RHP Jose Berrios (8-2) recovered from back-to-back tough outings to beat Baltimore for the second time this season on Thursday. Berrios allowed four runs (three earned) and seven hits while striking out four. It was the second outing of Berrios' career in which he didn't surrender a walk.

RHP Jose Berrios said (through an interpreter) he was a bit "anxious" in the first inning Monday night, allowing two runs to the Red Sox. But he settled down and pitched into the seventh as his four-game June winning streak was stopped in the loss. "I was proud of how Jose hung in there," said Twins manager Paul Molitor. "He kept us in the game and we battled, we got a homer to cut it in half and had an opportunity there to at least tie the game and we didn't get it done and they were able to tack on." The solo homer by Mitch Moreland in the first inning was only the second homer allowed by Berrios since May 24.

BALTIMORE -- Jose Berrios picked up his third straight win with a solid performance and the Minnesota Twins completed a three-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 4-3 victory in a Wednesday matinee.The Twins improved to 14-5 on the road and are in first place in the American League Central. It was Minnesota's first three-game sweep in Baltimore since 1996, although the Twins swept a four-game series in 2015. RHP Jose Berrios (2-0) had the best outing of his short major league career on Thursday, striking out a career-high 11 Colorado batters and giving up just two hits and one walk in 7 2/3 innings. Berrios controlled his fastball and kept the Rockies off balance with a devastating slider. He held Colorado hitless through four innings and struck out seven of the first 13 batters he faced. He hit two batters in the game but stranded them early. Rockies 1B Ian Desmond compared Berrios to former Miami Marlins phenom Jose Fernandez. Berrios' 11 strikeouts were the most by a Twins pitcher since Ervin Santana had 10 against the Kansas City Royals on Aug. 21, 2016.

RHP Jose Berrios has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester. He will start the game Saturday vs. Cleveland. In six starts at Rochester Berrios was 3-0 with an International League-leading 1.13 ERA. In 14 starts last year for the Twins Berrios was 3-7 with an 8.02 ERA.

RHP Jose Berrios simply didn't have time to challenge for the fifth starter spot after playing in the World Baseball Classic. Berrios returned to the team after pitching just 6 2/3 innings during the WBC and he wasn't stretched out enough to start the season in the majors right away. Berrios was competing with RHP Tyler Duffey and LHP Adalberto Mejia for the spot. Berrios was sent to Triple-A and will have the chance to build up innings and earn a potential call-up.

RHP Jose Berrios, 22, needs to live up to his billing as one of the best pitching prospects in the game. Minnesota needs pitching and Berrios could be the front-line starter the Twins have been searching for since Johan Santana was winning Cy Young Awards in the Metrodome. Berrios burned through his rookie eligibility this season, while being unable to replicate the control he showed in the high minors. Berrios walked 35 batters in 58 1/3 innings. He finished with an 8.02 ERA and had 49 strikeouts. He still has the potential but coaches will have to bring out his best. Minnesota hasn't developed top pitching in several years.

RHP Jose Berrios finished his rookie season with a 3-7 mark and an 8.94 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 14 starts. On Sunday, he allowed one run on five hits while walking three and striking out three. He was 2-4 with an 8.75 ERA, 24 walks and 25 strikeouts in nine starts against AL Central teams.
