Wed Oct 1 201410:19McDaniels signed one-year
McDaniels signed a one-year, non-guaranteed contract with the 76ers on Wednesday, Yahoo! Sports reports.
McDaniels is making a statement by signing just a one-year deal instead of the usual rookie contract for an early second-round pick can span up to four seasons. Despite his contract being non-guaranteed, McDaniels can now become a restricted free agent following this season, which could allow him to earn significantly more in his second year than a second-round pick normally would. The 32nd overall selection of this year's draft, McDaniels had been absent from Sixers' training camp, but will now join his team on the court moving forward. At 6-6, 200 pounds and with an outstanding 6-11 wingspan, the ultra-athletic McDaniels has potential to be a fantastic perimeter defender and averaged 17.1 points at Clemson last season. The 21-year-old is expected to compete primarily with Alexey Shved for Philadelphia's starting shooting guard position leading up to this season.

McDaniels was absent from the first day of training camp Tuesday because "his contract hasn't been executed," The Intelligencer's Tom Moore reports.
McDaniels was the No. 32 overall pick out of Clemson, but he apparently wants more than second-round money, as he expected to be taken in the first round. Hopefully this situation gets resolved promptly so that fantasy owners can begin to better gauge the Sixers' shooting guard situation.
Sat Jul 12 201421:28K.J. McDaniels out with an ankle injury
K.J. McDaniels (ankle) will not play on Saturday vs. Utah.
He rolled his ankle vs. the Nets on Wednesday and it's likely swelled up on him. McDaniels was trying to play through it, which looks like a mistake right now. Hopefully he'll be back out there soon after turning heads in Orlando.

Wed Jul 9 201417:41K.J. McDaniels rolls ankle vs. Nets
K.J. McDaniels rolled his left ankle vs. the Nets on Wednesday and went to the locker room.
He tried to play through it, but he went to the locker room with a little hitch in his giddy up after a few possessions. McDaniels has played terrific ball while in Orlando and he's put himself on the radar in several formats.

Sat Jul 5 201409:42K.J. McDaniels added to summer league
K.J. McDaniels has been added to the summer league roster.
The 76ers play in Orlando and Las Vegas, so McDaniels seems like he'll be getting action in both events. Chances are the team will give him a long look and he'll look to solidify his spot in the rotation.

Tue Jul 1 201412:39K.J. McDaniels may only be headed to Vegas
K.J. McDaniels is not listed on the Orlando Summer League roster.
Perhaps he's only going to Las Vegas since the 76ers are one of a handful of teams to attend both events. The team waived James Anderson and opened up some minutes for the second-round rookie, so he'll be worth watching, especially since the front office seems fairly high on him. McDaniels is worth a flyer late in drafts in deeper leagues for now.

Sun Jun 29 201412:0176ers high on rookie K.J. McDaniels defense
76ers GM Sam Hinkie was complimentary of K.J. McDaniels game in a recent interview, citing specifically his defensive abilities.
"He's wildly athletic, and he's really long, with a defensive mind-set," Hinkie said. "He's sort of an unusual player, because he's a big-time shot-blocker from the wing position." McDaniels was the only NCAA player last season to lead his team in points (17.1), rebounds (7.1), 3-point field goals (42), steals (41), and blocked shots (100). Philadelphia ranked dead last in defensive efficiency last season, so bringing on a "defensive-minded" player was a priority for them in this year's draft. If McDaniels can earn minutes over Hollison Thompson and James Anderson, he will certainly have some fantasy appeal.

Fri Jun 27 201414:12Sam Hinkie likes K.J. McDaniels
General manager Sam Hinkie said the 76ers had K.J. McDaniels much higher on their board than the 32nd pick.
"We like a lot about his game," Hinkie said. "He's wildly athletic." McDaniels scored 30 points in two games last season, including the opening round of the NCAA tournament. The 6'6" swingman also boasted an eye-popping 2.8 blocks per game to go with averages of 17.1 points, 7.1 boards, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 triples. McDaniels put up a max-vert of 37 inches and has a wingspan of 6'11", which explains the blocks. He also led the NBA combine in the three-quarter court sprint and is a tantalizing athlete. There's no doubt his skills in the open floor will help him get minutes with the Sixers. He's on the short list of players selected after pick No. 15 who can have fantasy value in 2014-15.
