"I would think he views himself as a starting pitcher but understands the situation we're in. The biggest thing is to go out and pitch and perform, and he's capable of doing that. While he might not like the current situation, that's where we are. If he pitches to his talents and abilities, that role can potentially change."

It does not mean that it will remain that way for the rest of the season. He said Buchholz needs to go to the bullpen to "work things out." Buchholz has a 2-5 record in 10 starts, a 6.35 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. He is scheduled to earn $13.55 next season, but the Sox have an option to buy him out for $500,000.
