Wed May 22 201316:33Bobby Parnell gives up three runs in loss
After entering a tie game in the ninth, Bobby Parnell was charged with three runs and a loss Wednesday against the Reds.
Parnell's only mistake was Shin-Soo Choo's leadoff double. After that came a groundout, an intentional walk, an excuse-me double down the first-base line that Ike Davis could have handled but hoped would go foul, another intentional walk and then a bloop single. Parnell didn't deserve to have three runs added to his total, taking his ERA from 0.93 to 2.21. And he probably doesn't need to be intentionally walking batters when the league is hitting .160 against him this season.

Sun May 19 201317:33Parnell earns sixth save, Mets defeat Cubs
Bobby Parnell earned his sixth save of 2013 in the Mets' 4-3 win over the Cubs on Sunday.
Parnell struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth inning. The 28-year-old right-hander has an exceptional 0.93 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 18/3 K/BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings this season to go along with his six saves. The Mets aren't going to win many games, but Parnell carries plenty of mixed league fantasy value.

Tue May 7 201322:15Parnell gets win as Mets blank White Sox
Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect 10th inning to earn the win over the White Sox on Tuesday.
Parnell entered in a scoreless game and kept it that way by striking out two of the three batters he faced. The Mets closer is now 3-0 but has just three saves despite a microscopic ERA and WHIP. The low save total isn't a reflection of his ability, obviously, but the Mets just aren't likely to win a ton of games. Still, his job appears to be safe and when opportunities are presented, he will get the job done more often than not.

Wed May 1 201315:58Bobby Parnell records save for Mets
Bobby Parnell needed just seven pitches to throw a perfect ninth inning for a save Wednesday against the Marlins.
Parnell was upset about not getting the ball Tuesday in a save situation, but the Mets decided to be cautious after he threw one inning Sunday and two on Monday. The save today was his third in five opportunities.

Tue Apr 30 201300:58Bobby Parnell takes second blown save
Bobby Parnell took his second blown save after giving up a run in the ninth Monday against the Marlins.
If Collin Cowgill had gotten a better break on Rob Brantly's shallow fly to center, Parnell likely would have escaped with the save tonight. He stayed in and pitched a scoreless 10th in a tie game after the blown save. Parnell's closing gig is still pretty safe.

Wed Apr 17 201301:24Bobby Parnell blows save
Bobby Parnell blew his first save of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies.
It wasn't his fault. Parnell came on for a four-out save in the eighth and induced what should have been an inning-ending grounder, but Ruben Tejada's throw to first base sailed high, allowing two runs to score. The hard-thrower then allowed a single and a flyout before striking out a pair in a perfect ninth. Parnell has pitched well in the early going and will at least initially keep the closer job after Frank Francisco returns.

Fri Mar 29 201316:51Bobby Parnell strikes out side against Cards
Bobby Parnell struck out all three Cardinals he faced in the ninth inning in a 7-2 win Friday.
Parnell's spring ends with a 2.13 ERA in 12 2/3 innings. There are still some lingering questions about how he'll handle the pressures of the ninth inning, but we expect that he'll be a perfectly fine closer.

Wed Mar 13 201316:28Bobby Parnell takes loss in relief
Bobby Parnell gave up four runs -- three earned -- in an inning to take a blown save and a loss Wednesday against the Nationals.
Parnell had allowed just an unearned run in six innings this spring, so one bad day isn't going to make much of a difference. All signs point to him opening the season as the Mets' closer.

Sat Feb 23 201315:45Bobby Parnell picks up save against Nationals
Bobby Parnell pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the Mets' 5-3 win over the Nationals on Saturday.
Most closers work early in games at the beginning of spring training so that they can face the opposing team's better hitters. Terry Collins, though, apparently is more interested in seeing Parnell demonstrate his closer mentality against Double-A players. It was mission accomplished today.

Wed Feb 13 201309:08Parnell to be closer if Francisco is hurt
Mets manager Terry Collins called Bobby Parnell on Tuesday night to inform him that he will be the closer if Frank Francisco (elbow) isn't ready for the season.
Collins said as much on WFAN yesterday, but he didn't get around to telling Parnell until last night. The 28-year-old right-hander has struggled in previous opportunities at closer, but there's no question that he has the talent to run away with the job. Track Francisco's progress during spring training, but Parnell could be a nice late-round selection in mixed fantasy leagues.

Tue Feb 12 201314:02Collins wants Parnell to be Mets' closer
Mets manager Terry Collins said on WFAN on Tuesday that he wants Bobby Parnell to be the team's closer.
Collins admitted that he hasn't even spoken to Parnell about the situation, but that's the way he plans to go now that Frank Francisco is shut down due to elbow inflammation. Parnell has struggled in sporadic save opportunities in the past, but he has a 2.98 ERA, 8.7 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 over the past three seasons. He could emerge as a nice late-round sleeper in mixed fantasy leagues.

Thu Jan 17 201319:57Mets avoid arbitration with Bobby Parnell
Mets and RHP Bobby Parnell avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.7 million contract.
Parnell was arbitration-eligible for the first time and did pretty well for himself. The 28-year-old righty could be next in line for saves this season for the Mets and is worth a late-round stash in mixed fantasy leagues.

Tue Dec 4 201209:01Parnell considered 'virtually untouchable'
ESPN New York's Adam Rubin was told by a major league source that the Mets consider Bobby Parnell "virtually untouchable."
The Mets discussed trade scenarios involving Parnell last winter, but they are now inclined to keep him, as he was impressive down the stretch and should slot in as the primary set-up man for Frank Francisco next season. The hard-throwing 28-year-old posted a 2.49 ERA and 61/20 K/BB ratio over 68 2/3 innings this past season and is under team control through 2015.

Wed Oct 3 201219:14Bobby Parnell notches seevnth save
Bobby Parnell recorded his seventh save with a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday against the Marlins.
Parnell did allow a hit today after going seven straight appearances without giving one up, but he held the opposition scoreless for the 11th straight outing to finish with a 2.49 ERA. If Frank Francisco is the only thing standing in between Parnell and the closer's role in New York next year, Parnell will be quite a fantasy sleeper.

Fri Sep 28 201216:19Parnell will close for Mets down the stretch
Mets manager Terry Collins confirmed Friday that Bobby Parnell will close down the stretch.
Frank Francisco (elbow) hasn't been formally shut down, but it's highly unlikely he returns at this point. Collins appeared to favor Jon Rauch to fill in at first, but the veteran right-hander has been scored upon in each of his last three outings. Meanwhile, Parnell hasn't allowed a run since September 9. Pick him up wherever available in fantasy leagues.

Thu Sep 27 201216:08Bobby Parnell records fifth save
Bobby Parnell got two outs on Thursday to pick up his first save since Aug. 1.
Jon Rauch has been doing an admirable job as the Mets' closer, but he was pulled after giving up a two-run homer in the ninth today (after he originally came in during the eighth). Parnell took over and retired both batters he faced. He'll be a definite saves sleeper next year if the Mets decide to stick with the injury-prone Frank Francisco as their primary closer.

Tue Jul 31 201202:13Bobby Parnell pulled from save chance
Bobby Parnell was pulled from a save opportunity Monday against the Giants after allowing hits to two of the three batters he faced.
Coming into an 8-6 game, Parnell immediately allowed a single to Melky Cabrera and an RBI double to Buster Posey. He retired Gregor Blanco afterwards, but manager Terry Collins opted to turn to the left-hander with Nate Schierholtz and Brandon Belt due up. Parnell's inherited run scored off Josh Edgin, so technically, the blown save went to Edgin. Still, tonight's game was just another strike against Parnell. He can't be counted on to get any additional saves.

Sat Jul 7 201220:01Parnell converts second straight save chance
Bobby Parnell slammed the door on the Cubs in the ninth inning on Saturday, picking up his second save of the season.
Parnell made good on his second straight save chance since taking over for the injured Frank Francisco. He's done a tremendous job at the back-end of the Mets bullpen this season, going 2-1 with two saves and a 2.83 ERA through his first 40 appearances.

Sun Jun 24 201217:21TC: Parnell will close if Francisco hits DL
Mets manager Terry Collins said that Bobby Parnell will close for the Mets if Frank Francisco is placed on the disabled list with a stiff left oblique.
Frank Francisco is unavailable on Sunday against the Yankees, the second game he has missed with the injury. Collins said that it will be a game time decision as to whether or not Francisco is placed on the DL. For most of the season, Parnell has outpitched Francisco in every category that matters except saves, posting a 3.30 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 30/8 K/BB rate over 30 innings. He should be grabbed in most formats immediately.

Mon Apr 2 201216:22Bobby Parnell goes three scoreless in start
Bobby Parnell started and pitched three scoreless innings Monday against the Braves.
Parnell has looked like the Mets' best reliever from day one this spring, but now he's suddenly being set up to step in as a spot starter if needed. If only they'd pick a role for him and stop jerking him around, he'd probably have established himself as more of a contributor by now.
