Wed Apr 17 2013 | 00:03 | Darin Mastroianni placed on DL |
Twins placed OF Darin Mastroianni on the 15-day disabled list with a left ankle injury. |
Mastroianni probably doesn't need two full weeks of down time, but with Wilkin Ramirez (back) and Josh Willingham (illness) on the shelf, the Twins had to call up an outfielder. Oswaldo Arcia replaced Mastroianni on the roster. |

Sun Apr 7 2013 | 00:14 | Mastroianni (ankle) still not ready to start |
Darin Mastroianni (ankle) said he's progressing but will still likely need a few days before he's ready to start. |
The outfielder injured his left ankle on a foul tip on March 25 and re-injured it trying to get loose on Opening Day. He indicated he'd like to be ready for the Twins' next series against the Royals, but it's more likely the start will come the following series against the Mets. When the 27-year-old returns, it remains to be seen what role he will fill with rookie Aaron Hicks currently occupying center field. |

Darin Mastroianni went 2-for-4 with a double, and swiped his sixth base of the spring in a losing effort against the Red Sox on Friday. |
Despite missing time with a hamstring problem, Mastroianni has done everything in his power to secure a place on the Twins Opening Day roster this spring, hitting .409 (9-for-22). Despite that, he seems to have been passed over by Aaron Hicks as the likely starter in center field. Even in a reserve role, Mastroianni does hold mixed league value with his keen ability to steal bases. |

Sat Mar 2 2013 | 16:50 | Mastroianni still held up by hamstring |
Darin Mastroianni's sore left hamstring is expected to keep him out of action until the middle or end of next week. |
Despite missing a few more games, the injury is not thought to be too serious. The 27-year-old stole 21 bases in 24 attempts last season, so he'll need the hamstring to be near full-strength to be as effective as he can be going forward. With the offseasoon trades of Denard Span and Ben Revere, Mastroianni is battling for a starting outfield spot this spring. |

Wed Sep 19 2012 | 17:44 | Darin Mastroianni limited to pinch-running |
Darin Mastroianni will be limited to pinch-running for the final 14 games this season due to a torn tendon in his left middle finger. |
He'll end the season with a .252/.328/.350 batting line but could conceivably add to his stolen base total of 21. Mastroianni has probably done enough this season to have a good shot at a bench role in 2013. |

Thu Jul 5 2012 | 17:39 | DarinMastroianni steals three bases for Twins |
Darin Mastroianni had three hits and three steals Thursday against the Tigers. |
That's the good news. The bad is that he was caught stealing home having already stolen second and third in the eighth inning. Mastroianni isn't much of a hitter, but he is 8-for-9 stealing bases in 30 games for the Twins. He'd probably be worth using in AL-only leagues if a Twins outfielder gets hurt. |
