probably isn't going to happen for MKG. He has a couple nice hot streaks this season, but his 24.7 minutes-per-game average this season is lower than his 26.0 from his rookie year. Kidd-Gilchrist doesn't project as a guy who will have fantasy value for a while.

Fri Mar 14 201422:03MKG not playing too badly these days
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist shot 4-of-6 from the field for 10 points vs. the Wolves with nine boards, one assist and two blocks in 25 minutes.
He made both his free throws and has made all eight in his last five games. In that span, Kidd-Gilchrist averaged 8.0 points, 5.2 boards, 0.8 blocks and 0.4 steals while shooting 53.3 percent from the field. That won't get it done in the vast majority of fantasy formats.

Sun Mar 2 201422:05Kidd-Gilchrist struggles w/ shot, fouls
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist picked up four fouls in 20 minutes vs. the Thunder, and he only scored one point with zero rebounds to his credit.
MKG's minutes have dropped since the arrival of Gary Neal and Luke Ridnour, both of whom provide court-spacing that he can't give the Bobcats -- he's shooting 46.1 percent this season but he's a combined 23-of-78 (29.5 percent) from outside of eight feet. We're not anticipating a sudden surge from MKG as long as Charlotte is chasing a playoff spot.

Sat Feb 1 201401:38MKG goes for 10 and eight with a steal
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 10 points with eight rebounds and a steal in 27 minutes on Friday against the Lakers.
MKG hit 4-of-7 field goals and avoided injury after a tumble into the crowd. This is a step in the right direction but he hasn't been very productive this season, with value on the wrong side of the ledger in 20-team formats.

Sat Jan 18 201423:36Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scores five points
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist hit a 3-pointer against the Heat on Saturday with five points, five boards, one assist and one block in 16 minutes.
He got himself into foul trouble while defending LeBron and he has the size and athleticism to be an elite defender in the league. His 3-pointer was his first of the season and his offensive game has more holes than a box of donuts, so fantasy owners should be looking elsewhere in most leagues.

Fri Jan 17 201421:57Kidd-Gilchrist picks up the pace. A bit.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored nine points on 4-of-8 shooting with four rebounds, one steal and one block in 28 minutes on Friday.
MKG has a wide open window to land himself fantasy value but the question has always been whether or not he would take advantage of it. This is a serviceable result and owners may want to give him a look with expectations held relatively in check.

Tue Jan 14 201421:43Michael Kidd-Gilchrist struggles in start
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist returned from a six-week absence with a broken hand and hit 3-of-12 shots for eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in Tuesday's win over the Knicks.
He played solid defense against Carmelo Anthony (9-of-22, 20 points), which is really all the Bobcats are looking for out of MKG. The fact he took so many shots is encouraging, but they'll obviously need to start falling for him to offer much fantasy value. Chris Douglas-Roberts didn't get into the game and Anthony Tolliver hit three 3-pointers for nine points in just 18 minutes.

Tue Jan 14 201417:25Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will start in return
Bobcats coach Steve Clifford confirmed during a pre-game interview that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hand) will start at SF on Tuesday.
It's been nearly six weeks since MKG last played and his minutes will likely be held in check by his conditioning, but this is a great sign for anyone who picked him up in anticipation of his return. Anthony Tolliver and Chris Douglas-Roberts were both poor fantasy options while MKG was out and this officially seals their fate.

Mon Jan 13 201413:03Kidd-Gilchrist (hand) on pace to play Tuesday
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hand) practiced again on Monday and he's on pace to play in Tuesday's game vs. the Knicks.
MKG is a shaky fantasy option under the best of circumstances and he hasn't played since Dec. 3, so we're not expecting much from him initially. His return scuttles what value Chris Douglas-Roberts and Anthony Tolliver may have held while splitting SF minutes for the past five weeks.

Wed Jan 8 201414:44Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hand) practices Wed.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hand) went through practice on Wednesday and the Bobcats are hoping to activate him for Tuesday's game vs. New York.
It's his first full practice since breaking his hand back on Dec. 3. The Bobcats have been using a patchwork group at small forward, but their defense has been in the top 10 for defensive efficiency since MKG went down. His offensive game still hasn't come around yet, but he should get plenty of minutes with Jeff Taylor (Achilles) out for the year. The lack of offense will keep his ceiling low in fantasy, so he's not a strong stash candidate.

Wed Jan 8 201412:59MKG (hand) aiming to return next week
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has been fitted for a glove to protect his previously fractured left hand and is hoping to make his return within the next week.
While conditioning could be a factor early on, he'll be welcomed back with open arms by the Bobcats. Jeffery Taylor was lost for the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon and Anthony Tolliver and Chris Douglas-Roberts have been middling options at best in his stead. Kidd-Gilchrist was averaging 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds before going down on December 3.

Sun Jan 5 201414:00Kidd-Gilchrist (hand) might return Jan. 14
The Bobcats hope that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hand) might return as soon as Jan. 14.
This is a rough estimate derived from a somewhat offhand quote by coach Steve Clifford, so we're not taking it as an official update to MKG's timetable. It's encouraging nevertheless, and means that within a few weeks owners should have no use for Anthony Tolliver or Chris Douglas-Roberts in any formats.

Fri Dec 27 201317:23Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has cast removed
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hand) had his cast removed on Friday
He has not been cleared for practice and cannot catch a ball yet. Kidd-Gilchrist was expected to be out 4-6 weeks, which puts his initial timetable at some point in the next couple weeks. He should have some extra opportunity at small forward with Jeff Taylor (Achilles) out for the year, but he still has a lot of work to do on offense. MKG is shooting just 28.0 percent on his shots outside of the restricted area this season, so there won't be much outside of steals, blocks and boards.

Tue Dec 17 201318:16MKG (hand) to be re-evaluated in late Dec.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (fractured hand) will wear a cast until at least Dec. 27, at which point he'll be re-evaluated.
MKG was ruled out 4-6 weeks as of early December, so he's unlikely to return until January. Jeff Taylor has been filling in as the Bobcats' starting SF but he hasn't done much with the opportunity, shooting just 35.7 percent from the field for 9.6 points in 32 minutes per game.

Wed Dec 4 201317:06Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hand) out 4-6 weeks
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a non-displaced fracture to the fourth metacarpal on his left hand.
He said he didn't feel any pain from the injury, but an X-ray revealed the fracture after the game on Tuesday. Kidd-Gilchrist's numbers were taking a dive over his last 10, shooting just 40.0 percent from the field for averages of 6.3 points with only 0.2 blocks, and 0.4 steals. There isn't much of an upside to stash him and the majority of his owners should have moved on. Jeff Taylor and Anthony Tolliver will help pick up the minutes at small forward. Taylor is in the doghouse a bit, but his attacking style fits better in the Charlotte offense.

Tue Dec 3 201323:12Michael Kidd-Gilchrist breaks left hand
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist suffered a broken left hand in Tuesday's game against the Mavericks.
The broken hands are really piling up all over the NBA and MKG is the latest one.

Sun Dec 1 201320:57Kidd-Gilchrist (feet) quiet in return at SF
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist returned from a bout of plantar fasciitis to finish Sunday's road loss with six points and five rebounds in 24 minutes.
Plantar fasciitis is notorious for lingering and it's quite possible that MKG will have some limitations on his activity in the weeks ahead, but the low minutes tonight were due primarily to foul trouble. Despite showing flashes of versatility and the potential for heaps of steals and blocks, the second-year forward has yet to put it all together consistently.
