Sun Jan 6 201309:47Report: Cavs, Wolves discuss Varejao trade
The Cavaliers and Timberwolves have discussed a trade involving Anderson Varejao, according to Cavs writer Bob Finnan.
Varejao's name constantly appears in trade rumors, but this is sourced from a reliable beat writer. "Minnesota would probably want the Cavs to take back forward Derrick Williams, which could be a deal-breaker," Finnan writes. "The Cavs could have interest in center Nikola Pekovic ... Before anyone gets excited, forward Kevin Love is not available." There's nothing imminent to worry about here, but file this away for future reference. Varejao, meanwhile, is targeting a return on Wednesday from his lingering knee injury.

Sat Jan 5 201319:04Anderson Varejao expected to play Wednesday
Anderson Varejao is still expected to practice on Tuesday and return to action on Wednesday, according to Byron Scott.
The real test will be how Varejao's knee responds to full-speed practice, but it's great news that his target return date hasn't shifted. A return on Wednesday would still give him a three-game week, leaving fantasy owners to weigh their options carefully.

Fri Jan 4 201309:12Anderson Varejao had MRI on knee
Anderson Vaerjao had an MRI on his knee, and while the muscle is "healing," it is going to be a slow process.
The MRI showed that Varejao's muscle is healing and didn't show anything in regards to a torn quad despite a report out of Brazil that Varejao was dealing with that. Byron Scott said that Varejao's injury is "in a bad spot," and he's already been ruled out until at least Wednesday. Tyler Zeller will continue to start in Varejao's absence.

Thu Jan 3 201316:05Varejao (knee) out until at least Wednesday
Anderson Varejao (knee) will remain sidelined until at least next Wednesday.
Byron Scott said that Varejao needs to practice before returning, and the Cavs won't practice again until Tuesday. Meanwhile, it should be noted that there have been reports out of Brazil that Varejao is dealing with a torn quad, though Scott has denied those reports. We're inclined to take the coach at his word, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Cavs play it cautious and keep Varejao sidelined beyond next Wednesday. Tyler Zeller (11.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 blocks as a starter) will continue starting in Varejao's place.

Anderson Varejao (knee) will not play on Wednesday.
Andy V's owners are getting impatient waiting for his knee to heal, but he's out again on Wednesday. As has been the case, Tyler Zeller will continue to start in place of Varejao. Daniel Gibson (concussion) is also out.

Mon Dec 31 201216:54Anderson Varejao (knee) very iffy for Wed.
Anderson Varejao (bruised knee) participated in non-contact drills on Monday, but he remains "highly questionable" to play on Wednesday.
"He looked decent today. He was moving OK," said Byron Scott. "He still says when he plants to jump is when he feels pain, but it's nowhere near as severe as it was four or five days ago." We'll have another update after Tuesday's practice, but the Cavs will probably play it safe with their prized big man.

Fri Dec 28 201219:59Amico relates story about Varejao's knee
Beat writer Sam Amico shared a discussion he had with a doctor about Anderson Varejao's knee contusion, saying the injury wasn't serious.
"Doctor tells me knee contusion like Andy Varejao's isn't serious, but can be if not rested properly & understands why Cavs playing it safe," Amico tweeted. It's speculation by nature, but Amico is in a good position to know what's going on, and owners can take it for what it's worth. Varejao is expected to miss another week of action and is targeting Jan. 4 against the Bobcats as his earliest possible return.

Fri Dec 28 201219:00Anderson Varejao expects to miss next week
Anderson Varejao says his knee is improving, but he expects to miss another week.
Varejao was already ruled out through the weekend and is now looking at Jan. 4 against the Bobcats as the earliest possible return. Tyler Zeller, who has produced solid numbers in Varejao's absence, and Tristan Thompson are the biggest beneficiaries as long as Varejao remains sidelined.

Fri Dec 28 201211:30Anderson Varejao (knee) ruled out for weekend
Updating a previous item, Anderson Varejao has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Hawks, and he will not play at all this weekend.
Varejao's availability was supposed to be determined at shootaround, but it's clear his knee contusion is a little more serious than the team had initially let on. Varejao will not play on Saturday against the Nets either, meaning the earliest he could return is January 2 against the Kings. Tyler Zeller will continue to start and is averaging 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 1.0 blocks on 40.4 percent shooting as a member of the starting lineup. Tristan Thompson, who has played well in Varejao's absence, also gets a boost.

Fri Dec 28 201209:47Anderson Varejao's status up in air Friday
Anderson Varejao (knee), who has missed four straight games, will test his knee at shootaround on Friday.
Varejao could be a game-time decision, but the Cavs want to see how he looks in shootaround before making a determination on his availability. Owners have no choice but to check back for an update. Tyler Zeller would draw another start if Varejao sits, with Tristan Thompson also getting a boost.

Tue Dec 25 201219:23Anderson Varejao ruled out for Wednesday
Anderson Varejao will not travel with the Cavs to Washington for Wednesday's game due to his lingering right knee contusion.
Tristan Thompson should have another solid game and Tyler Zeller should get another start. Early reports were that Varejao would be ready for tomorrow's game, so this is quite disappointing news for his owners. Maybe he'll be ready to go against the Hawks in Cleveland on Friday.

Anderson Varejao (knee) is expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday vs. the Wizards.
Varejao will have missed a week of action if he returns on Wednesday. Owners are salivating for Varejao to get back on the floor as he's averaging a ridiculous 14.1 points, 14.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.6 blocks on 47.8 percent shooting.

Sat Dec 22 201210:34Anderson Varejao won't play Saturday night
Anderson Varejao (knee) didn't travel with the Cavs and won't play Saturday against the Bucks.
Varejao was unlikely to play in the first place, so it's no surprise the Cavs left him behind in Cleveland. With no game after Saturday until Wednesday, Byron Scott is likely being careful with his top big man. Check back early next week to see how Varejao's knee responded to the rest. Tyler Zeller will start again against the Bucks.

Fri Dec 21 201218:41Anderson Varejao out Friday against Pacers
Anderson Varejao (knee) will not play Friday against the Pacers and is likely out Saturday vs. the Bucks.
Byron Scott said earlier Friday that he was considering holding out Varejao for the entire weekend, regardless of whether doctors cleared him. Check back Saturday afternoon for official word after shootaround. Tyler Zeller, who scored 20 points in place of Varejao on Wednesday, will likely start as long as the Brazilian is out.

Fri Dec 21 201211:26Anderson Varejao unlikely to play on Friday
Anderson Varejao (knee) is unlikely to play on Friday, but a final decision will be made closer to tipoff.
Varejao did not play on Wednesday, and if Byron Scott thinks Varejao is unlikely to play at shootaround, he'd need a pretty miraculous showing in pregame warmups to convince the training staff he should play. Owners will have to check back for an update, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him sit again. Tyler Zeller, who scored 20 points in Varejao's place Wednesday, would draw another start.

Wed Dec 19 201218:42Anderson Varejao will not play Wednesday
Anderson Varejao (right knee) won't play Wednesday night against the Celtics.
Varejao played through the injury Tuesday, but it appears the pain was too much for the second half of a back-to-back. Rookie big man Tyler Zeller will get the start and a big bump in his short-term value Wednesday night.

Wed Dec 19 201211:40Varejao, Gibson game-time calls Wednesday
Anderson Vaerjao (knee) and Daniel Gibson (ankle) are game-time decisions on Wednesday vs. the Celtics.
Varejao was able to play through his right knee contusion on Tuesday to the tune of 22 points and 10 rebounds, but owners will have to check back for confirmation that he'll play. Gibson isn't much of a fantasy option for owners in standard formats with Dion Waiters and C.J. Miles soaking up playing time at shooting guard and a healthy Kyrie Irving.

Tue Dec 18 201222:01Varejao double-doubles after knee scare
Anderson Varejao fought off a right knee contusion to rack up 22 points, 10 rebounds, a steal and a block on 5-of-12 shooting in Tuesday's loss to the Raptors.
Varejao went to the locker room with the injury, but was able to return and play through it. He's banged up and has a shaky injury history, but has proven to be a warrior this season.
