Tue Apr 26 201121:53Ross Ohlendorf to throw off mound Wednesday
Ross Ohlendorf (shoulder) will throw from the mound Wednesday for the first time since he left his April 8 start with a strained shoulder.
Ohlendorf has been throwing on flat ground for a little over a week and extended himself to 120 feet on Tuesday. He'll throw 2-3 bullpen sessions during the next week before a live batting practice session and then a rehab assignment that will last 1-2 starts. He's targeting a mid-May return. "It's feeling really good," Ohlendorf said. "It wasn't as bad as [a similar injury] last year."

Mon Apr 18 201117:28Ohlendorf expects to be out until mid-May
Ross Ohlendorf (shoulder) said Monday that he expects to be sidelined until mid-May.
Ohlendorf cautioned that "it's still too early to really know," but that's his best guess right now. The 28-year-old right-hander went on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain earlier this month, but was able to do some throwing on flat ground Sunday.

Sat Apr 9 201115:05Ross Ohlendorf placed on DL
Pirates placed RHP Ross Ohlendorf on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder posterior strain.
Ohlendorf pulled himself out of his start Friday with the injury. It's a similar ailment that prematurely ended his season last year, though he says it's not as serious this time around. A timetable for his return has not been given. Jeff Karstens is expected to take his spot in the rotation, while Daniel McCutchen was recalled from Triple-A.

Sat Apr 9 201110:27Ross Ohlendorf says this injury not as bad
Ross Ohlendorf said the shoulder injury he felt Friday isn't as bad as the one that sidelined him for the final five weeks of the season last year.
He admitted, though, that the injury was in the same place. "We're not sure yet what it is," Ohlendorf said. "We're going to see how it is the next couple of days." It would be surprising if the right-hander doesn't land on the disabled list. He would likely be replaced in the rotation by Jeff Karstens.

Fri Apr 8 201119:55Ross Ohlendorf leaves with shoulder injury
Ross Ohlendorf left Friday's start in the third inning with a shoulder injury.
Ohlendorf looked uncomfortable on back-to-back curveballs and pulled himself out of the game after throwing the second one. He missed the last six weeks of last season with a strained muscle in the back of his shoulder, so this could be an aggravation of that injury. Jeff Karstens replaced Ohlendorf Friday and would be the likely candidate to replaced him in the rotation if the right-hander needs to miss time, which seems likely.

Sun Apr 3 201118:19Ohlendorf earns no-decision in win
Ross Ohlendorf allowed four runs on eight hits and four walks on Sunday afternoon, picking up a no-decision in Pittsburgh's 5-4 win over the Cubs.
He notched three strikeouts. Coming off a hard-luck 2010, Ohlendorf isn't as bad as his numbers last year would indicate, but he's still someone that only needs to be monitored in deeper NL-only leagues.

Tue Mar 29 201123:13Ohlendorf knocked around by Phillies
Ross Ohlendorf was knocked around for six runs -- four earned -- on seven hits over four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies.
Ohlendorf, who went 1-11 last season, went 0-5 with a 9.82 ERA this spring. Ouch. While the 28-year-old right-hander was notoriously unlucky in 2010, but he can safely be ignored in most fantasy formats.

Thu Mar 24 201122:19Ohlendorf torched for six runs against O's
Ross Ohlendorf was torched for six runs -- five earned -- over 4 2/3 innings Thursday against the Orioles.
Ohlendorf allowed three home runs and two walks in the rough late-spring outing. Win-loss records mean very little for pitchers, but the right-hander finished 1-11 last season and is now 0-4 in Grapefruit League play. He is simply not a relevant fantasy starter.

Thu Mar 17 201117:24Ross Ohlendorf blasted by O's
Ross Ohlendorf was blasted for six runs on eight hits over three innings Thursday against the Orioles.
He struck out two and didn't walk anyone, which is the only relatively nice thing we can say about this performance. Ohlendorf was unlucky to go 1-11 last season given his 4.07 ERA, but he hasn't inspired any confidence with a 10.24 ERA this spring. His rotation spot is safe, though.

Ross Ohlendorf won his arbitration case against the Pirates and will earn a $2.025 million salary this season.
We should have known the Pirates would lose this one. Ohlendorf, a Princeton grad, became arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter as a "Super Two." The 28-year-old right-hander had a lousy 1-11 record last season, but finished with a very respectable 4.07 ERA over 21 starts. He has a 3.98 ERA over the past two seasons.

Ohlendorf filed for $2.025 million and was offered $1.4 million from the Pirates when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. The Pirates will likely try to use his injuries and lopsided 1-11 record from last season against him, but Ohlendorf actually had a very respectable 4.07 ERA over 21 starts. A three-person panel of arbitrators is expected to render a decision on Wednesday.

Sun Jan 30 201110:53Ohlendorf says shoulder no longer a problem
Ross Ohlendorf says the shoulder injury that prematurely ended his 2010 season is no longer an issue.
"I am fully recovered and feeling great," Ohlendorf said. "My throwing, right now, is significantly better than it was a year ago at this time. I didn't have a very good spring training [last year] and I feel like I will be much stronger out of the gate [this season]." Ohlendorf got off to a slow start this past season, winding up with an undeserved 1-11 record but a respectable 4.07 ERA. He pitched very well in the final two months before his injury and could be an underrated option in NL-only formats.

Ross Ohlendorf requested $2.025 million and was offered $1.4 million from the Pirates when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
Ohlendorf is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, so he'll see a nice raise either way, but we think they'll be able to settle somewhere around the $1.71 million midpoint. The 28-year-old right-hander went 1-11 with a 4.07 ERA over 21 starts in 2010, a season that was bookended by injuries.

Mon Sep 27 201018:47Ohlendorf may pitch in Instructional League
Ross Ohlendorf (shoulder) might pitch in the Fall Instructional League as part of his offseason throwing routine.
Ohlendorf has been sidelined since August 23 due to a strained muscle behind his right shoulder. He's fully expected to be ready for spring training next season, but a couple positive outings in the Instructional League should boost his confidence going into the offseason.

Sun Sep 19 201021:23Ohlendorf throws from flat ground
Ross Ohlendorf threw from threw 25 pitches on flat ground from a distance of 60 feet on Friday and felt good enough to continue rehabbing his shoulder.
He is still out for the season since he is on the 60-Day disabled list, but it's nice to know that he's already looking forward to next year. He expects to begin throwing at least every other day and gradually extend the distance. Ohlendorf seemingly pitched to his true talent level this year, making him a decent back-end starter in deeper leagues, but there's not a ton of projection left in the 28-year-old.
Fri Sep 17 201011:25Ohlendorf (shoulder) to throw off flat ground
Ross Ohlendorf (shoulder) is scheduled to throw off flat ground Friday.
Ohlendorf has been limited to exercises and work with a physical therapist since being placed on the disabled list with strained muscle behind his right shoulder last month. While he is done for the season, he is expected to progress to a throwing program over the final 2 1/2 weeks of the season. It hasn't yet been decided whether he will continue throwing during the offseason or be shut down until 2011.
