Torreyes was acquired by the Blue Jays on Friday in exchange for cash or a player to be named later, is out of the lineup for Friday's game in Baltimore, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.
Torreyes was designated for assignment by Houston last week, but the Blue Jays deemed the 22-year-old worthy of a spot on the 40-man roster. Torreyes will likely report to Triple-A Buffalo, as his bat clearly isn't big-league ready. He doesn't hit for power or steals many bases, and he probably won't have an impact for the Jays this season.

Torreyes was designated for assignment Thursday.
The Astros needed a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Preston Tucker, who was selected from Triple-A Fresno on Thursday. While he rarely strikes out, Torreyes has very little long-term upside, as he doesn't hit for power or steal many bases. He owns a .200/.211/.214 slash line through 72 plate appearances for Triple-A Fresno this season, after posting a .298/.345/.376 line at the same level last year. Despite the limited skill set, he won't necessarily make it through waivers unclaimed, as he's only 22 years old

Torreyes was optioned to minor league camp by the Astros on Monday.
He'll likely return to the Triple-A affiliate with the hope of earning a callup if the Astros' depth at the big league level gets thinned out by injuries.

Torreyes spent his entire 2014 campaign with Triple-A Oklahoma City, slashing an impressive .298/.345/.376 and just 26 strikeouts in 126 games. The 22-year-old could work his way on to the major league roster in 2015.

Astros acquired INF Ronald Torreyes from the Cubs for cash considerations.
The deal provides the Cubs with two additional international bonus pool slots valued at a total of $784,700. Torreyes, who was acquired from the Reds back in 2011 in the Sean Marshall deal, was batting .260/.337/.381 with two home runs, 25 RBI, and four stolen bases in 64 games this season in Double-A.

Fri Dec 23 201112:39Ronald Torreyes picked up by Cubs
Cubs acquired INF Ronald Torreyes from the Reds in the Sean Marshall trade.
Torreyes turned just 19 in September but has batted .364/.419/.517 in the lower levels of the Reds system. He's played a variety of positions on the field but has yet to find a home. However, given his production with the bat, he is an interesting long-term prospect.
