With that, he's officially on the road to recovery, but Wright will need to progress to throwing off a mound and then complete a rehab assignment before he'll be ready to return and bolster the Orioles' bullpen.

After going on the 15-day DL August 1, it appears as if the righty could be on pace to return to the roster in the minimum amount of time required. Wright, in his three stints with the Orioles this year, has primarily worked as a spot starter or long reliever, but with the club's rotation pretty well set, he'll likely rejoin the bullpen when healthy.

Wright was placed on the 15-day DL on Saturday with a left calf strain.

The injury, which forced Wright off the hill after one inning Friday, was initially labeled a cramp. Jorge Rondon was called up in a corresponding move and will provide length out of the Orioles' bullpen for the time being.

Called upon to relieve Wei-Yin Chen, who only lasted 3.1 innings, Wright worked a scoreless frame against Detroit before exiting with the injury. It's uncertain if Wright will miss additional time, but regardless, he can be crossed off the list of potential fill-in candidates for Monday if Chris Tillman (ankle) is forced to miss his scheduled start.

Wright was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

The 25-year-old will return for his third stint with the major league club this season. Wright has worked exclusively as a starter with Baltimore so far and could get another opportunity to start if Chris Tillman (ankle) is unable to go Monday. Otherwise, he will likely provide length out of the bullpen.

The Orioles made a number of roster moves Saturday to clear room for Kevin Gausman as he returns from the disabled list. Wright has taken three consecutive losses after allowing just three earned runs in his first three starts.

Wright allowed four runs on three hits, walking four and striking out one while retiring only four hitters in a 5-4 loss to Toronto on Friday night.

Wright (2-3, 5.16 ERA) was dazzling in his first couple of starts, but the wheels have come off in a big way lately. Over his last three starts, he has allowed 14 runs, and hasn't made it through five innings in any of them. Kevin Gausman is scheduled to rejoin the rotation this weekend, and Miguel Gonzalez is nearing a return, so Wright's spot in the rotation could be in serious jeopardy.

Wright has now made five starts for the Orioles and he seems to be getting worse in each turn. He pitched 7.1 and seven shutout innings in his first two starts, but has allowed five runs in each of his last two starts while failing to make it beyond five innings. Perhaps advance scouting is starting to catch up to him. Wright might not have much time left in the rotation, depending on when Miguel Gonzalez is healthy enough to return and when Kevin Gausman is ready to take a rotation spot.

It is a testament to how good Wright had been prior to Tuesday's game that his ERA still sits below 3.00 (2.96) on the season. However, there was no doubt that Wright had been pitching over his head, so it only makes sense that his numbers were due for some correction. It is unclear how long Wright will be able to stick in the Orioles' rotation, but with Bud Norris possibly slotting into the rotation Sunday, Wright could soon find himself on the outside looking in.

Wright (2-0) gave up three runs on six hits over five innings against the White Sox, but picked up the win in the second half of Thursday's doubleheader.

Wright wasn't nearly as impressive in this one as he had been in his first two outings, as he was tagged for homers by Adam Eaton and Adam LaRoche to give up his first runs of the season. However, he didn't walk anyone for the second time in his three starts and appears to be establishing himself as a reliable member of the Baltimore rotation.

Wright went seven scoreless innings Saturday, allowing just three hits and three walks in a 1-0 extra-inning loss to the Marlins.

Two starts into his career as a big-league starter, Wright's got a pair of seven-inning scoreless outings, and he's only allowed seven hits in that span while posting a 10:3 K:BB. He's well on his way toward earning a permanent rotation spot, and will look to continue that quest Thursday against the White Sox.

Wright has been great in six stats with Triple-A Norfolk this season, allowing six runs over 30.2 innings while striking out 30. He'll face a tough test in his first major-league start, squaring off against a solid Angels lineup.

Wright will begin the season in the minors, but he'll almost certainly return to the major leagues at some point in 2015. Manager Buck Showalter said he was satisfied with what Wright showed during spring training. "He's presented himself as a viable option for us in two different roles," Showalter said. "He continues to make strides. He's impressive. Kind of followed where he was when [last] season ended. We know what his last two or three starts were like at the end of the year."

Wright could be the first starter called up from Triple-A when the Orioles need another starter, depending on whether the team uses a current starter in long relief, MASN Sports reports.

If Kevin Gausman, Ubaldo Jimenez, or Miguel Gonzalez becomes the long relief man, Wright could be next on the depth chart. There is a legitimate opportunity this could happen. Wright made 26 starts at Triple-A in 2014, where the 25-year-old had a 4.61 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. The Orioles are short on starting pitching depth, so Wright is in the mix despite his mediocre numbers. T.J. McFarland should also be a possibility as a deep starting option.
