White Sox placed RHP Gavin Floyd on the 15-day disabled list with a flexor muscle strain in his right elbow.
Floyd suffered the injury during Saturday's start. It's not clear at this time how long the right-hander will be sidelined. The White Sox will use Hector Santiago in the rotation for now, but John Danks (shoulder) could be ready to return before long.

Sat Apr 27 201323:24Gavin Floyd (elbow) heading to disabled list
White Sox manager Robin Ventura confirmed after Saturday's game that Gavin Floyd will be placed on the disabled list with a flexor muscle strain in his right elbow.
Hector Santiago will take over Floyd's spot in the White Sox rotation and Deunte Heath will be recalled from Triple-A to join the bullpen. Floyd missed around three weeks with a similar injury during the 2012 season.

Sat Apr 27 201320:23Floyd diagnosed with flexor strain in elbow
Gavin Floyd was removed in the third inning Saturday with a flexor muscle strain in his right elbow.
Floyd spent time on the disabled list with the same ailment in 2012 and is likely headed back. Hector Santiago may be a candidate to take his place in the rotation. Floyd allowed two runs in 2 2/3 innings to the Rays on Saturday night before being lifted.

Gavin Floyd was removed from Saturday's game against the Rays in the third inning with an undisclosed injury.
No word yet on the cause or extent of the injury. The White Sox should release an update on his status shortly. Floyd surrendered two runs on two hits and a pair of walks over 2 2/3 innings before departing.

Mon Apr 15 201322:40Gavin Floyd takes third straight loss
Gavin Floyd dropped to 0-3 after allowing four runs in 4 1/3 innings Monday against the Blue Jays.
Floyd has a solid enough 18/7 K/BB ratio in 15 2/3 innings this year, but he's already allowed three homers among his 22 hits. His velocity has been OK, so maybe there's some bad luck involved. He'll have every chance to turn it around with the Twins and Rays next on the schedule.

Wed Apr 10 201322:05Floyd loses steam in loss to Nationals
Gavin Floyd allowed five runs in 5 1/3 innings as the White Sox lost to the Nationals on Wednesday.
Floyd started well, registering four strikeouts in three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in three consecutive innings starting with a Bryce Harper home run to lead off the fourth. The 30-year-old finished with seven strikeouts, but it's the thinnest of silver linings in an otherwise ugly line. Floyd's next turn will come Monday against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Thu Apr 4 201317:30Floyd goes six innings in loss to Royals
Gavin Floyd allowed three runs (two earned) over six innings Thursday in a loss to the Royals.
All three runs scored in the fifth inning. He struck out five and walked just one in the loss. Floyd doesn't have a lot of upside, but he has averaged 7.4 K/9 over the past four seasons and has made at least 29 starts in each of the last five years. He's not a bad option as a final member of a pitching staff in standard 12-team mixed leagues.

Mon Mar 25 201319:40Floyd knocked around in loss to Angels
Gavin Floyd was knocked around for seven runs over seven-plus innings in Monday's loss to the Angels.
Floyd faced one batter in the eighth inning before being pulled. He gave up a total of 12 hits, including two home runs. On the bright side, he issued just one walk and struck out six. While the White Sox surely would have liked to have seen better results this late in the spring, the important part is that he's properly stretched out for the start of the season.

Wed Mar 20 201318:40Gavin Floyd goes five innings
Gavin Floyd held the Diamondbacks to two runs over five frames Wednesday.
He permitted seven hits, walked one and punched out five. Floyd holds a 4.61 ERA over 13 2/3 Cactus League innings, but it's come along with a nice 15/2 K/BB ratio. He remains an end-game option in fantasy leagues.

Fri Mar 15 201318:32Gavin Floyd impressive in win over Cubs
Gavin Floyd limited the Cubs to one run over 5 1/3 innings on Friday.
Floyd allowed just four hits -- three of them singles -- while walking none and fanning five. It was nice to see after he was knocked around for four runs over 3 1/3 innings in his Cactus League debut on Sunday. There isn't much upside with Floyd at this point, but he should be relevant in most mixed fantasy leagues this season.

Fri Dec 28 201220:50White Sox may be reluctant to trade Floyd
Despite recent trade rumblings, Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago said Thursday that until John Danks is deemed healthy, the White Sox may be reluctant to trade Gavin Floyd.
At some point, the White Sox will have an extra starting pitcher and could deal from a position of strength to acquire the left-handed bat they desire. It appears for the time-being however, that it won't occur until the spring when Danks can prove he's fully healthy.

Fri Dec 21 201222:50White Sox open to trading Gavin Floyd
According to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com, the White Sox are looking around for a left-handed hitter, and have again let teams know that Gavin Floyd is available.
It makes sense, as aside from Adam Dunn and Alejandro De Aza, the White Sox projected starting lineup is entirely right-handed. Floyd averaged 190 innings with a 4.12 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over the past five seasons, and should generate interest with the free agent market starting to dwindle. A move away from the friendly confines of U.S. Cellular Field would also be a major boost to Floyd's fantasy value.

Mon Dec 3 201217:37Orioles have interest in RHP Gavin Floyd
Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports that the Orioles are interested in trading for right-hander Gavin Floyd.
It's probably unlikely to happen unless the White Sox add another starter. Floyd is set to make $9.3 million in 2013 before hitting free agency. The 29-year-old right-hander had a 4.29 ERA in 29 starts with the White Sox this past season.

Thu Nov 29 201222:11Gavin Floyd could be traded
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the White Sox are considering adding a starter, which would allow them the flexibility to trade Gavin Floyd.
Rosenthal says it would be a "lower-end type at the right price." Floyd is set to make $9.5 million in 2013 before hitting free agency next winter. He would fetch a pretty decent return in a trade -- perhaps someone that could play third base -- so it would make some sense to deal him now if new GM Rick Hahn is able to find a starter at a bargain.

Mon Nov 5 201211:12White Sox may trade a starter this offseason
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn has hinted that he might trade a starting pitcher this offseason.
"I think we're going to hear from a lot of teams about our starting pitching depth," Hahn told CSN Chicago. "I think we're going to be pretty popular in that regard vis-a-vis trades because we're in a better position than a lot of clubs right now." Gavin Floyd is owed a $9.5 million salary in 2013 and will be a free agent after the season. Moving him probably makes the most sense.

Tue Oct 30 201218:17White Sox exercise Gavin Floyd's 2013 option
White Sox exercised RHP Gavin Floyd's $9.5 million option for 2013.
It was a pretty easy decision. Floyd's ERA has been over 4.00 each of the last four seasons, but he's had nice ratios and has been very durable for the White Sox. Slated to turn 30 in January, Floyd will hope to put up a big year in 2013 before hitting free agency.

Wed Oct 3 201223:17Gavin Floyd dominates Indians Wednesday
Gavin Floyd dominated the Indians in Wednesday's 9-0, season-ending win, scattering just three hits across seven scoreless frames.
Floyd fanned six and walked two. It was an embarrassing end for an Indians team that folded up shot in mid-summer, and promising finish for a White Sox club that majorly overachieved. As for Floyd, he was typically inconsistent, posting a 4.29 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 144/63 K/BB ratio across 168 innings. He turned in 13 quality starts, but was also roughed up for five or more runs eight times. The White Sox must now decide whether they want to exercise Floyd's $9.5 million 2013 club option. They most likely will.

Sat Sep 29 201201:26Floyd impressive, fans six in win over Rays
Gavin Floyd came through with an impressive outing when the White Sox needed it most on Friday, allowing just one run on two hits over five innings in a win over the Rays.
Floyd struck out six in the game. He also struggled with his command though, issuing five walks and requiring 105 pitches to battle through five innings. While the Rays certainly made him work, he was able to come through with big pitches when he needed to, limiting the overall damage. He'll take an 11-11 record and 4.47 ERA into the regular season finale against the Indians in Cleveland on Wednesday.

Sun Sep 23 201218:23Floyd allows four runs in loss to Angels
Gavin Floyd allowed four earned runs over six innings Sunday in a loss against the Angels.
Floyd racked up eight strikeouts and issued only one walk, but the dangerous Anaheim offense poured on seven hits (including a Kendrys Morales two-run homer). Floyd has a 4.56 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 156 innings this season. He will take on the Rays next time out.

Fri Sep 14 201218:33Floyd to start Tuesday vs. Royals
Gavin Floyd will start Tuesday against the Royals.
Early speculation was that Floyd was going to start Monday's makeup game against the Tigers, but Jose Quintana will get the assignment now that Francisco Liriano isn't being skipped in the rotation. Floyd allowed three runs over 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in his first start back from the disabled list and will get some extra time to recover.
