Quite the stat line for Covington, as he looks to build off his breakout 2014-15 campaign. Covington was once a stud in the D-League and he's starting to make a name for himself in the NBA. He's especially valuable in categories formats, as he provides plenty of threes and steals to go along with some nice scoring and rebounding. Look for the small forward to be a potential steal in drafts, as he's outside the top-50 forwards in most preseason rankings.

Covington totaled 12 points (4-11 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six assists, six rebounds, a steal, and a block over 29 minutes in Thursday's 115-114 victory over the Cavaliers.

Like teammate and fellow small forward Jerami Grant, Covington has not been shy about breaking out his three-point shot in the preseason, already putting up 11 attempts at a 45 percent success rate over the first pair of games on the exhibition slate. Covington has also turned in two six-rebound efforts in the Sixers' first two exhibition contests, a positive sign after he averaged 4.5 in 2014-15. Overall, the 24-year-old has gotten off to a strong start and will need to maintain it in order to stave off Grant for a starting role. At worse, the Sixers will enjoy quality depth at the small forward spot, something that they were hard pressed to claim at virtually any position for a long time.

Covington is in line to start at small forward for the 76ers this season, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Covington has been seeing some run at power forward during training camp, but he'll likely only play the position during scenarios in which coach Brett Brown opts for a stretch four rather than more traditional post options like Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor. The 76ers cycled through a number of players in the starting lineup last season, but Covington was one of the few constants for the team, as he averaged 27.9 minutes per night over 70 games. As a volume three-point shooter, Covington has his uses as a single-category play, but his high reliance on outside jumpers will remain a likely hindrance to his overall field-goal percentage.

Covington averaged 13.5 points (40% FG, 37% 3Pt, 82% FT), 2.4 three-pointers, 1.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 28 minutes per game for 70 regular season games in 2014-15.

Covington emerged as a legitimate option for the 76ers, and produced in fantasy as well, finishing as the 64th ranked player in eight-category leagues. At 24-years-old, the sharpshooter has an opportunity to build on a successful sophomore year, and hopes to appear in the starting lineup for 2015-16. The team has yet to lock in his non-guaranteed contract, but it's hard to imagine the 76ers would dismiss him after a great 2014-15 season. However, if the team makes offseason moves in the backcourt (especially the NBA draft) then Covington could see a change in his role for next season. Despite these nuances, he should still be worth a mid-to-late round pick in standard leagues.
