He spent his first eight seasons with the Texas Rangers.Chicago also activated second baseman Yoan Moncada (shin) from the 10-day disabled list and purchased the contract of left-hander Jace Fry from Double-A Birmingham.Moncada, 22, is batting .188 in 30 games for the White Sox. The rookie is one of Chicago's top prospects.Fry, 24, was 2-1 with a 2.78 ERA in 33 relief appearances at Birmingham. He hasn't appeared in a major league game.

LHP Derek Holland (7-14, 6.20 ERA) will move from the starting rotation to the bullpen, manager Rick Renteria said. It is possible that Holland has made his last start for the White Sox, who signed him to a one-year deal during the offseason in hopes that he would provide a boost.
