Tue Aug 31 201012:34Ohlendorf unlikely to return this season
Ross Ohlendorf (shoulder) is unlikely to return this year.
Ohlendorf is making decent progress in his recovery from a lat strain, but he won't be able to do a minor league rehab assignment because the affiliate seasons are about to end. The Pirates don't want to throw him back into major league action without a warmup. He can try again in 2011.

Wed Aug 25 201014:55Pirates place Ohlendorf (shoulder) on the DL
Pirates placed RHP Ross Ohlendorf on the 15-day disabled list with a strained muscle in his shoulder.
Although the injury is to his shoulder, it's to a muscle in the back of his shoulder and is not a labrum or cuff problem. This counts as good news. Ohlendorf may or may not be back this year, but since he was pitching to his potential for the most part, and still had an ERA over four, he's not a great fantasy pitcher.
Tue Aug 24 201014:50Strained shoulder for RHP Ohlendorf
Ross Ohlendorf's MRI revealed a strain to the latissimus dorsi/teres major muscles in the back of his shoulder, but he will avoid surgery most likely.
Because the Pirates are no longer in contention and the team can control Ohlendorf for a little while still, there's still a possibility that his season is over. On the other hand, this is relatively good news and a more detailed prognosis is on the way. Ohlendorf is pitching to results that fit his underlying statistics for the most part, and if he could get the ball on the ground more he might be an interesting pitcher.

Mon Aug 23 201020:17Ohlendorf has tightness in shoulder
Ross Ohlendorf was diagnosed with tightness and soreness in the back of his right shoulder.
Ohlendorf left Monday's start against the Cardinals after throwing just eight pitches. He was responsible for two runs in the opening frame while failing to record an out. We're not sure about his status moving forward, but don't be surprised to see him land on the disabled list.

Ross Ohlendorf left Monday's game against the Cardinals in the first inning due to an apparent shoulder injury.
Ohlendorf left after facing only two batters. Insult to injury, Sean Gallagher replaced him and quickly gave up a three-run bomb to Albert Pujols. We'll have an update on his status when it is made available.

Wed Aug 18 201022:13Ohlendorf goes eight innings in loss
Ross Ohlendorf tied a career high with eight innings pitched on Wednesday night, but still took his 10th loss of the season against the Marlins.
Ohlendorf gave up three earned runs on four hits while striking out five and walking two. Unfortunately for him, he plays for the Pirates and he was up against Josh Johnson. Ohlendorf has a solid 3.90 ERA in 20 starts this season, but remarkably has just one win to show for it. NL-only leaguers can do better.

Mon Aug 2 201022:06Ohlendorf labors through five innings
Ross Ohlendorf labored through five innings Monday, allowing three runs in the loss to the Reds.
He gave up four hits, walked four and hit a batter, needing 104 pitches to get through the five frames. This was Ohlendorf's first start since he had to leave his last outing after being hit in the face by a line drive. He's now 1-9 on the year but has a respectable 4.41 ERA. The righty will face the Rockies at home on Saturday.
Thu Jul 29 201012:47Ohlendorf remains on track to start Monday
Ross Ohlendorf, who was hit in the face by a comebacker during Wednesday's game, remains scheduled to start next Monday.
"We just need to keep a close eye on Ross," said Pirates manager John Russell. "But it's looked good so far." The Pirates could pull him from the start if he begins to show any concussion-like symptoms in the next 24 hours.

Wed Jul 28 201022:58Ohlendorf fine after taking liner off of head
Ross Ohlendorf is fine after taking a Troy Tulowitzki liner off of his head in Wednesday's game.
Ohlendorf had a CT-Scan that was negative. He has a abrasion and contusion to right side of his head, and it's sort of amazing that he's doing so well after the scary scene in Wednesday's game at Coors Field. He's back with the team and seems fine for now.

Wed Jul 28 201022:09Ross Ohlendorf (head) taken to local hospital
Ross Ohelndorf (head) has been taken to a local hospital.
The Pirates starter was nailed in the head by a Troy Tulowitzki line drive during Wednesday's game. It was a scary scene and Ohlendorf almost certainly suffered a concussion. He could need a DL stint.

Wed Jul 28 201021:00Ohlendorf takes liner off of his head
Ross Ohlendorf took a liner from Troy Tulowitzki off of the head in Wednesday's game.
Tulowitzki, and the crowd, was pretty upset and the Rockies shortstop paced around first base as the trainer tended to and then led Ohlendorf off the field. It's good news that the pitcher stayed standing and could walk off the field, and we'll update this piece as soon as more news is available.

Fri Jul 2 201022:21Ohlendorf owns the Phillies
Ross Ohlendorf took advantage of a depleted Phillies lineup to pitch seven innings of shutout ball on Friday night.
It's strange to say, but pitchers are getting healthy against the Phillies right now. It's Ohlendorf's first win of the season against a Phils team that was without Chase Utley, Placido Polanco and Carlos Ruiz. Shane Victorino also did not start the game for simple rest. Don't get tricked into thinking you should add Ohlendorf.
Tue Jun 22 201023:00Ohlendorf handed loss by Rangers
Ross Ohlendorf dropped to 0-6 on the year after giving up four runs over 4 2/3 innings against the Rangers on Tuesday night.
He held the Rangers off the board through the first three innings, but gave up a solo home run to Michael Young in the fourth inning and a three-run blast to Julio Borbon in the fifth. Ohlendorf is now winless over his last 15 starts dating back to last August. He'll look to break that streak with another interleague outing against the Athletics this weekend.
Mon May 31 201016:34Pirates' Ohlendorf strong in no-decision
Ross Ohlendorf yielded one run and three hits in seven innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Cubs.
Ohlendorf, who struck out six, deserved his first win of the season today, but the Pirates couldn't push across their second run until the bottom of the eighth. As a result, Ohlendorf remains 0-3 with a 4.26 ERA in six starts.
Fri May 21 201021:56Ohlendorf shelled by the Braves
Ross Ohlendorf lasted just 3 2/3 innings against the Braves on Friday night, yielding six earned runs on seven hits and three walks.
Ohlendorf has now walked at least three batters in each of his four starts this season. That's a recipe for disaster when you're susceptible to the long ball as Ohlendorf is. He'll get the Reds next and isn't a recommended play, even in NL-only formats.
Mon May 10 201021:58Ohlendorf lasts four frames vs. Reds
Ross Ohlendorf dropped to 0-1 after allowing one run over four innings in his first start back from the disabled list against the Reds on Monday.
Ohlendorf was a bit rusty, throwing 47 of 84 pitches for strikes and walking four. We'll give him a pass for this outing, but he's a stretch as a fantasy option anyway, even in NL-only leagues. He'll toe the rubber against the Cubs this weekend.
Mon May 10 201015:54Pirates activate Ohlendorf from 15-day DL
Pirates activated RHP Ross Ohlendorf from the 15-day disabled list.
Ohlendorf is scheduled to take the mound on Monday night against the Reds. He's been out of commission since April 12 with back spasms, but has a few rehab starts under his belt and should do fine. The right-hander left behind a 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 1/3 K/BB ratio through one start.
Thu May 6 201017:30Ohlendorf set to return to Pirates on Monday
Ross Ohlendorf (back) is scheduled to return from the disabled list and start on Monday against the Reds.
Bucs manager John Russell confirmed the good news Thursday, a day after Ohlendorf completed a four-inning scoreless rehab start at Double-A Altoona. The right-hander made just one start before hitting the disabled list and currently holds a 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 1/3 K/BB ratio through 5 innings.

Wed May 5 201023:10Ohlendorf throws four scoreless in AA start
Ross Ohlendorf (back) tossed four scoreless innings Wednesday in a rehab start for Double-A Altoona.
Ohlendorf is likely to rejoin the Pirates and start on May 10 as the Reds kick off a series with the Reds. He's been on the disabled list since April 12 with a back issue, at first identified as spasms. The right-hander made just one start before the injury and left behind a 3.60 ERA and 1.40 WHIP.
