Wed Jul 28 202100:22Giants Talking To Cubs About Kris Bryant, Joey Bart
The San Francisco Giants have talked with the Chicago Cubs about a potential trade for third baseman/outfielder Kris Bryant, sources told MLB.com's Jon Morosi on Tuesday. Per Morosi, the Cubs have expressed interest in the Giants' number 2 catching prospect Joey Bart. However, it sounds as though the Giants would want more than just Bryant for Bart, who is slashing .310/.372/.532 with nine home runs in 44 games for Triple-A Sacramento. Further, that Athletic's Andrew Baggarly reported that he Giants are backing off any trade proposal with the Cubs in which they insist on Bart. Bryant would provide pop and defensive versatility to the Giants, as he is slashing .269/.356/.500 with 18 HR and 51 RBI. However, he will be a free agent at the end of the season, whereas Bart is largely considered to be the Giants' catcher of the future. It remains to be seen if a trade will materialize, but it sounds like it would be a blockbuster if it were to happen.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Oakland Athletics fortified their bullpen Monday night by acquiring left-hander Andrew Chafin from the Chicago Cubs for two minor leaguers. Chafin was 0-2 with a 2.06 ERA in 43 relief appearances covering 39 1/3 innings for the Cubs this season. The deal was announced following their 6-5 win over Cincinnati and could signal more moves to come from Chicago. The Cubs received outfielder Greg Deichmann and right-hander Daniel Palencia. Also, Chicago is to send Oakland $500,000 to cover the cost of Chafin's contract buyout, conditioned to the pitcher's 2022 option not being declined. Oakland is in second place in the AL West and holds the league's second wild-card spot by one game over Seattle. The A's are five games behind first-place Houston. The disappointing Cubs are fourth in the NL Central at 50-51 and could be very busy before Friday's trade deadline, with star players such as Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javier Báez and Craig Kimbrel all attractive pieces potentially... Thu Jul 15 202121:30Braves acquire OF Joc Pederson in trade with Cubs
CHICAGO (AP) — The Atlanta Braves acquired Joc Pederson in a trade with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, bolstering their outfield after losing Ronald Acuña Jr. to a season-ending knee injury. Atlanta sent minor league first baseman Bryce Ball to Chicago for Pederson, who is batting .230 with 11 homers and 39 RBIs in 73 games. The 29-year-old Pederson spent his first seven seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers before signing with the Cubs in free agency in February. The Braves are looking to return to the playoffs, but their pursuit of a fourth straight NL East title took a hit when Acuña tore the ACL in his right knee during Saturday's 5-4 victory over Miami. Atlanta hit the All-Star break in third in the division, four games back of the first-place New York Mets. Pederson could be in the lineup when the Braves return to the field Friday night against Tampa Bay. The lefty-batting slugger played in the postseason in each of the previous six years with Los Angeles, batting .382 with two homers... [More]
Wed Jul 14 202100:10Rocky homecoming: Arenado, NL teammates drop 8th straight
DENVER (AP) — Nolan Arenado jogged out of the dugout and tipped his cap to a cheering crowd at his former home stadium. That tribute meant a lot. From there, the cheers were few and far between for Arenado and his National League buddies in a 5-2 loss to the American League contingent during the All-Star Game at Coors Field on Tuesday night. It was the eighth straight loss by the NL. “AL’s awesome,” Boston right-hander Matt Barnes cracked of the winning streak. “I might be biased because I’ve only ever played in the American League. Honestly, I have no idea. Sometimes there are crazy anomalies in sports like that, that have no rhyme nor reason. We have a really good ballclub out there. We really do.” The NL went 0 for 4 with runners in scoring position and left eight on base. "Unfortunately, I’m a part of three of them,” NL manager Dave Roberts said of the losing streak. “Not ideal but I hope I get a chance to win one next year.” It would be fitting for the Dodgers skipper. Next season,... [More]
