RHP Jose Fernandez labored early but dominated late on Tuesday, when he didn't factor into the decision after allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out five over five innings as the Marlins beat the Mets, 2-1. Fernandez allowed the lone run and all the baserunners in the first two innings, during which the Mets forced him to throw 51 pitches. But Fernandez retired the final 10 batters he faced, including the final four by strikeout. He is 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 10 2/3 innings this season.

Fernandez took the loss last Wednesday, when he gave up five runs on five hits and one walk while striking out 13 over 5 2/3 innings as the Marlins fell to the Tigers, 7-3. RHP Jose Fernandez's major-league-record home winning streak of 17 games ended on Wednesday against the Tigers. Detroit generated five hits, one walk and five runs in 5 2/3 innings against Fernandez, who struck out 13, one short of his career high. Fernandez had never lost a home game in his career before Wednesday, going 17-0 with a 1.40 ERA in 26 starts. His 17 consecutive wins without a loss are a major-league record for the modern era.
Wed Apr 6 201623:47Winless Marlins face tough road trip
MIAMI -- Jose Fernandez lost a home game on Wednesday -- something he had never done previously in his major-league career, which had encompassed 26 starts and a brilliant 1.40 ERA.Fernandez's failure -- he allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings -- came one night after Marlins left-hander Wei-Yin Chen was beaten soundly by the same team, the Detroit Tigers.Sure, it's just two games for the Marlins (0-2), but the team's confidence may be at least dented considering they now go on the road to face the top two teams in the National League East -- the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets -- for a pair of three-game series. The Marlins will be outgunned on the mound almost every night on this trip, starting with Thursday, when they send out lightly-tested left-hander Adam Conley.Fernandez, though, preached patience as well as confidence in his teammates."One thing we do really well as a team is turn the page," Fernandez said. "It's early, man -- two games. A lot of good things are going to happen."I believe in this team 120 percent. I have their back, and I know we will be ready."The Marlins can only hope he is right.

RHP Jose Fernandez will start the Marlins' second game of the season against the Tigers on April 6. Fernandez, 23, returned to the mound last July after undergoing Tommy John ligament replacement surgery in May 2014 and made 11 starts, going 6-1 with a 2.92 ERA. The Marlins plan to put a limit on Fernandez's innings this season."Jose could very easily be the guy," manager Don Mattingly said before Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the St. Louis Cardinals in Jupiter, Fla. "I know he wanted to be the guy. But we feel like this was the best thing for the team moving forward, and Jose was fine."

RHP Jose Fernandez is not being shopped, Marlins team president Mike Hill told the Miami Herald on Tuesday. The 23-year-old All-Star is 22-9 in 47 major league starts with a 2.40 ERA and 336 strikeouts. He returned last season from elbow surgery in 2015.

Fernandez (6-1) took his first loss of the season in his final start of the season, giving up two runs on 11 hits in six innings against the Rays, though he struck out nine.
Ironically, Fernandez was much worse in the start prior to this one, giving up six runs in five innings, but nonetheless coming away with a win. In any case, his 12-start return from Tommy John surgery has certainly been a rousing success, and Fernandez should be considered a borderline-elite starting option for next season, with the lone caveat of a potential innings limit.

Fernandez (6-0) surrendered six runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out two in Friday's win over Atlanta.
Friday's start, far and away Fernandez's worst of the season, inflated his ERA from 2.18 to 2.91. Still, Fernandez continues to boast an elite 10.74 K/9 rate in his 10 starts this season to go along with a 1.09 WHIP. Consider Friday a blip and feel confident using Fernandez next week.

Fernandez allowed two runs on five hits, walking two and striking out eight over 5.2 innings, but was left with a no-decision as the Marlins fell to the Nationals 4-3 in 10 innings Friday night.
The Marlins are being understandably cautious with his workload as he comes back from Tommy John surgery and then a biceps strain. He tossed 95 pitches (58 for strikes) in this one, and carries a tidy 2.18 ERA on the season. He'll look to return to his spot near the top of the list of elite starting pitchers next season.

Fernandez (5-0) picked up the win Saturday against Washington, allowing no runs on two hits and one walk while striking out seven over five innings.
Fernandez made his return after missing over a month with a biceps strain. He threw only 69 pitches in a game in which he dominated Washington hitters before being given the rest of the evening off. In an injury-plagued season, the Marlins' ace lowered his ERA to 2.06 and his WHIP to 0.98. He'll make his next start Thursday against Washington.
Sat Sep 12 201514:46Jose Fernandez: Activated From DL, Starting Saturday
The Marlins activated Fernandez (biceps) from the disabled list Saturday.
Fernandez is ready to resume pitching after recovering from his biceps injury, and he will jump right into the Marlins' rotation and start Saturday against the Nationals. That should be a welcome sight for Fernandez and his fantasy owners -- he has given up just two earned runs (0.69 ERA) and has recorded 28 strikeouts in 26 innings over four career starts against Washington.

Fernandez (biceps) threw a bullpen session Wednesday and remains on track to start against the Nationals on Saturday, MLB.com reports.
Two days after tossing a simulated game, Fernandez got back onto the mound for more work, and manager Dan Jennings said the right-hander threw the ball "very well." Fernandez began experiencing shoulder tightness during his Aug. 7 outing, his seventh start back from Tommy John surgery, resulting in his placement on the 15-day DL.
Mon Sep 7 201511:42Jose Fernandez: (Biceps) Expects to Pitch Saturday
Fernandez (biceps) said he expects to rejoin the Marlins' rotation for a start Saturday against the Nationals, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Fernandez tossed a 75-pitch simulated game Monday and indicated he felt great afterward, with his strained right biceps no longer proving problematic. He still has a bullpen session scheduled for later this week, but assuming that goes well, it appears the Marlins plan on having back on the mound over the weekend without heading out on a rehab assignment. Fernandez looked strong in his seven starts coming back from Tommy John surgery before the biceps strain took effect, going 4-0 with a 2.30 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 53:10 K:BB ratio over 43 innings.

The Marlins hope that Fernandez (biceps) will return to the rotation in mid-September, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports.
Fernandez continues to work his way back from a biceps injury, but it doesn't appear it will be as soon as a recent report suggested. However, he'll get some more work in at the tail end of the season, and should be back in time to impact some fantasy playoff scenarios.

Fernandez (biceps) will throw a bullpen session Thursday and could be activated from the disabled list shortly thereafter, the Miami Herald reports.
Fernandez is working his way back swiftly after hitting the disabled list with strained biceps on August 8. Manager Dan Jennings further noted that Fernandez may surpass a minor league rehab assignment and jump right back into the Marlins' rotation following a simulated game. Regardless of specifics, a positive throwing session this week will put the ace on the fast track back to the big club.
Tue Aug 25 201517:08Jose Fernandez: (Shoulder) Nearing A Return
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jose Fernandez could be activated from the disabled list sometime next week after recovering from a biceps injury, according to the Miami Herald.
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jose Fernandez could be activated from the disabled list sometime next week after recovering from a biceps injury, according to the Miami Herald. Fernandez has not pitched since he was diagnosed with a strained biceps on Aug. 8, but he will throw a bullpen session Thursday and could return shortly after. The team has still not decided what the next step would be for their young ace, but a simulated game and a minor league rehab start are both options. "There's a case with him we could run him to Jupiter and get him in [a minor league game]," Marlins manager Dan Jennings said. "But he may accomplish the same thing in a sim game. Just depends on when he's ready to amp it that way. But he feels great right now, real good." Fernandez is on track to return sometime in early September.
