Sun Apr 3 201111:52Jason Isringhausen tweaks back
Jason Isringhausen cut a scheduled two-inning outing in extended spring training Saturday an inning short after feeling a twinge in his back.
The good news is that he appears to be over his previous elbow issue, but the back injury probably means he'll be shut down for a few days. It's not a significant long-term setback, but since he has to either be called up or released soon, it's certainly notable.

Wed Mar 30 201111:09Izzy to stay in extended spring training
Jason Isringhausen has agreed to stay in extended spring training for two weeks.
The Mets were impressed with Izzy this spring, even with his recent elbow issue, but they are trying to keep as many arms as possible. Though, if some team comes calling in the next two weeks, the Mets will have to either call him up to the majors or let him go.

Mon Mar 28 201123:44Mets want Isringhasen to stay in PSL
David Waldstein of the New York Times reports that the Mets have asked Jason Isringhausen to remain in Florida for extended spring training.
The Mets have been impressed with Isringhausen this spring, but want him to remain in Florida for a week or two in order to increase his arm strength and prove that his elbow is healthy. Izzy is said to be considering the idea. The Mets are trying to keep as many arms as possible, so they are also trying to convince Blaine Boyer to accept a minor league assignment, presumably so they won't have to expose Manny Acosta to waivers.

Sun Mar 27 201116:12Izzy throws perfect inning for Mets
Back from a sore elbow, Jason Isringhausen worked a perfect seventh inning Sunday versus the Cardinals.
Izzy reiterated last week that he wouldn't be willing to accept a minor league assignment, but it's possible he could remain behind in extended spring training for a week or two if he isn't quite ready to assume a spot in the Mets bullpen. He's been effective while on the mound this spring, allowing one run in seven innings.

Sun Mar 27 201108:41Jason Isringhausen will pitch Sunday
Jason Isringhausen (elbow) is slated to appear in Sunday's game.
It will be his first official game action since he was shut down with elbow inflammation nearly a week ago. He did appear in a minor league game Friday and got knocked around, so it will be important for him to pitch well Sunday. Izzy has a roster spot pretty much sewn up if he can show he's healthy.

Fri Mar 25 201109:51Izzy allows four runs in short minors outing
Jason Isringhausen (elbow) allowed four runs over 1 2/3 innings Friday in a minor league game.
Only one of those runs was counted as earned, but it's not like Izzy looked sharp. He has been dealing with elbow inflammation for a couple of days now and may be fighting through the discomfort still. He was nearly guaranteed a spot on the major league roster earlier this week, but he's on shaky ground right now.

Wed Mar 23 201109:17Isringhausen (elbow) to pitch in minors game
Jason Isringhausen (elbow) is expected to pitch in a minor league game Friday.
Izzy dealt with some elbow inflammation earlier this week, but said he felt fine after throwing a bullpen session Wednesday morning. The Mets were talking about using the veteran right-hander as their primary set-up man for Francisco Rodriguez the other day, so if he can stay healthy, he should make the team.

Mon Mar 21 201110:05Izzy out Monday due to elbow inflammation
Jason Isringhausen was held out of workouts Monday due to right elbow inflammation.
Isringhausen has beaten the odds and pitched his way into a big league bullpen job this spring in Mets camp. The right-hander is hoping that this recent bout with elbow soreness will be over shortly. He has been prescribed anti-inflammatory medication.

Sun Mar 20 201110:52Izzy could set up for Mets
Not only does he seem virtually assured of making the team, but Jason Isringhausen could be used as the primary setup man to Francisco Rodriguez.
"We've actually talked about [Isringhausen] being that to start the season, to see if he is an eighth-inning guy, and let Bobby [Parnell] move his way into it a little bit," pitching coach Dan Warthen said. Izzy has given up just one run in six appearances this spring, his fastball is coming in in the low 90s, and, perhaps most importantly, he's shown he's capable of pitching on back-to-back days. Though he's still a huge health risk, we think he'll be productive if he can stay off the DL.

Fri Mar 4 201105:50Isringhausen retiring if he doesn't make team
Jason Isringhausen said that he will retire if he fails to make the Mets roster out of spring training.
"If I don't make it, then there's a reason I didn't make it and that will be good enough reason for me to go home," Isringhausen said. The Mets have been high on Izzy so far, so his acknowledgement could be moot if he remains healthy. On Thursday he gave up one walk in a hitless fifth inning against his former team, the Cardinals.

Sat Feb 26 201109:58Mets continue to rave about Izzy
Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen said if Jason Isringhausen can continue to throw the ball as well as he has thus far, he could be a "major part" of the team.
"I've seen a lot more than I expected at any time," Warthen said. "The ball is coming out of his hand great. He still has the Izzy curveball, and he's added a nice little cutter and changeup. I couldn't be more pleased... It makes me think a lot. If Izzy can come in and continue to do exactly what he's doing right now, he is a major part of this." The 38-year-old could be a viable setup man for K-Rod if he can manage to stay healthy. That's a major "if," though, given that he's appeared in just nine major league games the last two seasons due to injury.

Tue Feb 22 201105:50Isringhausen impressing Mets early
Jason Isringhausen has been impressive so far in camp, with indications that the Mets privately are excited about how he could help the bullpen.
"The only question," said one team official, "is if he can stay healthy." Out of baseball for 18 months, Isringhausen hopes he has fully recovered from his third Tommy John surgery. He thinks he can get his velocity back above 90 MPH; if so, and assuming there are no setbacks, he could make his mark ass a valuable middle reliever or set-up man.

Tue Feb 15 201120:57Mets sign Jason Isringhausen to minors deal
Mets signed RHP Jason Isringhausen to a minor league contract.
Isringhausen is back where it all began. He'll get an invite to major league camp, where he'll attempt to win a spot out of the bullpen. The 38-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched in a major league game since the 2009 season as a member of the Rays.

Tue Feb 15 201110:58Izzy getting tryout Tuesday with Mets
Jason Isringhausen is in Mets camp Tuesday for a tryout.
Izzy knows the members of the Mets' front office very well from his days with Oakland. If he looks good, perhaps they'll over him a spot in minor league camp or maybe even a non-guaranteed minor league contract. The 38-year-old hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2009.

Mon Jan 31 201117:18Reds not sure about signing Isringhausen
Jason Isringhausen threw for the Reds on Monday, but general manager Walt Jocketty hasn't decided whether the club will sign him to a minor league contract.
"[Price] said he threw good," said Jocketty. "It went kind of like it did last year. We're not sure if we will pursue it or not. We'll discuss it in the next few days. We have quite a bit of right-handed pitching." Isringhausen, now 38, attempted a comeback with the Reds last season, but was shut down after suffering a setback with his surgically-repaired elbow. The odds are against him making an impact with the big club.

Sat Jan 29 201111:53Isringhausen will throw for Reds Monday
Jason Isringhausen will have a throwing session for the Reds Monday in Arizona.
They'll decide after the session whether or not to sign him. Isringhausen attempted a comeback with the Reds in the second half last season but was shut down with elbow problems before making it up to the big club. Even if signed, Izzy would be a longshot to make the opening day roster.

Isringhausen was attempting to make a comeback from Tommy John surgery but suffered a setback. He'll turn 38 in early September, and you've got to think this might be it for him.

Mon Aug 16 201020:07Izzy (elbow) placed on minor league DL
Jason Isringhausen was placed on the minor league disabled list with Triple-A Louisville due to a strained right elbow.
Shocking. Isringhausen, who was signed to a minor league deal by the Reds last month, allowed seven runs -- six earned -- and walked seven over 5 2/3 innings for Louisville. With a history of elbow problems, this could be the end of the road for him.

Reds signed RHP Jason Isringhausen to a minor league contract.
The Reds offered Isringhausen a contract after watching him throw on Tuesday. He'll report to Triple-A Louisville. Izzy last pitched in the majors in June of 2009 with the Rays before undergoing Tommy John surgery. He's a longshot to contribute on the big league level.
