Valencia has been a strong addition for the A's, hitting five homers with a .860 in his 63 Oakland at-bats. He has been regularly hitting clean-up and should have nice fantasy value as the A's appear to giving Valencia regular at-bats in the middle of the lineup for the rest of the season.

Valencia's hamstring issue was just tendinitis according to manager Bob Melvin, leaving him available for Sunday's contest, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.

Valencia (hmastring) will return to the lineup Sunday against the Rays, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.

Valencia (hamstring) is expected to miss at least a few days, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.
Tightness in Valencia's left hamstring has bothered the 30-year-old on and off of late, and it sounds like the A's will give him several days off in hopes of eliminating the problem. Valencia underwent an MRI on the hamstring, but the A's have not suggested anything significant was found.

Valencia got the scoring started Monday night, launching a solo home run in the second inning.
Since coming over from the Blue Jays earlier this month, Valencia has been on a tear. Through 42 at-bats in Oakland, Valencia is hitting .286 with four home runs and nine RBI. The 11 strikeouts are a bit much for 10 games, but the power has been making up for it. The only thing that has kept Valencia out of the lineup since August 7 was back and hamstring soreness.
Sun Aug 16 201512:05Valencia (back/hamstring) in lineup Sunday against Orioles
Valencia (back/hamstring) is in the lineup Sunday against the Orioles, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
After being scratched from Saturday's lineup after feeling a bit banged up, the day off to recuperate was all Valencia needed to heal up. He'll occupy the third spot in the Oakland lineup Sunday and should be an attractive selection in daily formats due to the matchup against the left-handed Wei-Yin Chen.

Valencia hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, then added a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. Valencia is now 7-for-16 since joining the Athletics, with two home runs, two doubles, two walks and five RBI in four games.
Sat Aug 8 201512:38Valencia batting cleanup from designated hitter spot in Saturday...
Valencia is batting cleanup from the designated hitter spot in Saturday's lineup against the Astros.
Valencia's designation for assignment from Toronto raised some eyebrows given how strong of a year (.296/.331/.506) he was having with the Blue Jays, and his first couple of games have seen him hit 3-for-8 with a home run and a double. More notable is that he's getting a premium offensive position against a right-hander in Colin McHugh, considering his extreme platoon split favoring lefties in his career. So far, the A's are giving him the opportunities of a top bat.

Valencia went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk in a 3-1 win over the Astros on Friday.

He made good on his manager's decision and is now 7-for-12 in his career off Keuchel with two homers and two doubles. Look for him to continue to start against lefties as he has obliterated southpaws throughout his career.
Mon Aug 3 201515:10Valencia's contract claimed off waivers by A's on Monday
Valencia's contract was claimed off waivers by the A's on Monday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Valencia was having a strong year for Toronto before their flurry of activity at the trade deadline including the acquisition of Ben Revere made Valencia superfluous to the team. The A's are getting a player who has crushed lefties throughout his career, with this season being no different, hitting .316 against them. With that being said, he's also had a very good year against righties too, hitting five of his seven home runs against them.

Sat Aug 1 201510:54Valencia designated for assignment by Blue Jays on Saturday
Valencia was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Saturday, Barry Davis of Sportsnet Blue Jays reports.
Valencia's designation comes as a fairly major shock, given that he's hitting .296/.331/.506 without much of a platoon split and covering multiple positions. Positional need might have dictated the move, but it's still a weird one. Valnecia should have no shortage of teams that desire him on waivers or in free agency.

Valencia went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's victory over the Phillies.
Even though it was the right-handed Jerome Williams on the mound for the Phillies, Valencia got the start anyway and made the most of it, collecting two hits to raise his average to .300. While he's still a stronger hitter against lefties, hitting .324 against them, he's hitting for a higher slugging percentage against right-handed pitching, with five of of his seven home runs coming against righties.

Valencia continues to see consistent playing time, starting each of the past four games in left field. He'll take a seat Sunday in favor of Ezequiel Carrera, however. The move allows manager John Gibbons to get Valencia a day off while simultaneously getting another left-handed bat in his lineup.

Valencia went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's loss to the A's.
Valencia has not seen a ton of playing time of late, getting just four at-bats since July 12. Despite his limited number of plate appearances, he's hitting for a .305/.340/.546 slash line. Furthermore, despite in the past being known for crushing left-handed pitching and hitting below the Mendoza line against righties over the past three years, this season he's hitting .304 against southpaws and .306 against righties.

Valencia will start at third base and bat seventh Monday against the Rays, Mike Wilner of Sportsnet reports.
With Donaldson getting a rare day off, Valencia gets a chance to start at his natural position, third base. While he does much of his damage against lefties, Valencia gets the start against the right-handed Matt Andriese regardless. While his batting average is more than 100 points higher against lefties, he's actually got a higher slugging percentage against righties and has hit all three of his home runs this season against right handers.
