CF Jacoby Ellsbury set an unusual major league record Monday night, when he reached base via catcher's interference for the 30th time in his career during the Yankees' 5-1 win over the Rays at Citi Field. Ellsbury, who reached via catcher's interference and scored during the Yankees' five-run fourth inning, broke a record he shared with Pete Rose. Remarkably, Ellsbury needed just 1,218 games to break a record Rose set over the course of a 3,562 games, the most ever played by a major leaguer. He has hit .207 in 22 games since returning to the lineup on Aug. 10 with three homers and 11 RBI.For the season, Hicks is hitting .265 with 13 home runs and 48 RBIs in 82 games.In another move announced before Saturday night's game against the Red Sox, the Yankees recalled left-hander Caleb Smith from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.Smith, 26, has appeared in seven games (two starts) for the Yankees this season, going 0-1 with a 6.11 ERA in 17 2/3 innings.
