Thu Mar 15 201219:26Dayan Viciedo strikes out two more times
Dayan Viciedo singled in four at-bats but struck out two more times Thursday against the Indians.
Viciedo is just 4-for-26 (.174) at the plate this spring and has struck out 10 times, including twice in three of his last four games. He's also drawn just one walk. Viciedo holds plenty of upside, but it's a reminder that he has a 48/11 K/BB ratio in 219 major league plate appearances and a 250/79 K/BB ratio in three minor league seasons.

Mon Feb 27 201216:30Dayan Viciedo could play left field
White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Monday that it's possible Dayan Viciedo could play left field this season.
The White Sox appear committed to playing Alejandro De Aza in center field, so this move would allow Alex Rios to play his preferred position in right field. However, there would bit a bit of a learning curve for Viciedo, as he has never played a professional game in left field. The White Sox recently added Kosuke Fukudome, so they could also mix-and-match on occasion.

Sat Dec 31 201116:22Viciedo likely to start in RF for White Sox
Dayan Viciedo is expected to open the 2012 season as the White Sox' starting right fielder.
The Pale Hose traded Carlos Quentin to the Padres on Saturday, clearing the way for the 22-year-old Cuban. Viciedo has a major league-ready bat and should make for a decent later-round pick in fantasy drafts next spring. He batted .296 with an .856 OPS and 20 home runs in 119 games at the Triple-A level in 2011.

Sat Sep 17 201109:02Dayan Viciedo gets day off
Dayan Viciedo received a day off Friday after going hitless in his last 12 at-bats.
It's not clear whether Viciedo will return to the lineup Saturday. "Right now `The Tank' is going through a tough time, our savior," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Remember the guy who was going to take us to the top? He's had a tough time. I'm going to give him a break." The manager's comment is essentially a swipe at GM Kenny Williams, who didn't hide the fact that he wanted to promote Viciedo long ago but was vetoed by Guillen. The reality is that, even after a slump, Viciedo is still hitting .286/.375/.349, which is a better line than a number of White Sox regulars.

Mon Aug 29 201123:07Dayan Viciedo gets two more hits
Dayan Viciedo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Monday's win over the Twins.
He also drew a walk and stole a base. Viciedo has now gone 2-for-3 at the dish in each of his games since being summoned from Triple-A, and on Monday moved up from sixth in the lineup to fifth. The Cuban defector is worth an add in mixed leagues if you're looking for some offensive help.

Sun Aug 28 201119:16Dayan Viciedo hits home run in his 2011 debut
Making his 2011 debut, Dayan Viciedo went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer in Sunday's win over the Mariners.
Welcome back, kid. One of the game's better prospects, Viciedo was tearing up Triple-A ball (.297 BA, 20 HR, 78 RBI) before getting the call Saturday thanks to Carlos Quentin's shoulder injury. Yesterday, manager Ozzie Guillen made it very clear that Viciedo is up to play, not to sit on the bench. All AL-only owners and deeper mixed league owners should be making a move for the outfielder who has third base eligibility in most leagues.

Sat Aug 27 201120:30Dayan Viciedo to start Sunday
Dayan Viciedo will get a start in right field or at first base on Sunday, manager Ozzie Guillen said.
Viciedo isn't in tonight's lineup after being recalled from Triple-A Charlotte earlier in the day. Still, he figures to play most of the time while Carlos Quentin is out.

Sat Aug 27 201117:43White Sox promote Dayan Viciedo from Triple-A
White Sox recalled OF Dayan Viciedo from Triple-A Charlotte.
Viciedo registered a productive .296/.364/.491 batting line with 20 home runs and 78 RBI in 119 games this year at Triple-A Charlotte. He's expected to draw playing time in right field, left field, first base and designated hitter down the stretch. AL-only fantasy leaguers will want to give the 22-year-old a look.

Fri Aug 26 201120:16Report: White Sox to finally recall Viciedo
The White Sox will recall OF Dayan Viciedo from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday to take Carlos Quentin's spot on the roster when he's placed on the disabled list.
The move is overdue. Viciedo endured an awful July (.691 OPS), but has gotten hot in August, particularly over his past 10 games, where he's hitting .343/.385/.743 to go along with four home runs, two doubles and 10 RBI. He played very well for the White Sox during a 38 game cup of coffee last season, hitting .308/.321/.519 across 106 plate appearances. He's worth an immediate add in all AL-only leagues and flier in deeper mixed formats.

Thu Aug 18 201114:41Viciedo day-to-day with hand injury
White Sox prospect outfielder Dayan Viciedo is day-to-day with an injury to his right hand.
Viciedo was pulled from a game with Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday night after attempting to make a diving catch. Fortunately, X-rays came back negative and he isn't expected to miss significant time. The 22-year-old is batting .292/.363/.477 with 17 homers, 71 RBI and an .840 OPS over 476 plate appearances this season and should join the White Sox in September.

Wed Aug 3 201121:18Dayan Viciedo back in Triple-A lineup
Dayan Viciedo (thumb) has returned to the lineup for Triple-A Charlotte.
Viciedo played Tuesday for the first time since being hit by a pitch on the right thumb back on July 23. He finished the game against Durham 0-for-4 with three strikeouts but sports a shiny .304/.361/.495 batting line with 16 homers for the season.

Sun Jul 24 201117:19Is Dayan Viciedo's thumb injury serious?
Dayan Viciedo (thumb) is not in Sunday's lineup for Triple-A Charlotte.
Viciedo left Saturday's game after injuring his right thumb, the same one that he fractured in spring training. The Cuban slugger was positioned well for a promotion, but this setback could keep him from reaching the majors until at least September. Word on the severity of the injury should come within the next few days.

Sun Jul 24 201111:45Dayan Viciedo injures thumb
Dayan Viciedo was removed from Saturday's game for Triple-A Charlotte with an injured thumb.
The White Sox don't think the thumb is broken, but they'll likely give Viciedo at least a few days off. He fractured his right thumb in spring training, so it could be an aggravation of that injury. The Cuban defector sports a .307/.365/.500 batting line with 16 homers this season for Charlotte.

Fri Jul 22 201110:42Sox still in holding pattern with Viciedo
The White Sox still have no immediate plans to promote OF Dayan Viciedo from Triple-A Charlotte.
Adam Dunn and Alex Rios have literally been two of the worst players in baseball this season, but with Juan Pierre heating up of late, the Sox just don't have an obvious spot to stick Viciedo, who is sporting a .311/.367/.507 triple slash through 403 plate appearances. He'll be recalled at some point, likely soon, but the odds he'll make a mixed-league impact don't seem particularly large.

Mon Jun 13 201116:32Viciedo could soon be called up from minors
White Sox general manager Ken Williams indicated Monday that Dayan Viciedo could soon be called up from the minors.
"It would be awfully interesting to have him in this lineup," said Williams. "He's ready. He's obviously got some things he still needs to work on, but I would have no qualms about bringing him here. I'm not going to bring him here to sit. [White Sox manager] Ozzie [Guillen] is not ready to change the mix he has right now, and that has to be respected." Viciedo is hitting .313 with 10 homers and an .877 OPS over his first 61 games with Triple-A Charlotte this season. It's not clear when he'll get the call from the minors, but Juan Pierre figures to lose some playing time once he does.

Sat May 14 201117:44Viciedo to get the call for White Sox?
ESPN Chicago's Doug Padilla suggests that Dayan Viciedo could get called up as soon as Monday.
With Mark Teahen nursing an oblique injury, there is room for Viciedo to provide coverage in both the outfield and third base. He's hitting .312 with five homers and 28 RBI at Triple-A Charlotte this season, but likely won't get enough at-bats to be a factor in re-draft leagues this year.

Wed Apr 6 201114:42ChiSox activate Viciedo, send him to minors
White Sox activated INF/OF Dayan Viciedo from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte.
Viciedo fractured his right thumb when he was hit by a pitch on March 10. Now that the injury is healed, he'll likely spend the early part of the season learning a new position in right field. He should see time with the White Sox at some point.

Wed Mar 30 201120:53White Sox place Viciedo on DL
White Sox placed INF Dayan Viciedo on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right thumb.
Viciedo underwent X-rays earlier this week that showed some progress in his thumb, but he's still a few weeks away from being deemed ready for live action. The White Sox will probably ask him to play several games at Triple-A before they consider activating him.

Sat Mar 12 201110:59Viciedo could miss only two weeks
Dayan Viciedo (fractured thumb) could miss only two weeks of action.
Viciedo will avoid surgery, but the two-week timetable seems to be an optimistic one. He was originally slated to miss 3-4 weeks with the injury, and that's probably still a little more realistic. Either way, he won't be ready for Opening Day and will have to work his way back in the minors.
