Fri Mar 11 201115:17Viciedo X-rays confirm thumb fracture
X-rays Friday on Dayan Viciedo's right thumb confirmed the original diagnosis of a fracture.
Viciedo is expected to avoid surgery, but he could still miss up to a month while in recovery mode. The 22-year-old can resume baseball activities in about two weeks. He's likely to report to Triple-A Charlotte once his thumb heals.

Wed Mar 2 201115:28Guillen impressed with Viciedo in outfield
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen was impressed with Dayan Viciedo's work in right field Tuesday.
"He was great," said Guillen. "It was positive. He made two good plays out there. ... To me, it was more important where the ball's going and how he throws it, (rather) than getting the guy out. He threw it right to the cutoff man, and it was a good thing the guy was out." Viciedo played the outfield during his time in Cuba but has exclusively played at first and third base since signing with the White Sox in December of 2008.

Sat Jan 22 201109:44Viciedo getting some work in the outfield
Dayan Viciedo has been working out in the outfield and will be tried out there in spring training.
The Sox appear set to go with a combination of Mark Teahen and Brent Morel at third base, so they'd like to increase Viciedo's versatility in preparation for a possible bench role. He could also begin the season in the minors. White Sox GM Kenny Williams, for what it's worth, said the 5-11, 240-pounder "has done well" in his workouts in the outfield.

Sun Dec 5 201009:36Williams would be OK with Viciedo at 1B
White Sox GM Kenny Williams said he would be satisfied with playing Dayan Viciedo at first base if he's unable to reach a deal with Paul Konerko.
It would be a huge upset if Konerko doesn't re-sign, and, despite Williams' statement, there's no guarantee the White Sox wouldn't go after another first baseman if Konerko isn't retained. The Chicago Tribune mentions Carlos Pena as a possibility, as he would fit the mold they're looking for as a good defensive first baseman with pop. Viciedo hit .308/.321/.519 with five homers in 104 at-bats in 2010 but drew just two walks while striking out 25 times.

Sun Nov 14 201009:06Viciedo an option at first base for Sox?
The Chicago Tribune's Phil Rogers writes that Dayan Viciedo could be the White Sox first baseman next season if the team is unable to re-sign free agent Paul Konerko.
Viciedo hit .308/.321/.519 with five homers in 104 at-bats in 2010 but drew just two walks while striking out 25 times. Plate discipline is a major issue, and his defense at the hot corner is poor, which has made Brent Morel the more likely option to start there in 2011. Viciedo would likely be a fallback option for GM Kenny Williams at first, as we suspect he would pursue someone from outside the organization should Konerko depart.

Sun Sep 19 201022:15Viciedo not in 2011 3B plans for Sox
Ozzie Guillen opined on Dayan Viciedo on Sunday, saying that he thought that the young Cuban slugger wasn't ready yet.
Guillen said that he's seen some good at-bats here and there, but he doesn't believe Viciedo is ready for a full slate of at-bats yet. Viciedo is still just 21, but his poor defense is already pushing him towards first base, and Brent Morel has proven his readiness on both sides of the game this year. Guillen rightly counseled Viciedo to be more patient at the plate and make some adjustments, but either way it looks like some combination of Morel and Mark Teahen will man the hot corner for the White Sox in 2011.

Tue Sep 7 201014:35White Sox recall Vicedo from Triple-A
White Sox recalled 3B Dayan Viciedo from Triple-A Charlotte.
Viciedo won't get the kind of at-bats that he was trusted with through June, July and parts of August, but he should be a nice late-innings pinch-hitter for the White Sox as they chase the Twins in the AL Central. He has a .268/.268/.451 batting line and three home runs in 82 at-bats this year.
Fri Aug 13 201008:28White Sox send Viciedo to the minors
White Sox optioned 3B Dayan Viciedo to Triple-A Charlotte.
Viciedo was 0-for-15 with eight strikeouts over his final 15 at-bats with the club, pulling his batting line down to .268/.268/.451 with three home runs and seven RBI. As evidenced by his on-base percentage, the free-swinger failed to draw a walk over 82 plate appearances. This was also a problem for him in the minor leagues, so he'll need to make some progress there in order to be successful in the majors. Mark Teahen is expected to be activated from the disabled list before Friday's game.
Fri Aug 13 201000:17White Sox's Viciedo goes hitless again
Dayan Viciedo went 0-for-4 on Thursday and is hitless with eight strikeouts over 15 at-bats in his last four starts.
With Viciedo slumping, the White Sox could demote the rookie for a couple of weeks to make room for Mark Teahen on the roster. He's been an asset against lefties during his time in the majors, but it wouldn't hurt to get him regular at-bats for a little while.
Thu Aug 5 201009:14Guillen doesn't want to overexpose Viciedo
Manager Ozzie Guillen loves what he sees from Dayan Viciedo, but he wants to be careful not to overexpose the rookie.
"I kind of worry (that) I don't want to overexpose this kid, and we are winning," Guillen said. "It would be different if we were desperate to look for something. Every time Viciedo is at the plate, he's very dangerous. This guy has a chance to be a good one. Meanwhile, we are going to pick spots for him to play." Guillen says Viciedo, who is hitting .328 with three homers in 67 at-bats, will continue to split time at third base with Omar Vizquel.

Mon Jul 5 201022:19Viciedo belts first career homer Monday
Dayan Viciedo went deep for the first time in his career Monday.
He also added an RBI single. Viciedo didn't have any extra-base hits in his first nine big league games, but his longball put an end to that dubious streak. With Mark Teahen on the DL, the Cuban defector is trying to stake claim to the third base job, and if he plays well he could keep the job even after Teahen returns.
Sun Jun 20 201012:47Vicideo to make his major league debut Sunday
Dayan Viciedo is set to make his major league debut for the White Sox on Sunday against the Nationals.
Viciedo was disappointing in the minors in 2009, but he's impressed this year to the tune of a .290/.329/.525 line, and is now ready to join the team. He'll bat seventh for the Sox and play third base.

Thu Jun 17 201022:11ChiSox call on prospect Viciedo from Triple-A
White Sox recalled INF Dayan Viciedo from Triple-A Charlotte.
It's about time. The White Sox probably should have called on Viciedo the moment that Mark Teahen hit the disabled list, but they went with Omar Vizquel and Jayson Nix instead. The 21-year-old Viciedo has batted .288 with a .515 slugging percentage and 13 homers in 61 games this season at Triple-A Charlotte. He's a decent option in AL-only leagues.
