Tue Jun 16 201510:57Morneau (concussion) hasn't made much progress in recovery
Morneau (concussion) hasn't made much progress in his recovery, MLB.com reports.
Morneau, who has a long history of concussions, is still waiting for his concussion symptoms to fade before he can start strengthening his neck. Rockies manager Walt Weiss believes the first baseman will return before the end of the season, but it isn't a great sign for Morneau that Weiss is even acknowledging the possibility of such a prolonged absence.

Morneau (concussion) remains without a timetable to return from the disabled list, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Morneau suffered a concussion and cervical neck sprain while diving for a groundball in a May 13 game, and though he's since but the latter injury behind him, he continues to experience concussion symptoms. He remains under evaluation in Denver for further treatment, but has yet to resume regular baseball activities. The 34-year-old, who is in the final season of his contract with the Rockies, has a lengthy history of concussions from his time in Minnesota, which will likely prompt the team's medical staff to proceed cautiously with his recovery.

Morneau (concussion) was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday.
The Rockies were forced to transfer Morneau to the 15-day DL on Friday after he reached the maximum amount of time allotted to 7-day DL players. Little has been reported in terms of Morneau's progress and it's uncertain where he stands in his recovery.

Morneau (concussion) is not expected to return to the Rockies during their three-game series with the Reds that begins Monday, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Morneau is still experiencing concussion-like symptoms, so until he's cleared to begin working out and taking batting practice again, it's difficult to project when he might return. While having the 2014 NL batting champ out of their lineup certainly isn't ideal, the Rockies have managed just fine with Wilin Rosario and Ben Paulsen at first base since Morneau hit the DL.

Morneau (concussion symptoms) will need at least a few more days before he could possibly come off the 7-Day DL, the Denver Post's Nick Groke reports.
He would be eligible to come off the DL for Friday's game, but his symptoms are evidently still lingering. Given Morneau's past history with concussions, it seems like a high-risk proposition to start him in weekly leagues next week give our current information. Wilin Rosario and Ben Paulsen should continue to fill in at first base in the meantime.
Sat May 16 201517:12Justin Morneau: (Head) Lands On Disabled List
The Rockies placed Morneau on the 7-day disabled list Saturday with a strained neck and concussion symptoms, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Morneau was dinged up making a diving play in Wednesday's game, and he was placed on the disabled list after it was discovered he is dealing with concussion symptoms. He will be eligible to return to action May 21, but he will have to be cleared per the league's concussion protocol before he gets back on the field. Wilin Rosario is getting the first chance to man first base in Morneau's absence.

The Rockies relayed Friday that Morneau has been experiencing neck stiffness as the result of a diving stop in Wednesday's game against the Angels, the Associated Press reports.
Morneau's removal from Wednesday's game was initially attributed to an onset of dizziness, but Rockies bench coach Tom Runnells clarified that the first baseman now seems to be suffering from a spell of whiplash. It's not something that's expected to sideline him for extended action, but the Rockies figure to turn to Wilin Rosario for the duration of Morneau's absence.
Fri May 15 201518:59Morneau (dizziness) out of lineup Friday
Morneau (dizziness) is out of the lineup Friday, SB Nation's Eric Stephen reports.
He remains out with a bout of dizziness, but with Clayton Kershaw on the mound for the Dodgers, Rockies hitters on the road are not the best play in daily formats Friday. Wilin Rosario will get the start at first base and Morneau should be considered day-to-day.
Thu May 14 201518:58Justin Morneau: (Dizziness) Out Of Lineup Thursday
Morneau is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers, after exiting Wednesday's game against the Angels due to dizziness, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.
It's possible Morneau's absence is unrelated to Wednesday's incident, as the Rockies are facing Dodgers lefty Brett Anderson. The dizziness is still concerning for Morneau and his owners, given the veteran first baseman's extensive concussion history.

Morneau left Wednesday's game against the Angels in the eighth inning due to an apparent bout of dizziness, the Associated Press reports.
Tom Runnells, who stepped in to manage the Rockies on Wednesday with Walt Weiss requiring an emergency appendectomy, said that Morneau felt dizzy after making a diving stop defensively. Runnells indicated that Morneau isn't expected to miss time because of it, but the first baseman's lengthy history of concussions during his days with the Twins likely prompted the team to proceed cautiously. The Rockies will face off against a lefty Thursday in the Dodgers' Brett Anderson, so it's likely Morneau will be held out of the lineup, but he should be available off the bench if needed.
Wed May 13 201516:14Morneau 2-4 with double in Tuesday's loss to Angels
Morneau went 2-for-4 with a double in Tuesday's loss to the Angels.
Morneau may begin to lose out on some at-bats against southpaw pitching with lefty masher Wilin Rosario back from the minors, but the reigning NL batting champ has remains locked into a regular role at first base. While his counting stats haven't been steady of late with the Rockies riding a 10-game losing streak, Morneau is still upholding an excellent .292 average for the season.
Sun May 10 201513:00Morneau out of lineup Sunday against Dodgers
Morneau is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.
Morneau doesn't sit against all left-handers, but with one as tough as Clayton Kershaw on the mound for the Dodgers, the move makes sense from a matchup standpoint. Wilin Rosario will take over for him at first base.

Morneau went 3-for-5 with his third home run of the season, a run scored, and two RBI as the Rockies lost the first game of a double header to Arizona on Wednesday.
Morneau got back on track after three straight games without a hit, pushing his average up to .291. He also doubled in the contest, but couldn't lift the Rockies to a win.
Sun May 3 201514:09Morneau out of lineup Sunday against Padres
Morneau is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Morneau occasionally sits out for the Rockies when the team faces a lefty, but his absence from Sunday's lineup just looks to be rest related. Daniel Descalso will substitute in for Morneau at first base against Padres righty James Shields.

Morneau went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 12-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Morneau has recorded two or three hits in four consecutive games, raising his average to a robust .319 for the season. He's settled into the cleanup role for the Rockies in light of Carlos Gonzalez's early-season struggles, so it may not be long before his relatively low RBI (seven) and run (eight) totals begin to pick up.

Morneau's three-run homer aided the Rockies to a 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks on Monday night. The first baseman later singled and walked.
Morneau came out of the gates a bit slow this season, but with three multi-hit games in a row on his ledger, he's upped his line to .297/.338/.438. While the 33-year-old only boasts moderate power relative to his peers at first base, he's still one of the game's most skilled contact hitters, as last season's NL batting title would illustrate.
Sun Apr 26 201511:06Morneau 3-5 in Saturday's loss to Giants
Morneau went 3-for-5 in Saturday's loss to the Giants.
After being benched in Thursday against the Padres, Morneau has been hot since rejoining the lineup for the series with the Giants. He's 5-for-9 with a run scored over the last two games, raising his average 48 points in the process.
Thu Apr 23 201513:09Morneau out of lineup Thursday
Morneau is out of the lineup Thursday, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.
Morneau has just five hits (all singles) in his last seven starts and has only three extra-base hits in 52 at-bats this season. Daniel Descalso will serve as the first baseman Thursday, but Morneau should be back in action for this weekend's home series against the Giants.
Mon Apr 20 201517:26Morneau batting sixth in lineup Monday against Padres
Morneau is batting sixth in the lineup Monday against the Padres, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Morneau has typically occupied the clean up spot this season, but will slide down two slots as Carlos Gonzalez moves to fourth in the order. The first baseman has struggled at the plate in the early goings of the season as he's slashing just .214/.233/.333 with one homer and two RBI, so the demotion in the lineup could be a result of the poor start.
Fri Apr 17 201517:31Morneau out of lineup Friday against Dodgers
Morneau is out of the lineup Friday against the Dodgers, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
With reigning NL MVP Clayton Kershaw on the mound for Los Angeles, manager Walt Weiss has all but rid his lineup of lefty bats with the exceptions being Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickerson. Wilin Rosario, who is 5-for-20 with a homer against Kershaw in his career, will man first base and bat cleanup.
