Sun Jun 3 201218:48Travis Wood takes hard-luck loss
Travis Wood held the Giants to just one run on three hits in seven innings of work Sunday, but got stuck with a loss as the Cubs could muster only four hits in a 2-0 defeat.
Coming off a rough start against the light-hitting Padres, Wood rebounded to fan seven and walk only two in his seven frames. Wood struggled in the minors this season, but has now allowed three runs or fewer in three of his four big-league starts. He could be sneaky flier in NL-only leagues. He'll get the Twins in Minnesota next weekend.

Mon May 28 201217:50Travis Wood gives up six runs in loss
Travis Wood surrendered six runs in five innings Monday in a no-decision against the Padres.
In Wood's defense, there was a stiff wind out to center field today, contributing to the four homers he gave up. Still, he didn't help himself at all with three walks and a HBP. He's 0-1 with a 5.94 ERA in three starts since being called up.

Tue May 22 201217:00Cubs recall Travis Wood
Cubs recalled LHP Travis Wood from Triple-A Iowa.
Wood is taking over Chris Volstad's spot in the starting rotation. He's posted an uninspiring 4.57 ERA in 41 1/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level and should be ignored in most fantasy leagues.

Fri May 18 201214:24Travis Wood to take Volstad's spot
Travis Wood will be recalled next Tuesday to take Chris Volstad's spot in the rotation.
Wood was decent in a spot start earlier this month for the Cubs and has posted a 4.57 ERA and 39/11 K/BB ratio over 41 1/3 innings at Iowa this season. He's worthy of considering in deeper NL-only formats.

Thu Mar 29 201212:26Cubs option LHP Wood to Triple-A Iowa
Cubs optioned LHP Travis Wood to Triple-A Iowa.
An easy call, as Wood has allowed 16 earned runs on 18 hits over just 8 1/3 innings this spring, good enough (or bad enough, really) for an obscene 17.28 ERA. We still think the 25-year-old southpaw can be a decent back-end starter in the long run, but he obviously has some things he needs to work on.

Mon Mar 19 201220:01Travis Wood beaten back to the stone age
Travis Wood got shelled by the Mariners in Monday's 12-7 win, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks in just two innings of work.
Wood served up three home runs in seeing his spring ERA explode to 25.07 through 4 2/3 innings. The bad start couldn't have come at a worse time for Wood after Cubs manager Dale Sveum said on Sunday that Jeff Samardzija was a "near lock" for a rotation spot. Wood appears ticketed for the bullpen or Triple-A.

Wed Mar 14 201218:34Travis Wood blasted for six runs
Travis Wood turned in an outing to forget Wednesday, allowing six runs -- five earned -- on three hits and two walks in just 1/3 of an inning against the Brewers.
Yikes. The poor showing comes at a bad time for Wood, as it's just a day after Chris Volstad had another nice performance. We like Wood more for fantasy purposes over the long haul, but Volstad might have an early leg up in the fight for the final spot in the Cubs rotation. Jeff Samardzija is also in the mix.

Fri Mar 9 201217:59Travis Wood has solid Cubs debut
Travis Wood turned in a steady spring debut in Friday's win over the White Sox, allowing one run on three hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings of work.
Wood struck out one in his exhibition debut for the North Siders. Shuttled back and forth between the big leagues and minors by the Reds last season, Wood figures to be given a long leash by the rebuilding Cubbies.

Fri Dec 23 201112:27Travis Wood scooped up by Cubs
Cubs acquired LHP Travis Wood, OF Dave Sappelt, and INF Ronald Torreyes from the Reds for LHP Sean Marshall.
Wood posted a disappointing 4.84 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 106 innings for the Reds this past season but held a 3.51 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 102 2/3 frames in 2010. He has the ceiling of a solid middle of the rotation starter, is under team control through 2016 and will compete for a spot in the Cubs rotation next season.

Fri Dec 23 201110:59Reds get Wood, Sappelt, Torreyes for Marshall
Keith Law of ESPN.com reports that the Cubs will receive left-hander Travis Wood, outfielder Dave Sappelt, and infield prospect Ronald Torreyes in the deal for Sean Marshall.
Law says the trade will officially be announced later Friday. Marshall has been a fine setup man the last few years, but the Cubs got a nice little package for him before he likely would have bolted in free agency next winter. Wood will have a shot to crack the Cubs rotation this season, while Sappelt could be a bench bat. Torreyes turned just 19 in September but has batted .364/.419/.517 in the lower levels of the Reds system and is an interesting long-term prospect.

Reds optioned LHP Travis Wood to Triple-A Louisville.

Tue Aug 9 201115:38Reds recall Travis Wood from AAA
Reds recalled LHP Travis Wood from Triple-A Louisville.
Wood has struggled with consistency this year at the big league level, posting a 5.11 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 16 starts. He should not be considered a fantasy option.

Fri Jul 29 201115:34Travis Wood's start pushed back
Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports that Travis Wood's start for Triple-A Louisville was simply pushed back a day from Friday to Saturday.
Speculation surfaced that he might be involved in a trade or called up, but the Reds have just elected to pitch Matt Maloney on Friday and give Wood the ball Saturday. Carry on.

Wed Jun 22 201113:10Reds option lefty Travis Wood to Triple-A
Reds optioned LHP Travis Wood to Triple-A Louisville.
It appears that it will be Wood that loses his spot in the rotation with the impending return of Homer Bailey. Wood has dealt with his share of bad luck this season, but he's simply been unable to string together good outings with consistency, posting a 5.11 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 16 starts. He's likely to get another shot at some point later this season. Bailey is now likely to get the ball Sunday against the Orioles.

Wed Jun 15 201118:39Travis Wood earns win over Dodgers
Travis Wood held the Dodgers to one run over six innings in the Reds' 7-2 victory Wednesday.
Wood has been unusually wild lately, having walked five today and 13 in his last three starts. He walked a total of 20 batters in his first 12 starts. Still, the results were good today. It helps that the Dodgers don't have anyone besides Matt Kemp who is at all intimidating against lefties.

Sat Jun 11 201102:22Travis Wood goes eight versus Giants
Travis Wood wasn't involved in the decision Friday after allowing two runs over eight innings against the Giants.
It's the first time since his April 2 start that he completed seven innings. Wood has been a disappointment for the Reds this season, but he has pitched quite a bit better since the beginning of May. He's not a bad play in NL-only leagues.

Fri May 20 201122:41Travis Wood good early, shaky late
Travis Wood carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning Friday, but he left with a no-decision after allowing four runs on three hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Indians.
Wood was sailing along but seemed to lose it after giving up his first base hit, as he followed that up by allowing two more singles, a walk and a hit by pitch to force in a run before he was removed. He had been coming off three straight nice outings following his poor start, and given that he was terrific for most of this one, he should be able to easily shake it off. Wood will face the Phillies next.

Mon May 9 201123:36Wood throws 6 2/3 scoreless, homers in win
Travis Wood allowed just six hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings of work against the Astros on Monday, striking out six in a 6-1 Reds victory.
Wood's sterling pitching wasn't even the highlight of his night, however, as he managed to tag Astros starter Aneury Rodriguez for a three-run homer in the third inning. Impressively, the bomb was already the second of his still very young major-league career. The pitching, meanwhile, lowers his ERA from an ugly 6.21 to 5.28. He'll take on the Cardinals at home this weekend.
