RHP Sam Dyson recorded his 29th save in dramatic fashion as he worked around a bases-loaded situation with one out in the ninth. He became the first Texas pitcher to save a one-run game with a scoreless final inning and allow at least three baserunners since C.J. Wilson did it on July 8, 2008.

RHP Sam Dyson gave up a two-run homer to Tampa Bay's Steven Souza Jr. in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday to see his ERA jump to 2.88. Dyson gave up two runs and three hits in an inning of work. He also walked one and struck out two.

Dyson has already appeared in 39 games and Texas manager Jeff Banister never had him warm despite Dyson converting all 13 of his save chances since being named closer May 18. Sam Dyson is replacing Shawn Tolleson as the closer for the Texas Rangers.Rangers manager Jeff Banister announced the move before Wednesday's game against the Oakland Athletics.Tolleson shared the American League in saves with 11 with Oakland's Ryan Madson and Seattle's Cishek but blew a save opportunity for the fourth time on Tuesday night, giving up Khris Davis' grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning."Shawn will still pitch, just in different situations," Banister said. "You look at his body of work and he's been efficient, effective and sits atop the AL in saves. This is a tough stretch for him."In Tolleson's last two outings, he has two blown saves, adding to his recent struggles. He has converted only two saves in his last five chances."This is not unlike a position player who is struggling," Banister said. "It gives him an opportunity to exhale a little bit."Dyson is no stranger to closing games, having saved two of the Rangers' last three wins. He is tied for second in the AL with 10 saves this year and has a 1.43 ERA since coming over from the Miami Marlins last year."Sam has been relegated to one-inning stints," Banister said. "When you take all the factors, it points to Dyson to give the opportunity to close."The Rangers have leaned heavily on their relief staff this season, leading the AL in bullpen decisions. They're also tops in the majors with six walk-off losses.

Dyson picked up his second save in a 4-3 win over Houston on Wednesday.

Normal closer Shawn Tolleson was deemed unavailable, having pitched the past two nights and three of the past four, so it was Dyson that got the call to close things out.

Dyson picked up his first save of the year on Sunday, recording two outs in the ninth inning of a 2-1 win over the Giants.

It hasn't been a sparkling Rangers debut for the 27-year-old so far --- after allowing a go-ahead homer to Hunter Pence in the eleventh inning of Saturday's contest, Dyson was on the ropes once again on Sunday. After allowing singles to Matt Duffy and Buster Posey, the latter of which scored an RBI, Dyson induced a game-saving double play, erasing the bases-loaded threat. It's been a difficult season overall for the righty, who prior to Saturday's game was sporting a 3.68 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP for the Marlins.

The Marlins traded Dyson to the Rangers on Friday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Dyson sports a mid-to-high 90s fastball, and will give the Rangers another power arm out of the bullpen. In exchange, the Marlins will receive a decent catcher prospect in Tomas Telis as well as a young arm in Cody Ege. Dyson will likely serve in middle relief for the Rangers, who are scrounging for some extra bullpen help.

Dyson struck out one during a scoreless eighth inning as the Marlins lost to the Phillies on Saturday.

Aside from allowing four runs in just one-third of an inning to against the Yankees back on June 18, Dyson has been rock solid in the back of the Miami bullpen. He works a hard, 95-MPH sinker to induce plenty of ground balls and has compiled a 3.48 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 41.1 innings pitched this season. He's not likely to garner many save opportunities, but Dyson remains a valuable contributor in relief for Miami.

Dyson pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his third win of the season Sunday as Miami beat Colorado in 10 innings.

The 27-year-old has been strong in relief for the Marlins this season, with a 2.83 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 28.2 innings pitched, but carries little fantasy value at the present time as he is locked into a setup role for the club.

Dyson pitched a perfect frame during the Marlins' 13-inning victory over the Orioles on Saturday.

While much of the Marlins' bullpen has struggle this seasons, Dyson has been a consistent contributor in middle relief posting a 2.31 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB ratio in 23.1 inning pitched. If he's able to maintain this elevated strikeout rate and consistent control, Dyson has a chance to work his way into a more prominent role over the summer.

Dyson is likely to fill the Marlins' final bullpen spot, MLB.com reports.

Dyson has not been particularly sharp during the exhibition season, allowing eight earned runs over 8.2 Grapefruit League innings, but he has also posted a strong 11:2 K:BB ratio over those frames and with Aaron Crow (elbow) likely to land on the disabled list, Dyson's name has inched it's way up the depth chart. The right-hander was a key cog in Miami's bullpen last season, compiling a 2.14 ERA over 42 inning pitched, but is a long shot to find his way into many high-leverage situations.

Dyson took the loss in Saturday's extra-innings setback against the Rockies, allowing a run on two hits and two walks.

Dyson survived a clean 12th inning before yielding a lead-off double and an RBI single in the bottom of the 13th. Despite allowing runs in each of his past two appearances, Dyson holds an impressive 2.00 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 24:11 K:BB in 27 inning pitched for the Marlins this season.

Dyson allowed two runs (zero earned) over three innings of work in Sunday's loss to the Reds.

The right-hander struck out a pair without a walk. Dyson has been extremely effective in a low-leverage roll out of the Miami bullpen and he's allowed an earned run in just one of his 11 appearances this year. He holds a 1.62 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 13 strikeouts over 16.2 innings pitched for the Marlins.

The 26-year-old has been pitching well for New Orleans, posting a 2.49 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 20/10 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings. He will function in middle relief.
