Thu May 2 201321:53Dan Haren goes eight innings for victory
Dan Haren limited the Braves to one run and four hits over eight innings to win on Thursday night.
A Dan Uggla homer was the only damage as Haren outdueled Kris Medlen in the 3-1 game. Haren has allowed six runs in 19 innings over his last three starts after giving up 16 runs -- 12 earned -- in 13 1/3 innings in his first three.

Sat Apr 27 201316:33Haren delivers best start of season vs. Reds
Dan Haren delivered his best start of the season Saturday, allowing two runs in six innings in a 6-3 win over the Reds.
A nice step forward for Haren, who had failed to pitch more than five innings in his previous four starts. He gave up six hits (including a home run) while striking out five and walking none. Haren owes an assist to Denard Span, who robbed Joey Votto of extra bases with a leaping catch at the wall in the sixth inning. While it was an encouraging outing, we wouldn't trust him in fantasy leagues with a matchup against the homer-happy Braves next week.

Mon Apr 22 201322:20Dan Haren gives up three runs to Cards
Dan Haren lost to the Cardinals after allowing three runs in five innings on Monday night.
Haren has yet to deliver a quality start in four trips to the mound. At least in his first three starts, he had a 12/1 K/BB ratio. Tonight, he struck out three, walked three and hit a batter. A quick turnaround hardly appears likely.

Tue Apr 16 201322:04Haren rocked again as Nationals fall to Miami
Dan Haren allowed seven runs -- three earned -- in 4 1/3 innings Tuesday as the Nationals fell to the Marlins.
Haren didn't get much help from his defense but also looked far too hittable. The 32-year-old right-hander is now sporting a hideous 8.13 ERA, 2.03 WHIP and 12/1 K/BB ratio over his first 13 1/3 innings with the Nationals. Bench him for now in fantasy leagues.

Thu Apr 11 201322:46Dan Haren strikes out five in victory
Dan Haren won Thursday despite allowing three runs and 10 hits in five innings against the White Sox.
At least Haren didn't give up any homers tonight. He got some help there from a nice breeze blowing in from center. He ended up striking out five and walking none. He's not the Dan Haren of old, but given that he's on such a good team and his tiny walk rate will result in a solid WHIP, no one should be thinking of dropping him in mixed leagues.

Fri Apr 5 201322:29Haren rocked for six runs in loss to Reds
Dan Haren was smoked for six runs on four home runs over four innings in a loss to the Reds on Friday night.
Haren's spring training struggles have now crossed over to the regular season. While the veteran right-hander has always given up his fair share of fly balls -- a poor fit in Great American Ball Park -- he appeared way too hittable in this one. It's going to be tough to trust him in standard mixed leagues until he proves that he's healthy.

Tue Mar 26 201316:11Dan Haren gives up four homers
Dan Haren was tagged for four homers and five runs in six innings by the Marlins on Tuesday.
It's understandable that Haren gave up a pair of homers to Giancarlo Stanton. The shots from Chris Valaika and Chris Coghlan were less forgivable. Haren showed better velocity at the beginning of the spring than he has lately. With the way he's throwing now, there's a good chance he'll struggle in the early going.

Fri Mar 22 201300:09Dan Haren gives up four runs in loss
Dan Haren surrendered four runs in 5 1/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Braves.
Although the results didn't show it, Haren said his he felt much better tonight than he did in his loss last Friday to the Cardinals. According to CSN Washington's Mark Zuckerman, Haren regularly worked at 89 mph tonight and touched 91 mph. It's still not ideal, but it's an improvement over last time out.

Fri Mar 15 201315:46Dan Haren gives up five runs to Cards
Dan Haren gave up five runs in five innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Haren didn't have much on his fastball today, and he said afterwards that he felt achy. Perhaps he's going through his dead-arm phase. Haren didn't seem very concerned afterwards, so we won't be either, unless he fails to bounce back next time out.

Sun Mar 10 201315:55Dan Haren gives up two runs in loss
Dan Haren was charged with two runs on five hits in four innings Sunday in a loss to the Tigers.
Haren was better than the line suggests; he didn't get much help from his defense in this one. He's had an encouraging spring, and it looks like the Nationals may have gotten a modest bargain when they signed him to a one-year, $13 million contract.

Fri Feb 15 201318:04Dan Haren impresses in first side session
According to Nationals manager Davey Johnson, Dan Haren looked impressive during his first side session as a member of the Nationals on Friday.
Johnson noted that his stuff looked "really good" and that he had good command. Catcher Jhonatan Solano also gave him rave reviews, noting his ability to command the cutter while getting impressive movement on the pitch. Haren is coming off a highly disappointing and injury-riddled 2012 campaign, but could be poised for a big bounce-back effort in 2013.

Fri Dec 7 201215:06Haren passes physical, Nats deal is official
Nationals signed RHP Dan Haren to a one-year, $13 million contract.
Haren passed his physical Friday -- which was no slam dunk -- to make the deal official. The veteran right-hander has dealt with back and hip issues and declining velocity over the last few years, but he's a nice gamble for the Nats on a one-year deal. He'll slot in behind Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez and Jordan Zimmermann and ahead of Ross Detwiler in the Nats' formidable rotation.

Fri Nov 30 201212:34Angels check in on Dan Haren
Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com hears that the Angels recently checked in on Dan Haren.
However, he notes that "nothing's changed from a negotiating standpoint," and, thus, Haren is not expected to return to the Angels. Gonzalez adds that Haren has received lots of interest from East Coast clubs. With the physical concerns, the best Haren can hope for is probably a two-year deal.

Mon Nov 26 201213:13Olney: Dan Haren dealing with hip injury
According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the physical concern teams have with Dan Haren is not a bad back, but rather a bad hip.
Haren missed three weeks of action this season with what the Angels called a back injury, so that's naturally what most assumed might turn potentially interested suitors off. But, it's apparently his hip that's the issue and perhaps the reason why a trade from the Angels to the Cubs earlier this month fell through. As Olney notes, Haren is "very respected" and "will get a chance" from someone, but he'll probably have to settle for a one- or two-year deal.

Fri Nov 23 201222:22Padres showing interest in Haren, Marcum
According to Bill Center, the Padres remain interested in signing Dan Haren, but "it's going to be a wait and see game."
Haren has a good working relationship with GM Josh Byrnes from their time together with the Diamondbacks. Most teams seem reluctant to give him more than a one-year contract due to health concerns. Center also added that Shawn Marcum is the Padres' secondary pitching target if they are unable to land Haren.

Sun Nov 18 201210:12Dan Haren to only get 1-2 years?
"Most executives" that Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe has spoken to would be unwilling to sign Dan Haren for more than two years due to his back issues.
They would prefer to give Haren just one year with a club option for a second season. "I would guess the free agent player who is having his medical records gone through with a fine-tooth comb more than anyone out there is Haren," said an American League executive. Haren insists that he's healthy despite rumors that a trade sending him to the Cubs reportedly was nixed over medical concerns. The righty missed three weeks of action this season due to back problems.

Sat Nov 10 201212:50Padres considered favorite to land Haren
A rival executive told Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal that he expects Dan Haren to sign with the Padres.
Rosenthal notes that GM Josh Byrnes traded for Haren during his previous tenure with the Diamondbacks, and adds that staying on the West Coast is important to Haren. It's not yet known what type of contract he'd be looking for, but a one-year "prove it" deal could make sense for both sides. Byrnes named Haren among the "eight to ten" pitchers the Padres are targeting this winter at his season-ending press conference.

Thu Nov 8 201216:49Haren disputes report about nixed trade
According to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, Dan Haren took issue with a report that the Cubs nixed a trade with the Angels last week due to medical issues.
"It's definitely a little frustrating to hear, being as I've started all but three games over a nine-year career," Haren said via email. "I haven't heard why exactly they pulled out, but I finished the year healthy and did pretty well down the stretch." Haren posted a 4.33 ERA in 30 starts with the Angels this season while dealing with a back issue and showing diminished velocity. David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com reports that the Cubs were concerned about both his back and his hip. Some teams may shy away this winter after the deal fizzled and the Angels declined his option, but the free agent right-hander insists that he is not a health risk.

Sun Nov 4 201221:30Padres express interest in Dan Haren
Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes that the Padres could be a fit for Dan Haren this offseason.
The Angels declined Haren's $15.5 million option for 2013, making him a free agent. While he figures to garner plenty of interest on the open market, playing in San Diego would be an ideal landing spot for a one-year, "prove it" deal to reestablish his value. General manager Josh Byrnes recently named Haren among the "eight to 10" pitchers the Padres are targeting this winter.
