Fri May 20 201601:26Rockies' Reyes begins work toward return
Shortstop Jose Reyes began working out at the Rockies' spring training facility in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Thursday even though neither he nor the team knows where he will play when his suspension by Major League Baseball for violating the domestic abuse policy expires May 31.While he missed the start of the season, the Rockies' shortstop position has been filled far better than expected by rookie Trevor Story and there is no reason to believe Story will lose that job when Reyes is eligible to play.Story drove in three runs Thursday night against the Cardinals, including his 12th home run, one of his three hits that raised his average to .287.Reyes told reporters he was not worried or thinking about that yet and that he wanted to simply concentrate the next two weeks on getting himself ready to play after missing all of spring training and the first two months of the season. He also made a point of saying "I'm sorry" to the Rockies and their fans and pledged to be "a better man, a better husband"... SS Jose Reyes was suspended without pay through May 31 for violating Major League Baseball's joint domestic violence policy. With a $22 million salary this season, the suspension, which is retroactive to Feb. 23, will cause Reyes to miss 51 games and cost him a reported $6,251,366 in salary. That amount was negotiated with the players' association, as part of an agreement that he would lose pay for 52 games (the Rockies were rained out April 28, so he will miss 51 games) based on the 183 days in the season for which players are paid. Reyes is eligible to start a minor league rehab assignment June 1 that can last 20 days. Rookie Trevor Story has filled in for Reyes and been an early season surprise, hitting .266 with 11 homers and 27 RBIs. "The way I've handled it is worrying about myself and controlling what I can do," Story said. "That's worked for me so far, so I don't see myself venturing from that."

Reyes (Achilles) went 3-for-5 and scored a run in his return to the lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
After he sat out the previous four games with the injury, Reyes looked like a candidate to miss the remainder of the season, but he showed enough improvement during his on-field activity Tuesday to receive clearance to play. Reyes looked strong while stroking out three base hits on the evening, but it's possible the Rockies opt to rest him on a couple occasions in the final five games in an attempt to keep him fresh heading into the offseason.
Tue Sep 29 201518:20Jose Reyes: (Achilles) Returns Tuesday
Reyes (Achilles) is in the lineup hitting second Tuesday in Arizona, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.
He is back in the lineup after missing four straight games with the Achilles issue. Reyes may just be a big name at this stage of his career, as the production has lagged far behind his draft day price tag. It will be interesting to see if the Rockies have any success in moving on from the veteran during the offseason so that Trevor Story can get a legitimate shot in 2016.
