Thu Sep 6 201201:13Dustin Ackley has two-RBI night
Dustin Ackley singled home both of the Mariners' runs in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Red Sox.
Ackley's fourth-inning knock was his only hit in four trips to the plate. Ackley's now hitting .230 in 204 at-bats since the All-Star break after entering the Midsummer Classic with a .233 mark. His on-base percentage is south of .300 since the stars gathered in Kansas City, and an even .300 on the season. 2013 is going to be a very important season for the 24-year-old former No. 2 overall pick.

Wed Jul 25 201219:17Dustin Ackley hitless in five straight
Dustin Ackley went hitless in a fifth straight game Wednesday and is down to .220 for the season.
It's probably time for Ackley to be reunited with Justin Smoak in Triple-A. The Mariners don't have any great alternatives, but they could give Carlos Triunfel a shot. While the 22-year-old Triunfel is hitting just .255/.311/.399 overall for Tacoma, he is batting .299/.329/.493 in July.

Sat Jul 14 201201:12Dustin Ackley goes 0-for-5 in loss
Dustin Ackley struck out with the tying run on third to end an 0-for-5 night against the Rangers on Friday.
The Mariners need to do something to shake things up a bit, and sending down Ackley is an option, even though he's not quite as deserving of the demotion as Justin Smoak. With the 0-for-5 tonight, his average is down to .230. His OPS is down nearly 140 points from where he finished his rookie season.

Tue Jul 10 201221:35M's considering demotion for Ackley, Smoak
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Mariners have discussed demoting Dustin Ackley and Justin Smoak to the minors.
Heyman says they "may keep them up for now, though." Both youngsters have been disappointing this season, as Ackley has hit just .233/.311/.325, while Smoak is sporting just a .203/.265/.332 batting line. The floundering Mariners don't have much to lose by continuing to roll the pair out there, but perhaps they think they'd be best served by regaining some confidence in the minors.

Mon Jun 25 201209:01Ackley struggling mightily
Dustin Ackley has just two extra-base hits and 23 strikeouts in 73 at-bats this month.
Ackley's season-long struggles continue. He's batting .243/.319/.338 with four home runs and 23 RBI in 69 games, and doesn't appear close to breaking through. But a demotion is not imminent. "I know he's frustrated right now," said M's skipper Eric Wedge. "He's going to be fine. He needs to recognize what's been going on for a period of time, and take that away from the opposition. That's what he has to do. We'll help him get there."

Fri Jun 15 201218:33Ackley dropped to seventh Friday
Dustin Ackley was dropped to seventh in Friday's lineup against the Giants.
Ackley is hitting just .205 in June and .243 with a .606 OPS for the season, so Mariners manager Eric Wedge is trying something different. While Ichiro Suzuki remains in the leadoff spot, Franklin Gutierrez will bat second.

Fri May 25 201219:11Ackley not in Friday's lineup
Dustin Ackley is not in Friday's lineup.
Interesting timing for "Dustin Ackley Bobblehead Night." We're assuming it's just a routine day off. Kyle Seager will make the start at second base while Munenori Kawasaki plays shortstop and Alex Liddi plays third.

Wed May 16 201222:18Dustin Ackley has three-hit night
Dustin Ackley went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's loss to the Indians.
The three-hit night prolongs Ackley's hitting streak to 12 games, though he's posted just two multi-hit efforts along the way. The home run was his third, and only his second since the Mariners' season opener in Japan. Seattle's leadoff hitter will bring a .262/.325/.383 triple slash into play on Thursday.

Wed Apr 25 201215:34Ackley batting leadoff Wednesday night
Dustin Ackley will bat leadoff Wednesday night against the Tigers.
We probably shouldn't get used to it, as Ackley is only getting the nod because Chone Figgins has the night off. The 24-year-old should slide back into his customary No. 2 spot on Thursday.

Wed Apr 18 201217:38Ackley making first start at 1B
Dustin Ackley is making his first career start at first base Wednesday night against the Indians.
Munenori Kawasaki is playing second base. Ackley, 24, is batting .239/.286/.348 with one home run, one steal and four RBI in 49 plate appearances this season. We wouldn't expect the first base thing to become common.

Wed Mar 28 201209:24Ackley homers, drives in two in win
Dustin Ackley went 2-for-5 with a homer, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's season opener against the Athletics.
That's a nice way to fill up the boxscore. Ackley clubbed a solo homer to right-center in the fourth inning and plated Brendan Ryan with the go-ahead run on an RBI single in the 11th. The 24-year-old second baseman probably won't stand out in any one category this season, but he should have some value in standard mixed leagues.

Sun Sep 4 201120:06Ackley hits his 6th homer
Dustin Ackley went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's loss to the Athletics.
Ackley has busted out of that ugly August slump. Over his last seven games, the talented rookie is 11-of-25 with two homers and six RBI. He's a major bright spot for the 58-81 Mariners.

Tue Aug 30 201101:18Dustin Ackley goes 3-for-3
Dustin Ackley went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in Monday's win over the Angels.
The talented youngster finished a home run shy of the cycle. Ackley has struggled in August after terrific months of June and July, but he has batted .325 over his last nine contests to push his average back up to .291 for the season.

Thu Aug 18 201101:07Ackley's slump deepens as M's lose
Dustin Ackley went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in Seattle's loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Now just 8-for-42 (.190) over his past 12 games, Ackley is mired in the first prolonged slump of his major-league career. It was bound to happen, but it will be interesting to see how long it takes the sensational rookie, who is still batting .286/.370/.481 for the year, to snap out of it.

Tue Aug 2 201101:29Ackley has another big night
Dustin Ackley went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI in Seattle's 8-4 win over the A's on Monday.
Ackley is now sporting a .929 OPS through his first 37 major-league games, and would likely be the favorite for the American League's Rookie of the Year award if he had more plate appearances under his belt. He's beginning to look like an elite keeper option at second base.

Wed Jul 20 201121:56Ackley homers, doubles in loss
Dustin Ackley homered, doubled and drove in three runs in Seattle's 11-6 loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Ackley's fourth home run was his first in 11 games. Even with the Mariners offense going totally dark this month, Ackley has put up decent numbers, batting .272 with six extra-base hits and six RBI through his first 55 July at-bats. He should be worth holding onto in all formats going forward.

Sat Jul 9 201101:04Dustin Ackley moves up to third in order
Batting third for the first time, Dustin Ackley went 1-for-4 with a run scored Friday against the Angels.
The Mariners moved Ackley up and dropped Justin Smoak to fifth, which would be bad news for the first baseman's value if it sticks. The Mariners have Miguel Olivo in the cleanup spot and all he ever does is homer or make outs, so the No. 5 hitter doesn't get many RBI chances in Seattle. Ackley, though, is looking better and better as a fantasy property with the move up.

Wed Jul 6 201101:01Ackley goes 2-for-3 with a home run in win
Dustin Ackley went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk in a 10-inning, 4-2 win over the A's Tuesday.
He took Trevor Cahill deep in the seventh inning. The 23-year-old now has three homers and eight RBI to go with a .300/.368/.580 slash line in his young career. He's already established himself as a must-start second baseman.
