Wed Dec 8 201021:16M's make mutli-year offer to C Miguel Olivo
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Mariners have made a multi-year offer to free agent catcher Miguel Olivo.
The Denver Post's Troy Renck caught word of a two-year, $7.5 million offer to Olivo earlier Wednesday evening, and it's quite possible that it came from Seattle. Olivo posted a pedestrian .269/.315/.449 overall batting line in 2010, but he had a .325 average, 11 home runs and 42 RBI in the first half of the season. The M's will be hoping for more of that.

Wed Dec 8 201020:04Olivo likely to find two-year, $7.5M contract
According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, free agent Miguel Olivo is likely to land a two-year, $7.5 million contract this winter.
Renck's source must be on the contract side of things, because he's not exactly sure which club or clubs have made that offer. Olivo hit .325 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI in the first half of the 2010 season before falling off after the All-Star break. That kind of production over an entire year would be massive for fantasy purposes and it's possible in the right ballpark.

Wed Dec 1 201001:05Olvio declines Jays' arbitration offer
Miguel Olivo declined the Blue Jays' arbitration offer.
The Jays nabbed Olivo from the Rockies in early November knowing full well that he would try to test the free agent market this offseason. He will net Toronto a supplemental round draft pick when he signs with another club and has already drawn interest from the Rangers, Dodgers and White Sox. The 32-year-old hit .325 with 11 homers in the first half of 2010.

Sun Nov 28 201009:57Olivo might accept arbitration offer
The Chicago Tribune's Phil Rogers reports that Miguel Olivo is considering accepting the Blue Jays' arbitration offer.
Olivo had a fantastic first half in 2010 before tanking after the break. The Blue Jays declined his $2.6 million option for 2011 but would surely have to pay him more than that in arbitration given that he made $2.5 million this past season. Olivo wants an everyday job somewhere, but it's unclear if he'll be able to find one.

Wed Nov 24 201009:34Jays offer arbitration to Miguel Olivo
The Blue Jays offered arbitration to free agent Miguel Olivo.
The 32-year-old catcher has already drawn interest from the Rangers and White Sox, and will net the Blue Jays a supplemental round draft pick if he signs elsewhere. Olivo had a gorgeous .325 batting average, 11 home runs and 42 RBI before the All-Star break this year but fell off in the second half. The Jays declined his $2.6 million option for 2011 in early November.

Wed Nov 17 201019:35Rangers, White Sox, Jays interested in Olivo
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Rangers, White Sox and Blue Jays have shown interest in free agent catcher Miguel Olivo.
The Red Sox might join the hunt if they're unable to re-sign free agent Victor Martinez. Olivo got off to a hot start in 2010, posting a .325 batting average, 11 home runs and 42 RBI before the All-Star break. But he fell off in the second half to the tune of a .193/.225/.313 batting line and had his 2011 option declined in a clever move by the Blue Jays this fall.

Fri Nov 5 201022:26Dodgers could pursue Olivo
Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times suggests the Dodgers could go after Miguel Olivo.
Russell Martin is coming off a career-low 97 games after a season-ending hip injury, and his game has been in decline the last few seasons. Olivo would represent some nice insurance and would allow Martin to stay fresh down the stretch, though he has indicated a desire to have an everyday job.

Fri Nov 5 201009:08Jays decline Miguel Olivo's option for 2011
Blue Jays declined C Miguel Olivo's $2.6 million option for 2011.
The Jays acquired Olivo from the Rockies on Thursday for a player to be named later. By declining his option they've allowed him to become a Type B free agent, meaning he is allowed to take offers from other teams but will bring the Blue Jays a supplemental round draft pick if he leaves. Olivo could also accept an offer of salary arbitration from Toronto.

Thu Nov 4 201022:16Blue Jays acquire catcher Olivo from Rockies
Blue Jays acquired C Miguel Olivo from the Rockies for a player to be named later.
What a surprise. FOXSports.com's Tracy Ringolsby said Wednesday that the Rockies declined Olivo's option for 2011, making him a free agent. That report was apparently incorrect. The veteran catcher will head up to Toronto, where he should split time with youngster J.P Arencibia for at least the first half of the 2011 season. Arencibia is poised to take over by late July.

Wed Nov 3 201018:31Rockies decline Miguel Olivo's option for '11
Rockies declined C Miguel Olivo's $2.6 million option for 2011.
The Rox attempted to deal Olivo before making their decision on his club option, but they drew only a couple of offers and nothing substantial. He will be a free agent this winter and is likely to gather interest from several teams. The Rockies will either hand over starting duties to Chris Iannetta or search for a replacement on the open market. Some reports have linked the Rockies to high-priced free agent catcher Victor Martinez.

Tue Nov 2 201013:53Teams showing interest in Rox' Miguel Olivo
According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies have received a few trade inquiries on catcher Miguel Olivo.
The Rox have been weighing whether to exercise Olivo's $2.6 million option for 2011, but a trade might present a better scenario. Many teams are looking for help at catcher and Olivo posted a decent overall batting line this year despite a poor second half. He may fetch a prospect of moderate value.

Tue Oct 26 201010:14Rox might not exercise Olivo's 2011 option
According to the Denver Post, the Rockies are now leaning against exercising Miguel Olivo's $2.6 million option for 2011.
The Rox nearly picked up the option at the end of the regular season, but new hitting coach Carney Lansford is gelling with catcher Chris Iannetta and it's possible that the 27-year-old Iannetta could finally move into a starting role in 2011. It makes little sense to pay a backup over $2.5 million. The Rockies have until three days after the World Series to make a decision.

Thu Oct 14 201009:13Rox haven't decided on Miguel Olivo
The Rockies have not yet decided whether to exercise Miguel Olivo's $2.6 million option for 2011.
Because of the new rules in free agency, Renck writes the Rockies will likely have to make a decision within 48 hours after the completion of the World Series. Olivo, 32, earned his first All-Star nod by batting .325 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI during the first half of the season, however he struggled to a .193/.225/.313 after the All-Star break. The club is known to have interest in impending free agent Victor Martinez, so they could just wait to see how the market shakes out.

Tue Oct 5 201015:54Hold up: Rox have not picked up Olivo option
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have not yet exercised Miguel Olivo's $2.5 million option for 2011.
Tracy Ringolsby of FOXSports.com said Tuesday morning that the option was picked up, so we'll have to wait and see which report proves correct. According to Renck, the Rox are hoping to make a bid on free agent catcher Victor Martinez and will pursue him before locking in Olivo for 2011.

Tue Oct 5 201008:16Rox exercise Olivo's $2.5M option for 2011
Rockies exercised catcher Miguel Olivo's $2.5 million option for 2011.
Even if exercising it blocks Chris Iannetta for another year, the $2.5 million option was too good of a bargain to pass up. Olivo turned in a .269/.315/.449 batting line with 14 home runs and 58 RBI in 394 at-bats this season. He's likely to split time behind the plate with Iannetta in 2011.

Fri Oct 1 201023:59Olivo diagnosed with concussion
Miguel Olivo will miss the final two games of the season after being diagnosed with a mild concussion.
Olivo was carted off the field after being hit in the head on a backswing by Albert Pujols in the first inning of Friday's game. You hate to see anybody's season end this way, but the good news is that he is already back with the team.

Fri Oct 1 201020:46Olivo carted off after being hit by backswing
Miguel Olivo was carted off the field after being hit in the head by a backswing by Albert Pujols during the first inning of Friday's game.
Scary situation, as Olivo took a very serious blow to the head when Pujols followed through on his swing. His neck was stabilized by medical personnel before he was removed from the playing field on a stretcher. We're all crossing our fingers for him right now.

Mon Sep 27 201018:18Olivo out of Monday's lineup
Miguel Olivo is out of Monday's lineup against the Dodgers.
Olivo took a kick to the head during Sunday's game, but he is available to play. Chris Iannetta will start behind the dish Monday and bat fifth.

Sun Sep 26 201016:03Olivo's option with Rox becomes mutual
Miguel Olivo's $2.7 million team option for 2011 has become a mutual option with the catcher's 110th appearance Sunday.
The team will have to pay a $500,000 buyout if they choose to opt out, in effect making it a $2.2 million option. Although he's struggled in the second half, it's still a reasonable price for a guy that's hit .271 with 13 homers this year. If the Rox don't bring Olivo back, Chris Iannetta would take over the everyday catching duties.

Sat Sep 11 201009:38Olivo's bat coming alive?
After a horrendous August (.140 batting average), Miguel Olivo appears to be turning it around at the plate lately.
He's batting .409 with five extra-base hits and five RBI over his last six games. The catcher had simply been regressing to the mean after a terrific first half.
