Mon May 16 202209:29Xander Bogaerts Would Consider In-Season Contract Offer
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts has the ability to opt out of his current contract after the 2022 season. The Red Sox were unable to ink him to an extension prior to the regular season and Bogaerts had said leading up to the year that he didn't want to discuss his contract once the year began. However, this past weekend, he told Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe that if the Red Sox front office presented a "fair" offer to his agent Scott Boras, that he would be open to taking a look at the offer. We'll see if the Red Sox are able to get something together for the 29-year-old. Bogaerts is off to a great start to the 2022 season, slashing .344/.393/.453 over 33 games.

Thu May 5 202222:52Xander Bogaerts Expected To Opt Out
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts is expected to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract after this season and become a free agent. "He's going to leave," one friend predicted of the Red Sox star. The Red Sox reportedly offered only to add one year at $30 million, which even fans and local media found insulting. With Trevor Story an obvious replacement, some are wondering whether that's why Boston made Bogaerts the low-ball offer. Bogaerts stayed for a hometown discount last time, but he's not expected to do the same again. If it indeed comes true, he'll join Trea Turner and Carlos Correa as three big superstar shortstops on the free-agent market this winter. The Red Sox are struggling as a team, but Bogaerts isn't, as he's hitting .359 with two home runs, 10 RBI and 16 runs scored in 24 games so far in 2021.

Wed Apr 27 202223:55Xander Bogaerts Reaches Base Five Times Wednesday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts was feeling it on Wednesday, collecting four hits and a walk across five plate appearances in the 7-1 blowout over the Toronto Blue Jays. The native of Aruba also scored twice and added an RBI to his ledger. The game brought Bogaerts' batting average to a scorching .397 on the season. He also has one home run, eight RBI, 12 runs, and one stolen base over his first 18 games. This kind of play at the dish, although not sustainable, shouldn't be a huge surprise to fantasy managers. The 29-year-old is a career .291 hitter with a .814 OPS, and he slashed .295/.370/.493 with 23 HRs a year ago. Bogaerts will continue providing excellent production in four categories.

Wed Apr 13 202211:24Xander Bogaerts Gets Day Off
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (rest) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Detroit Tigers. This sounds like a routine day off, so fantasy managers don't have anything to worry about. Christian Arroyo will draw the start at shortstop and bat sixth versus lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. Arroyo doesn't bring much to the table with his bat, so fantasy managers can likely find a better streaming option on Wednesday.

Sun Apr 10 202211:40Xander Bogaerts Goes Hitless In Return To Lineup
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (hamstring) was back in the starting lineup on Saturday against the New York Yankees and went 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts. Bogaerts left Opening Day early with right hamstring tightness but returned the very next day. The 29-year-old had a rough game on Saturday, but he was solid in the season-opener, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in the loss to the Yankees on Friday. It's possible that the Red Sox give him a breather on Sunday night, although the fact that Bogaerts was back at shortstop a day later is a good sign that it's not a serious injury at all. The superstar shortstop should be in all redraft lineups as long as he's in there in the series finale on Sunday against left-hander Jordan Montgomery.

Fri Apr 8 202221:42Xander Bogaerts Leaves Friday's Game With Injury
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts left Friday's game early after injuring his hamstring. Bogaerts departed following a 10th-inning single in which he was seen favoring his leg on his way to first base. He was replaced by Jonathan Arauz at shortstop in the 11-inning loss. Boston manager Joey Cora told reporters after the game that Bogaerts was experiencing tightness in his hamstring, which led to his removal from the game. It is unclear as of yet whether Bogaerts will need a stay on the injured list, but the Red Sox should provide some clarity on Saturday after they see how he's feeling.

Thu Apr 7 202221:46Xander Bogaerts Won't Sign Extension Before Friday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts said there's no chance that he'll sign a contract extension with the team before Opening Day on Friday against the division-rival New York Yankees. Bogaerts has an opt-out clause in his current contract after this season, which he's expected to exercise in order to become a free agent. The Red Sox also failed to reach an extension with star third baseman Rafael Devers, but he's under contract through 2023. If Bogaerts departs Boston after this season, it will allow Trevor Story to move back to his natural position of shortstop. Bogaerts, a three-time All-Star, hit .295/.370/.493 with 23 home runs, 79 RBI, 90 runs scored and five stolen bases in 603 plate appearances over 144 games for Boston last year.

Tue Apr 5 202214:19Boston Discussing Extensions For Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts
The Boston Red Sox have had recent discussions with both third baseman Rafael Devers and shortstop Xander Bogaerts about long-term contract extensions. However, neither player is expecting to reach an agreement before Opening Day this week, and neither Devers nor Bogaerts want to discuss contracts during the regular season. Devers can become a free agent after the 2023 season, while Bogaerts has an opt-out clause in his contract after this year that he seems likely to exercise. The combination of Devers and Bogaerts on the left side of Boston's infield is an elite combo, but the pairing could be in their final season in 2022. RotoBaller has Devers ranked as the No. 10 overall fantasy player, while Bogaerts sits at No. 39.

Mon Apr 4 202209:47Xander Bogaerts Back In The Lineup Monday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts is back in the team's lineup for Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Minnesota Twins. He'll be batting third in the game. The 29-year-old had been held out of the lineup since Wednesday due to general body soreness. There's no reason to believe he won't be ready for Opening Day. Last year, over 144 games, Bogaerts slashed .295/.370/.493 with 23 home runs, 79 RBI and 90 runs. He's ranked No. 6 at shortstop and No. 39 overall in the RotoBaller rankings.

Sun Mar 20 202213:13Xander Bogaerts To Remain At Shortstop
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts will remain at shortstop in 2022 after the team signed Trevor Story on Sunday. Story has agreed to play second base for Boston. Bogaerts has an opt-out clause after the 2022 season that he's expected to exercise, so if Bogaerts leaves after this year, Story could move back to the 6 as early as 2023. Story prioritized winning and was willing to play second base in the short term. Bogaerts finished last season with a .295/.370/.493 slash line with 34 doubles, 23 home runs, 79 RBI and five steals in 144 games. His overall line would've looked a lot better if not for a disappointing second half in which he dealt with a wrist injury. The 29-year-old isn't a big power threat at the position, but he has a solid floor and should once again have plenty of RBI opportunities in a strong lineup.

Mon Feb 21 202216:58Xander Bogaerts As Consistent As They Come
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts had another extremely productive year in 2021, finishing with a .295/.370/.493 slash line, 23 home runs, 79 RBI, five stolen bases and 90 runs scored in 144 games (603 plate appearances). A bout with COVID-19 and a wrist injury in the second half of the season slowed him down a bit. Entering a contract year with an opt-out clause in his contract after the 2022 season, the 29-year-old will be motivated to have another excellent season. Bogaerts has only had more than 24 home runs one time and has topped 100 RBI just twice, but he should continue to be solid in rate stats and will continue to hit in the middle of a potent Boston lineup. After the top tier of fantasy shortstops, Bogaerts is a great consolation prize as RotoBaller's No. 7 shortstop.

Wed Oct 20 202114:39Xander Bogaerts Homers In Game 4 Loss
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts provided all the offense the team could muster in Tuesday's ALCS Game 4, hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. He also doubled in five at-bats. Bogaerts is slashing .316/.395/.605 with three homers, two doubles, six RBI, and seven runs scored in 43 postseason plate appearances. This represents a significant improvement over his career .725 playoff OPS in 42 games. Bogaerts is one of a slew of top fantasy shortstop options heading into 2022.

Sat Oct 9 202120:57Xander Bogaerts Homers In Three-Hit Game
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts was a major contributor to Boston's comeback in a 14-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Friday as he went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. Bogaerts now has six hits, including two homers, and two walks in his first three games and 13 plate appearances of the postseason. He's turning it on at the right time, as he only homered on three occasions after August 20 to finish the regular season.

Sun Oct 3 202100:55Xander Bogaerts Reaches Four Times Saturday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts reached base four times Saturday, going 1-for-2 with three walks in a 5-3 victory over the Washington Nationals. Bogaerts has now walked three times in two consecutive games after failing to reach three walks in any other single game this season. He hasn't helped fantasy managers much over his past seven games, as he has no homers, no steals, no RBI, and just three runs scored, but nevertheless his all-around outstanding season makes him worth a second-round pick entering 2022.

Wed Sep 22 202101:34Xander Bogaerts Homers, Drives In Four Tuesday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts was the offensive star Tuesday, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, four RBI, and a run scored in a 6-3 victory over the New York Mets. It's Bogaerts' 23rd home run of the season, and he's now slashing .379/.438/.793 with three home runs, seven runs scored, and nine RBI over his past seven games. He's getting hot at just the right time for Boston, helping fantasy managers over the finish line as well.

Tue Sep 14 202112:14Xander Bogaerts Takes Paul Sewald Deep
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts hit his 21st home run of the season Monday night, going deep off Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Paul Sewald in the eighth inning of a 5-4 loss. Bogaerts went 2-for-4 in the game, adding a double in addition to the solo shot. Bogaerts now has two multi-hit games out of four since returning from the COVID list, though this is his first homer since going deep in back-to-back games on August 18 and 20. He's primed for a big finish to another strong year for fantasy managers.

Sat Sep 11 202100:23Xander Bogaerts Has Two Hits In Return
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts returned from the COVID list for Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox, and he went 2-for-3 with a walk from the fourth spot in the lineup. Bogaerts showed no signs of rust despite not playing since August 31, and he should be right back in lineups as soon as fantasy managers can slot him in. He carries a .301/.369/.502 slash line with 20 homers, 77 runs, 70 RBI, and five steals into the final weeks of the year.

Wed Sep 1 202119:09Xander Bogaerts Placed On COVID IL
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (COVID) was officially placed on the COVID-19 injured list on Wednesday. Bogaerts was removed during Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays due to a positive COVID test. The 28-year-old is now the eighth Red Sox player to be placed on the COVID reserve list over the last few days, which includes Yairo Munoz who filled in for Bogaerts during Tuesday's game. Bogaerts could be quarantined for 10 days, so fantasy managers can keep a lookout for his return. Utility player Jonathan Arauz will fill in at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game.

Tue Aug 31 202121:19Xander Bogaerts Tests Positive For COVID-19
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts was removed from Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays after testing positive for COVID-19. He went 1-for-1 with an RBI before exiting. The 28-year-old becomes the seventh Red Sox player to test positive within the past few days. Bogaerts is expected to be placed on the COVID injured list and could be out for 10 days. Red Sox infielders Enrique Hernandez and Christian Arroyo are currently on the COVID IL, leaving Boston short-handed in the infield. Yairo Munoz replaced Bogaerts on Tuesday and would see an uptick in playing time while he's out. Munoz is hitting just .100 (1-for-10) over five games in 2021.
