Sat Mar 17 201208:26Schumaker 'day to day' with oblique injury
Skip Schumaker is considered ''day to day'' after suffering an oblique injury in Friday's game against the Marlins.
Schumaker described the injury as "not good," and confirmed he's dealing with the same oblique that limited him during the postseason. "Our experience with these things is that you're really day to day until you determine what it looks like," GM John Mozeliak said. "Over the next 24 to 72 hours, we'll have a better read on whether it's a short-term or long-term problem. It's too early to tell now."

Wed Dec 14 201116:37Skip Schumaker deal is for $3 million
Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Skip Schumaker will receive a base salary of $3 million during his two-year deal with the Cardinals.
No word on whether there will be incentives built in, but it's a very reasonable deal given that Schumaker earned $4.7 million over the last two seasons. The 31-year-old batted .283/.333/.352 with two homers and 38 RBI over 95 games in 2011. He's been pegged as a utility player by the Cardinals but could see significant playing time at second base if the team's other options there don't work out.

Tue Dec 13 201100:07Cardinals, Schumaker agree on two-year deal
Cardinals and INF/OF Skip Schumaker avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year contract.
No word on the terms, but we imagine it will be close to his previous two-year, $4.7 million contract. Schumaker, 31, batted .283/.333/.352 with two homers and 38 RBI over 95 games in 2011. He figures to serve in a super utility role moving forward, backing up around the infield and all three outfield positions.

Mon Dec 12 201116:22Cards, Skip Schumaker close to two-year deal
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals and Skip Schumaker are close to agreeing on a two-year contract.
Schumaker is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter, so the deal would keep him in St. Louis through his first year of free agency. The 31-year-old utility man batted 283/.333/.352 with two homers and 38 RBI over 95 games in 2011.

Mon Dec 12 201112:38Cardinals near deal with Skip Schumaker
According to Brian Stull of ESPN 101 in St. Louis, the Cardinals will soon announce a deal for Skip Schumaker.
Schumaker was a potential non-tender candidate this winter after batting just .283/.333/.352 with two homers and 38 RBI over 95 games in 2011. But the Cardinals have some available cash to spend with Albert Pujols departing and consider the 31-year-old a useful utilityman.

Sun Nov 13 201109:58Skip Schumaker ticketed for utility role
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak projects Skip Schumaker as a "super utility" player next season.
It's unlikely the Cards would be willing to pay Schumaker what he'd get in his final year of arbitration, but they'd like to bring him back on a lesser deal. Mozeliak wants to give Daniel Descalso a shot at the second base job, which means Schumaker would back up there and at all three outfield positions. He batted .283/.333/.352 with two homers and 38 RBI while playing 95 games (starting 89) at second base and 40 (starting five) in the outfield this season.

Wed Oct 19 201119:37Skip Schumaker viewed as bench guy
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is viewing Skip Schumaker more as a bench guy for the World Series rather than a starter at second base.
Schumaker missed the NLCS with a strained oblique, and while he's feeling good enough to be added to the World Series roster, it sounds like he's not at the point where La Russa trusts him in a starting role just yet. "I wouldn't hesitate to play him at second, but I'm not sure I will," La Russa said. Nick Punto is starting at second base in Game 1.

Schumaker strained his oblique during the Cardinals' NLDS Game 5 victory over the Phillies and was left off the 25-man roster for the NLCS. He's been working out with his teammates since then. Sat Oct 8 201111:40Schumaker might not be available for NLCS
After leaving last night's game in the third inning, Skip Schumaker may miss the entire NLCS with an oblique injury.
Schumaker will be reevaluated today but admitted during his the post-game interview that it "doesn't look good" to the Dispatch's Derrick Goold. While he appeared to walk off under his own power, the expectation is that Tyler Greene will replace him on the roster. Schumaker batted .283/.333/.351 in the regular season and went 6-for-10 during the NLDS.

Skip Schumaker has been removed from Game 5 with an oblique strain.

Fri Oct 7 201109:37La Russa not sure about Skip Schumaker
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa won't pencil Skip Schumaker (hamstring) into Friday's lineup until he sees how the second baseman feels during the pre-game workout.
Schumaker, who left Wednesday's game with a left hamstring cramp, was not limited during Thursday's workout at Citizens Bank Park and, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "laughed off" any concerns that he wouldn't be available for Game 5. It sounds like he'll be fine to start, but we'll see how he comes through the workout.
