Thu Jul 21 201115:39Jon Rauch records victory in relief
Jon Rauch picked up the win in relief for the Blue Jays after pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings on Thursday.
Rauch took over after Casey Janssen gave up a game-tying grand slam in the eighth and held the Mariners scoreless for the rest of the game. He hasn't had a save chance since manager John Farrell returned him to the closer's role at the All-Star break, but he's kept himself in position to get the next one the Blue Jays generate.

Sun Jul 10 201115:41Jon Rauch avoids suspension
Jon Rauch avoided suspension but was fined undisclosed amount by MLB for his involvement last week's incident with umpire Alfonso Marquez.
Rauch looked like a madman when he after Marquez due to some questionable calls on balls and strikes. But, luckily for him, his manager and teammates held him back so he never made contact with the umpire, which surely saved him from a suspension. Rauch is expected to serve as the Blue Jays' closer in the short term while Frank Francisco sorts through his issues.

Sat Jul 9 201112:43Jon Rauch will be used as Jays closer for now
Blue Jays manager John Farrell said before Friday's game that Jon Rauch would be used as the team's closer while Frank Francisco works through his problems.
We knew that Francisco had been bumped from the role, but we weren't sure if Farrell would go with Rauch or Octavio Dotel, who has pitched the best of the triumvirate of late. Now we know it will be Rauch, who has converted 7-of-9 save chances this season but who has a 5.40 ERA over his last nine appearances and a 4.21 ERA for the season. We're guessing Francisco will probably get the job back shortly after the All-Star break, but with the Jays bullpen this season, you never know.

Tue Jul 5 201109:38Rauch could be facing discipline for blowup
Jon Rauch could be facing discipline for his blowup Saturday on home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez.
Rauch had to be restrained and eventually lost his entire jersey as the Toronto coaching staff held him back. He was upset about a few borderline pitches that allowed the Phillies to pad their late lead. MLB is reviewing the tape.

Thu Jun 16 201115:26Jon Rauch gives up two runs in loss
Jon Rauch took a loss after giving up two runs in a tie game Thursday against the Orioles.
Rauch entered with the score 2-2 to begin the top of the ninth and gave up back-to-back singles, putting runners on first and third. Derrek Lee hit a grounder after that and the throw home was too late to retire the runner, resulting in an RBI for Lee and a fielder's choice. Rauch was then pulled, and one of the two inherited runners came around to score afterwards. The poor outing doesn't figure to cost Rauch the Jays' next save chance, assuming they do eventually get another one. They've had just one all month.

Thu Jun 9 201108:37Rauch unavailable with lat issue
Jon Rauch was unavailable to close Wednesday's game against the Royals due to what Blue Jays manager John Farrell called "a little bit of a lat issue."
Farrell was forced to go with Casey Janssen, who was able to lock down his first save since the 2009 season, despite allowing one run on two hits. It's not known how long Rauch will be sidelined, but his condition only adds to the confusion in the Toronto bullpen.

Tue Jun 7 201123:16Rauch earns seventh save in win over Royals
Jon Rauch recorded his seventh save of the season by tossing a perfect ninth inning in Tuesday's win over the Royals.
No Blue Jays pitcher had earned a save since Rauch's sixth in May 27th's win over the White Sox. Frank Francisco took his third loss Monday against the Royals, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over 2/3 of an inning, convincing Toronto to turn Tuesday's save opportunity over to Rausch. Francisco, the former undisputed closer, now has a 6.06 ERA against the 3.65 ERA Rauch has accrued. Both need to be owned in mixed leagues, but we'd guess that Rauch has at least earned the next save opportunity.

Sat May 28 201111:12Jon Rauch records save Friday
Jon Rauch recorded his sixth save of the season in Friday's win over the White Sox.
Rauch gave up a hit but recorded two strikeouts in the inning. The Jays are going with a closer by committee approach moving forward following Frank Francisco's blown save on Tuesday, and Rauch has been given the first shot. He's no guarantee to get the next one, as Francisco, Octavio Dotel and possibly Jason Frasor are all in the mix, but he definitely needs to be owned in mixed leagues.

Sat May 14 201119:50Jon Rauch picks up victory in relief
Jon Rauch pitched scoreless ninth and 10th innings for a win in relief Saturday against the Twins.
Rauch hasn't sulked since his one blown save got him bumped from the closer's role: he's allowed just one hit in 5 2/3 scoreless innings since. The Jays want to give Frank Francisco a chance to lock down the ninth inning, but Rauch should prove to be their most reliable reliever. He might yet pick up a bunch more saves.

Sun May 1 201112:56Farrell says Rauch is Blue Jays' main closer
Blue Jays manager John Farrell said that while he considers Jon Rauch and Frank Francisco "dual closers," he would go to Rauch with "all things being equal."
"We have dual closers, though all things being equal, we would go to Jon because of what he's done," Farrell said. "But if there was a lineup where we thought Frank was a better match, we have no hesitation having Frank close the game." Rauch is 5-for-5 in save chances while posting a 2.45 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. "When he walks to the mound," Farrell said, "there's a very comfortable feeling; he's going to force the opposition to beat him and he doesn't beat himself, because of the ability to throw strikes."

Sun Apr 17 201115:58Rauch could keep closer gig for time being
Jon Rauch may hold on the closer job for the Blue Jays even after Frank Francisco (shoulder) comes of the disabled list Tuesday.
Rauch has posted a 2.70 ERA and 1.20 WHIP while converting all three save chances thus far. "We're not going to not acknowledge what Jon has done," manager John Farrell said. "That was as crisp of an inning the other night when he came into the ninth that you'd ever want to see. Frankie coming back will give us options." We do expect Francisco to get the ninth inning job eventually, but it appears the Jays will, at minimum, ease him into things initially. It would be ideal if you own one of the relievers to also own the other.

Fri Feb 18 201114:11Rauch (ankle) threw bullpen session Friday
Jon Rauch (ankle) threw off a mound Friday.
Rauch twisted his ankle while walking down a flight of stairs at the Blue Jays' spring training complex earlier this week and had to miss a scheduled Wednesday bullpen session. He should have no trouble catching up with the rest of Toronto's relievers.

Wed Feb 16 201117:52Rauch misses session due to ankle tweak
Jon Rauch missed a scheduled throwing session Wednesday because of a twisted right ankle.
Rauch injured the ankle while walking down a flight of stairs earlier this week. He was able to throw long toss on flat ground Wednesday and should be back atop a mound by the weekend. All is well for the setup man.

Mon Jan 17 201115:33Jays ink Jon Rauch to one-year, $3.5M pact
Blue Jays signed RHP Jon Rauch to a one-year, $3.5 million contract with a $3.75 million option for 2013.
Rauch drew very little interest this winter despite posting a strong 3.12 ERA and 46/14 K/BB ratio for the Twins in 2010 and converting 21 of 25 save chances in place of the injured Joe Nathan. He should do well for the Blue Jays in a setup role and might get a chance to close if Octavio Dotel looks shaky at all. Rauch may be worth a late-round pick in fantasy leagues.

Thu Jan 13 201117:19Rauch drawing interest from Rays and Jays
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Blue Jays and Rays, among others, have shown interest in free agent reliever Jon Rauch.
The Twins declined to offer arbitration to Rauch, so he's not going to cost a draft pick, but the assumption is that his asking price is still pretty high. He turned in a quality 3.12 ERA and 46/14 K/BB ratio for the Twins last season, converting 21 of 25 save chances in place of the injured Joe Nathan. He would fit well as a setup man on any major league club.

Tue Nov 23 201022:56Twins decline arbitration to Rauch
The Twins declined to offer arbitration to Jon Rauch.
He would have been a Type B free agent. Rauch turned in a solid 3.12 ERA and 46/14 K/BB ratio this season, converting 21 of 25 save chances in place of the injured Joe Nathan. He will probably be looking for a two-year deal as a setup man.

Mon Nov 1 201010:31Jon Rauch will be a Type B free agent
Jon Rauch will be a Type B free agent this winter.
If the big man rejects an offer of salary arbitration from the Twins and decides to sign elsewhere, Minnesota will receive a supplemental round draft pick. Rauch turned in a solid 3.12 ERA and 46/14 K/BB ratio this season, also converting 21 of 25 save chances in place of the injured Joe Nathan. He will probably be looking for a two-year deal.

Wed Oct 20 201009:20Jon Rauch to have left knee checked out
Jon Rauch is expected to get his left knee looked at "in the coming weeks."
Rauch had fluid drained from the knee and received a cortisone shot before the postseason. The 32-year-old right-hander stepped in admirably for Joe Nathan to begin the year and finished with a 3.12 ERA and 46/14 K/BB ratio to go along with 21 saves in 25 chances. He will be a free agent this winter.

Fri Oct 1 201017:55Rauch (knee) says he'll be ready for playoffs
Jon Rauch (knee) vowed Friday that he will be ready for the playoffs.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire expressed some doubt on the matter after Rauch needed his left knee drained of fluid and received a cortisone shot Thursday. By hook or by crook, we're thinking he'll be there.
