Sun Apr 3 201117:16Weeks homers again in loss
Rickie Weeks went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Milwaukee's loss to the Reds on Sunday.
So far, so good for Weeks as he attempts to prove his breakout 2010 was not a fluke, as he now has four extra-base hits to go along with four RBI through his first three games. As long as he can stay healthy, he should firmly establish himself in the top tier of fantasy second basemen this season.

Thu Mar 31 201117:25Brewers' Weeks homers, doubles
Rickie Weeks homered and doubled Thursday against the Reds.
Weeks and Carlos Gomez delivered back-to-back homers to start the game against Edinson Volquez, and Weeks later added a second extra-base hit. He hit .442/.500/.615 during spring training, and it sure looks like he's going to stay hot for a while.

Thu Mar 10 201119:28Weeks pulled Thursday with groin tightness
Rickie Weeks was pulled early from Thursday's spring game because of groin tightness.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke told Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the move was precautionary and that Weeks should be fine. We'll have to call the second baseman day-to-day for now.

Wed Feb 16 201116:24Brewers, Weeks finalize four-year extension
Brewers signed 2B Rickie Weeks to a four-year, $38.5 million contract extension with an option for 2015.
That option can push the total value of the deal to $50 million. Weeks, 28, posted a career-high 29 home runs, 83 RBI and 112 runs scored last season for Milwaukee while showing plus range defensively. If he can keep that kind of pace over the course of the new contract while also managing to stay healthy, the Brewers will be in great shape. He's gone through bad cases of streakiness in the past, though, and there's little doubt that the extension carries major risk.
Wed Feb 16 201114:42Weeks' deal with Brewers worth $38.5M
According to the Associated Press, the Brewers and Rickie Weeks have agreed to a four-year $38.5 million extension which includes an option for 2015 that could push the total value to $50 million.
The fifth year option would become guaranteed based on certain benchmarks, according to the Associated Press. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported earlier Wednesday that the Brewers would have the right to void the fifth year if Weeks is not an everyday player in 2013 and 2014. The deal is expected to be officially announced by the end of the day Wednesday.

Wed Feb 16 201112:39Brewers reach 5-yr, $50M extension with Weeks
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Brewers have reached a five-year, $50 million extension with Rickie Weeks.
We're still awaiting specifics, but Rosenthal adds that the Brewers can void the fifth year of the contract if Weeks is not an everyday player in 2013 and 2014. The 28-year-old Weeks is coming off career-highs in home runs (29), RBI (83) and runs scored (112), but has struggled to stay healthy in the past. It's a risk, but he could be a bargain if he stays on the field and maintains similar production.

Wed Feb 16 201112:15Report: Brewers agree to 4-yr deal with Weeks
According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Brewers have reached a tentative agreement with Rickie Weeks on a four-year contract extension.
Exact terms aren't yet available, but the contract reportedly includes an option for a fifth year. The new deal will at least cover his final year of arbitration and his first three years of free agency. The two sides have been trying to reach a deal before an arbitration hearing scheduled for Thursday. The 28-year-old second baseman batted .269/.366/.464 last season while setting career-highs with 29 homers and 83 RBI.

Tue Feb 15 201116:43Brewers, Weeks discussing long-term contract
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Brewers are discussing a contract with Rickie Weeks that would cover between three and five years.
If completed, the new deal would buy out his final year of arbitration and at least two years of free agency. The two sides are currently trying to avoid an arbitration hearing scheduled for Thursday. Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash indicated earlier today that they were making progress towards a deal.

Tue Feb 15 201112:19Brewers, Weeks still working toward extension
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Brewers are still working out a contract extension with Rickie Weeks.
"We're making progress," Brewers assistant GM Gord Ash told Rosenthal. "We're not done yet. We're inching our way." The two sides have scheduled an arbitration hearing for Thursday, February 17. If a long-term deal can't be reached by then, independent arbitrators will choose between the $7.2 million in salary that Weeks requested last month or the $4.85 million that the Brewers offered.

Fri Feb 11 201110:40Brewers, Weeks still talking multi-year deal
The Brewers are continuing to discuss a multi-year extension with second baseman Rickie Weeks.
An arbitration hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, February 17, but the Brewers are hoping that they can avoid that and potentially lock up Weeks for at least some of his free agency seasons. The 28-year-old second baseman posted a healthy .269/.366/.464 batting line with 11 stolen bases and a career-high 29 home runs in 160 games last year for Milwaukee. "We still have a little bit of time," Brewers GM Doug Melvin said Friday. "We're always optimistic we can get something done, and we're still engaged in multi-year talks."

Wed Feb 9 201122:38Brewers, Weeks set hearing for February 17
The Brewers have scheduled an arbitration hearing with Rickie Weeks on February 17.
It should be a good one. Weeks requested $7.2 million and was offered $4.85 million when arbitration figures were exchanged last month and the two sides have made little progress in their attempts to find a middle ground. The 28-year-old second baseman earned $2.75 million in 2010 while delivering a .269/.366/.464 batting line, 29 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 160 games.

Fri Feb 4 201117:33Brewers, Weeks not close to agreement
Brewers assistant GM Gord Ash said the team is not close to an agreement with arbitration-eligible Rickie Weeks.
The two sides were far apart when arbitration figures were exchanged, as Weeks requested $7.2 million and was offered $4.85 million from the Brewers. However, team negotiator Teddy Werner said last week that talks with Weeks had been "very productive" and that he was "optimistic" a deal would get done. The two sides have agreed to table long-term extension talks until a one-year pact can be worked out.

Sun Jan 30 201114:01Brewers, Weeks unlikely to work out extension
Rickie Weeks and his agent will not discuss an extension with the Brewers once spring training begins, and a multi-year agreement appears unlikely.
"Once I get to spring training, I want to focus on baseball," said Weeks. The Brewers would like to lock their second baseman up on a long-term deal, but the two sides are evidently far apart to the point that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt calls a multi-year deal before spring training a "monumental task." They're expected to work out a one-year deal to avoid arbitration, but it sounds like Weeks is likely to reach free agency after the season.

Sun Jan 30 201111:05Weeks, Marcum likely to avoid arbitration
The Brewers are optimistic they'll be able to agree to deals with both Rickie Weeks and Shaun Marcum in order to avoid arbitration.
"I'd characterize the talks as being very productive," said Brewers negotiator Teddy Werner. "I'm optimistic that we'll get something done." The team has been wanting to work out a long-term deal with Weeks, but those talks have been tabled for the time being while they focus on hammering out a one-year pact. The talks with Marcum have been exclusively about a one-year deal.

Thu Jan 27 201112:18Brewers, Weeks making progress toward deal
The Brewers are progressing toward agreement on a contract for 2011 with second baseman Rickie Weeks, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.
The two sides are going to sit down and talk at Sunday's "Brewers On Deck" event in Milwaukee and hope to come out of that meeting with a deal. Weeks requested a $7.2 million salary for 2011 and the Brewers countered at $4.85 million when arbitration figures were exchanged last Tuesday. They should be able to find a common ground before a hearing is necessary.

Tue Jan 18 201118:42Brewers, Weeks exchange figures
Rickie Weeks requested $7.2 million and was offered $4.85 million from the Brewers when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
It's quite a gap. The Brewers had seemed committed to locking up Weeks on a long-term deal, but the two sides have agreed to table the talks for now and focus on a one-year pact. They could revisit talks on an extension at some point. Weeks made $2.75 million in 2010 while putting up a .269/.366/.464 batting line with 29 home runs.

Mon Jan 17 201116:28Brewers want multi-year deal with Weeks
Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash said the club is focused on working out a multi-year contract with Rickie Weeks.
Weeks is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter, but the Brewers have been open about their desire to work out an extension. "We've never discussed a one-year deal," said Ash. "I'm not concerned about it. One way or the other, it will get resolved." The 29-year-old second baseman earned $2.75 million last season while batting .269/.366/.464 with 29 homers and 83 RBI last season. Though Weeks has struggled to stay healthy during his career, he has some pretty good leverage right now, especially after the contract Dan Uggla recently signed with the Braves.

Sat Jan 1 201114:08Roenicke intends to be aggressive on bases
New Brewers manager Ron Roenicke intends to be super aggressive on the basepaths in 2011.
Roenicke, of course was the bench coach in Anaheim for Mike Sciosica, one of the game's most aggressive managers. "At times, you're going to say, 'Why are you running so much?" Roenicke said. "Why are you getting thrown out trying to take extra bases?'... That's the style I like to play." The new approach could result in more stolen bases for guys like Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart, as well as Carlos Gomez -- if he can manage to get on base.

Tue Dec 7 201017:18Brewers and Weeks working toward extension
The Brewers had a productive meeting with Rickie Weeks' agent on Tuesday regarding a contract extension.
Weeks earned $2.75 million through the arbitration process this past season and is arbitration-eligible again this winter. The 29-year-old second baseman hit .269/.366/.464 in 2010 with 29 homers and 83 RBI, both of which were career-highs. Weeks can become a free agent next winter and Milwaukee appears motivated to ensure that doesn't happen.
