Valencia went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk Wednesday against the Mets.
Those in daily leagues who started Valencia in this game thinking that he'd feast against New York lefty Jon Niese must have felt headed for disappointment by the time the eighth inning rolled around. That was when Valencia concluded the evening's scoring with a three-run homer against righty Akeel Morris. All three of his homers this season have come against righties despite the fact that he entered the game hitting .405 against left-handed pitching.

Valencia is in the lineup Wednesday, playing third base and batting seventh against the Mets.
The Blue Jays are going with a right-handed heavy lineup Wednesday against Mets' lefty Jon Niese. Valencia is batting .440 with eight doubles against lefty starters this season.

Valencia went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's victory over the Red Sox.
Getting the start against the left-handed Eduardo Rodriguez, Valencia did his real damage against the right-handed Steven Wright, launching his second home run of the season in the fifth inning. He's hitting for a .415/.442/.537 slash line against lefties; however, both of his home runs this season have come against righties. Valencia is a good value play in daily leagues against southpaws as he's a career .373 hitter against them.

Valencia roped two doubles, scored twice and knocked in two runs in a win Tuesday over Miami.
Valencia, as usual, is destroying left-handed pitching, as he owned a .923 OPS against southpaws, and his first double came in the Jays' first inning six-run onslaught against lefty Brad Hand. Valencia's second double came off righty reliever Vin Mazzaro, but he still has a brutal .244 OBP against right-handed pitching.

Valencia will get the start at third base and bat fifth in Monday's game against the Marlins.
Getting a rare start against a right-handed pitcher, Valencia slots into the lineup to give Josh Donaldson a rest from the field. His splits against right-handed pitching are less-than-ideal, with a .231/.244/.436 slash line in 39 at-bats. His upside is not as high as when he makes spot starts against lefties.
Tue May 26 201515:16Valencia in lineup for Tuesday's game against White Sox
Valencia is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox.
Valencia, who will hit sixth Tuesday, will get the start in left field with left-hander John Danks on the mound for the White Sox. Valencia has eight hits, including three doubles and a home run, in 23 career at-bats against Danks.

Valencia went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI in Friday's 8-4 loss to the Astros.
Valencia continues to crush left-handed pitching, as he currently holds a .545/.545/.682 slash line against them while his value drops precipitously against right-handers. Valencia is a great play in daily leagues against lefties as he'll provide good value and historically has seen the ball extremely well out of a pitcher's left hand.
Tue May 12 201515:50Valencia (ankle) remains out of lineup Tuesday against Orioles
Valencia (ankle) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Orioles, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.
An ankle injury forced Valencia from Friday's game, but he's been able to make a couple pinch-hit appearances in the days since. Valencia is not an everyday player -- he typically starts mostly against left-handed pitching -- and thus it's hard to gauge the extent of the issue, but he should be considered day-to-day until he returns to the starting lineup.

Valencia (ankle) went 0-for-1 as a pinch hitter in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Red Sox.
Valencia coming in to pinch hit is certainly an encouraging sign about his ankle, but there has been no further notice about when he'll be back in the lineup consistently. He is hitting for a .351/.368/.459 slash line with virtually all of his damage coming against left-handed pitching. He's a good value play in daily leagues once healthy against left-handers.
Fri May 8 201522:11Valencia exited Friday's game with ankle injury
Valencia exited Friday's game with an ankle injury, Megan Robinson of Spotsnet FAN590 reports.
Valencia went 2-for-3 with an RBI before leaving Friday's game following a slide into second base in the sixth inning. Expect an update on his status as more details become available.
Fri May 8 201516:30Valencia (ankle) will return to lineup Friday against Red Sox
Valencia (ankle) will return to the lineup Friday against the Red Sox, playing right field and hitting sixth, SportsNet's Shi Davidi reports.
With lefty Wade Miley on the mound for the Red Sox and Michael Saunders ailing, it's no surprise to see Valencia in the lineup. He might be a good play in daily leagues Friday given his low price tag and the fact that plenty of runs are expected in this matchup.
Wed May 6 201516:35Valencia (ankle) expected to be good to go Friday
Valencia (ankle) is expected to be good to go Friday, Blue Jays radio play-by-play announcer Mike Wilner reports.
Valencia suffered an ankle injury after tripping on the dugout steps Monday, but it doesn't appear to be a serious setback. It appears he won't be available Wednesday, but, after Thursday's off day, should be back to full availability Friday against the Red Sox.
Tue May 5 201517:02Valencia sprained ankle while tripping on dugout steps Monday
Valencia sprained his ankle while tripping on the dugout steps Monday, Sportsnet's Mike Wilner reports.
Valencia is likely just day-to-day, given that Toronto made the odd decision to exchange infielder Jonathan Diaz for first baseman/outfielder Chris Colabello, leaving the team without any infield depth. Valencia might be able to play in an emergency, as Toronto's other options would involve using Russell Martin or an outfielder in the infield.

Valencia went 1-for-4 with a RBI single and a run scored in Thursday's 5-1 victory over the Indians.
Valencia has been clobbering lefties this season, going 8-for-14 with an unsustainable .571/.571/.714 slash line whereas against righties he's just 3-for-12. For his career, he's hit .334 against lefties and just .227 against righties, so a drastic difference between the two isn't altogether surprising, but his .571 batting average against lefties is a product of a low sample size in addition to seeing the ball better against lefties. He's an interesting value play in daily leagues against left-handed pitching when he plays, but at-bats will come at a premium.
Thu Apr 30 201515:58Valencia in lineup for Thursday's matchup with Cleveland
Valencia is in the lineup for Thursday's matchup with Cleveland.
After sitting out Wednesday, Valencia is back in the lineup with left-hander T.J. House on the mound for the Tribe. He'll man right field, taking the spot usually occupied by Michael Saunders.

Valencia got the start at third base on Saturday, going 4-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
He hasn't seen a lot of playing time so far, and with the Jays not currently scheduled to face a left-handed starter until at least next weekend, Valencia could be mostly stuck to the bench ion the short term despite a 6-for-10 start to the season.
Thu Apr 9 201516:29Valencia in lineup for Thursday's game against Yankees
Valencia is in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports.
Valencia, who hit .321 against left-handers last season, will get the nod Thursday with lefty CC Sabathia on the mound for New York. He will play first base and hit sixth in the Blue Jays' batting order.
Fri Mar 20 201511:39Valencia hit two-run home run in Thursday's Spring Training game...
Valencia hit a two-run home run in Thursday's Spring Training game against the Red Sox.
Valencia is having a strong spring, hitting .286 in 21 at bats with a home run, a triple and a stolen base. Valencia's biggest strength is his ability to hit left-handed pitching. Last season, he hit for a .321/.371/.464 slash line against lefties and a .211/.238/.303 slash line against righties. With Edwin Encarnacion slated to play first base and Donaldson at third, Valencia is likely still in the mix at DH against left-handed pitching. His strong numbers against lefties make him a decent fantasy play in deeper leagues and a good situational play in daily leagues.
Mon Feb 23 201513:08Valencia will compete for at-bats at DH this season
Valencia will compete for at-bats at DH this season, MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm reports.
Edwin Encarnacion will take the everyday starts at first base, meaning Valencia will compete with Justin Smoak and Dioner Navarro for starts at DH. Regardless of where he plays, it is pretty clear that Valencia will primarily be used against lefties, making him a better name for daily leagues than full-season leagues.
Mon Feb 16 201513:13Valencia will begin season in platoon with Justin Smoak at first...
Valencia will begin the season in a platoon with Justin Smoak at first base if Edwin Encarnacion is used as the Jays' regular DH, the Blue Jays' official site reports.
On the small side of a platoon, Valencia's value will likely be limited to deeper leagues. With a career .327/.368/.502 line, he seems ideally suited to share time with Smoak (.709 OPS against righties), especially if Smoak benefits from the move out of Safeco Field as expected.
