Sat Nov 9 201323:09Anderson Varejao hurts his shoulder
Anderson Varejao had ice on his shoulder during Saturday's game against the Sixers, finishing with 13 points, 10 boards, two assists, two steals and three blocks in 43 minutes.
It seems like he's hurt just as much as he's healthy, but this shoulder injury isn't a concern at this point. Varejao registered his first double-double of the season and is more of a low-upside option in standard leagues.

Sat Nov 9 201300:15Varejao struggles in Friday's loss to Sixers
Anderson Varejao hit just 1-of-7 shots for two points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 32 minutes on Friday against the Sixers.
Varejao has been inconsistent but he's still a late mid-round value on the year and owners should keep trotting him out there while that's the case.

Sat Nov 2 201323:00Anderson Varejao plays well in loss to Pacers
Anderson Varejao had 14 points, six rebounds and three steals on 6-of-9 shooting in Friday's loss to the Pacers.
That's a solid outing from Varejao, especially when you consider the Cavs only scored 24 points in the paint tonight. By now you know the deal with Varejao. He has All-Star potential when healthy, but his struggles with staying off the injury report over the last three seasons make him a high-risk, high-reward player.

Fri Nov 1 201322:14Varejao quiet in loss to the Bobcats
Anderson Varejao scored just two points on free throws to go with seven rebounds, two assists and no steals or blocks in 29 minutes on Friday against the Bobcats.
Varejao missed all four of his field goal attempts and it's possible he's just knocking the rust off. He had 11 points, eight boards and a block on Wednesday, and until he shows his consistency he's not a must-start player for the time-being.

Wed Oct 30 201322:15Anderson Varejao plays well in win
Anderson Varejao had 11 points, eight rebounds and a block in 35 minutes of Wednesday's win.
He was blowing up at this time last year and appears to be fully healthy. He historically hasn't lasted very long due to injuries, but does look to be at full strength right now.

Sun Oct 27 201312:10Varejao: I'll 'probably' have minute-limit
Anderson Varejao said that coach Mike Brown will "probably" restrict his playing time somewhat this season, but the Cavs haven't officially said as much.
"[I'm] not sure [about a minute-limit] yet," Varejao said. "I want to play. If [Brown] plays me five minutes, if he plays me 35, like I said, I will give 100 percent. My goal is to stay healthy. After these last three seasons of freak injuries, I want to go out there and just have a healthy season." Fantasy owners will second that, as Varejao's injury history makes him a boom-or-bust option in the second half of drafts.

Wed Oct 23 201322:31Anderson Varejao quiet in 20 minutes
Anderson Varejao played 20 minutes and finished with four points, six rebounds, a steal and a block in Wednesday's preseason game.
He was on fire before going down with season-ending injuries last year, but is working his way back to health. He should be drafted as a second or third center in fantasy leagues, but beware that he has a real tough time staying healthy. But if he gets into game shape and can stay off the trainer's table, he could be fun to own.

Thu Oct 17 201309:17Anderson Varejao expected back Thursday
Anderson Varejao is expected to return to action on Thursday night after getting Tuesday night off.
He's been a beast when healthy over the past few seasons, but unfortunately, tends to go down with a freak injury at the wrong time every year. If he can somehow stay healthy, he'll be a very valuable fantasy center, but there's risk in drafting him.

Tue Oct 15 201319:14Anderson Varejao resting Tuesday
Anderson Varejao will not play on Tuesday in order to rest.
He's typically injured enough during the regular season that it makes sense for the Cavs to take it easy on him while the games don't count.

Tue Oct 8 201322:04Anderson Varejao grabs 10 boards in return
Anderson Varejao grabbed 10 boards in his return to the lineup on Tuesday, scoring four points with one assist, two steals and one block in 21 minutes.
He was a rebound magnet before suffering a season-ending quad injury last season, pulling down an average of 14.4 boards per game. Varejao's fantasy value is tied directly to Andrew Bynum's status, so with Bynum without a timetable, Varejao could be off to a fast start. Although, we wouldn't advise reaching for him since he has injury problems of his own.

Fri Sep 20 201308:42Anderson Varejao says he's at 70 percent
Anderson Varejao estimates that he is 70 percent healthy after missing 56 games last season due to a quad injury and a blood clot.
"I need to get rhythm back but it feels good," he said. "I'm very happy. I've been testing my quad in those pick up games, setting a lot of screens, going up for offensive rebounds -- that's my game." Varejao could end up in the starting lineup with news that Andrew Bynum won't be ready for the start of training camp, but if Bynum ever does find his way back onto the court, the two big men would likely split minutes. As usual, Varejao is worth a look on draft night, but given his injury history, we wouldn't recommend using a high draft pick on him.

Sat Sep 14 201321:09Report: Varejao ready to go for training camp
Anderson Varejao (blood clots) has reportedly been cleared to perform all basketball activities during the Cavaliers' training camp.
Varejao has a good chance to start this season, but a healthy Andrew Bynum (knees) would make the Cavs' frontcourt uncomfortably crowded. Cleveland will balance the need to protect Varejao by limiting his minutes, and their desire to have him contribute on the court and thereby raise his trade value. The good news is that it sounds like he'll enter the season healthy after missing 57 games last year.

Fri Jul 19 201320:56Report: Mike Brown hinting Varejao may start
Mike Brown hinted on Friday that Anderson Varejao could still start in the Cavs' suddenly crowded frontcourt.
The frontcourt is only crowded to the extent it can stay healthy, with Varejao and Andrew Bynum both being injury risks. This leaves Tristan Thompson, No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett and Tyler Zeller all in the mix down low, with the Cavs flirting with the idea of using Bennett as a SF. Varejao was a fun player to own last year when he was healthy, and owners shouldn't sleep on him during their drafts.

Thu May 30 201304:12Varejao (lung, quad) ready for Cavs' camp
Anderson Varejao (blood clot in lung) has been "working out steadily" since early May and he's expected to be ready for the Cavaliers' training camp.
Varejao also had surgery on a split quad muscle before developing the season-ending blood clot, but his quad has healed and the clot now seems like a non-issue. His name will undoubtedly surface in trade rumors once he's fully healthy, but Varejao is under contract for two more seasons and newly re-hired coach Mike Brown loves his defense and energy.

Mon Jan 21 201311:12Anderson Varejao has blood clot, out for year
Anderson Varejao recently developed a blood clot in his lung and is out for the season.
A bad break gets worse for Varejao, who is now officially done for the season, according to the Cavs. Varejao just had surgery for a small split in his right quad, and he is expected to remain at the Cleveland Clinic to be treated and monitored. The good news is that he's expected to make a full recovery. This locks Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller in as the starting frontcourt for the remainder of the season. Thompson is averaging 10.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.7 blocks as the starting power forward, while Zeller is averaging 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks as the starting center.

Thu Jan 10 201315:04Varejao has quad surgery, out 6-8 weeks
Anderson Varejao had surgery on Thursday to repair a small split in his right quad.
Varejao's timetable remains 6-8 weeks, during which time the Cavs will rely on Tristan Thompson and rookie Tyler Zeller for frontcourt production. Fantasy owners cruising into the playoffs might be able to keep him until March, but in most situations he belongs on the waiver wire.

Wed Jan 9 201311:14Anderson Varejao needs surgery, out 6-8 weeks
Anderson Varejao (knee) needs surgery to repair a "a small longitudinal split in the vastus medialis" and is expected t be out for 6-8 weeks.
It's a torn quad muscle for Varejao. This is just a brutal blow for owners who were holding on to Varejao expecting him to be back in the near future. We suspected that the injury was more severe than a knee contusion, and an MRI revealed exactly that. Tyler Zeller and Tristan Thompson are locked into major roles for the foreseeable future, while the injury likely lessens the interest in Varejao on the trade market.

Wed Jan 9 201308:17Anderson Varejao's return date a mystery
Byron Scott has no idea when Anderson Varejao (knee) will be ready to play.
But I'm hoping I'm not talking like it's long-term or for the season, or anything like that," he said. "I'm still optimistic that he'll be able to play this year until the doctors tell me something different." Varejao's knee injury was supposed to be minor, but the big man is clearly dealing with something more serious than the team has let on.

Anderson Varejao (knee) did not return to practice Tuesday and will not play in Wednesday's game against the Hawks.

Tue Jan 8 201309:54Cavs still hopeful Varejao can practice Tues.
Byron Scott remained hopeful that Anderson Varejao (knee) could practice on Tuesday.
We'll see when we get back if he's available to practice tomorrow and we'll go from there," he said. Previously, Varejao was expected to practice Tuesday and return to action on Wednesday, so we'll bring owners any and all updates as they're provided.
