Mon Mar 17 201400:24Anderson Varejao grabs 12 rebounds off pine
Anderson Varejao grabbed 12 rebounds on Sunday for his first double-digit game since returning to action in mid-March, but he added only two points and one steal in 19 minutes.
Varejao's boards were nice and he played well during his limited stints. Fantasy owners should leave him on the scrap heap, however, since Spencer Hawes is playing well as a starter and the Cavs are determined to limit AV's playing time.

Thu Mar 13 201400:57Varejao quiet in his 15 minutes on Wed
Anderson Varejao was quiet in 15 minutes of action on Wednesday, scoring six points on 3-of-7 shooting with seven rebounds.
Varejao was set to play 15 minutes heading into tonight and the Cavs kept him exactly at that mark. Until he shows he can stay on the court for longer stretches owners can watch this action from the wire in most standard formats.

Tue Mar 11 201410:51Anderson Varejao will see minutes increase
Anderson Varejao (back) will see his minutes slowly increase going forward.
Varejao played just nine minutes in his first game action in a month Saturday night, but will see his minutes trend upward as he gets into game shape. "We will gradually increase his minutes," coach Mike Brown said. "We haven't talked about what his minutes restriction will be come Wednesday night. We'll keep evaluating it." With Spencer Hawes playing strong ball as of late, Varejao will struggle to approach his 32.7 minute average from January, but he can still help owners in deeper leagues who are in desperate need of rebounds and blocks.

Sat Mar 8 201423:06Anderson Varejao plays nine minutes in return
Anderson Varejao played nine minutes in his return to the lineup on Saturday with four points and three rebounds against the Knicks.
He missed 11 games due to his back injury and he obviously isn't all the way back yet. Varejao wasn't his usual active self and he seemed apprehensive on chasing down rebounds tonight. The Cavs seem like they're going to give Spencer Hawes the lion's share of the minutes at center. Fantasy owners can probably leave AV on the wire in most cases since he's going to be rusty for a week or two.

Sat Mar 8 201418:08Anderson Varejao (back) likely to return Sat.
Anderson Varejao (back) is likely to play limited minutes on Saturday.
Varejao may only play one stint as the Cavs' priority is avoiding any setbacks. Mike Brown has already said that he intends to keep Spencer Hawes in the starting lineup, further limiting Varejao's rest-of-season upside, but he should at least provide solid rebounds and a handful of high-percentage points once his conditioning returns.

Thu Mar 6 201415:37Anderson Varejao (back) to miss 12th straight
Anderson Varejao (back) will miss his 12th consecutive game on Friday.
Varejao isn't even traveling with the Cavaliers to Charlotte and his status for Saturday's game is very much in doubt. The Cavs have been tight-lipped about Varejao's injury and they continue to list him as day-to-day, but his lengthy absence may be part of the reason they traded for new starting center Spencer Hawes.

Wed Mar 5 201414:52Anderson Varejao (knee) not likely for Friday
Anderson Varejao (knee) didn't sound optimistic on playing in Friday's game against the Bobcats.
He said he didn't know if he can even take on contact for Thursday's practice and there is no plan on him getting into the game on Friday. Varejao added that he would love to play, but did seem a bit somber in the interview. We'd consider him doubtful for Friday especially with the Cavs playing a back-to-back against the Knicks on Saturday.

Tue Mar 4 201417:28Anderson Varejao (back) will not play Tuesday
Anderson Varejao (back) will not play on Tuesday.
He was already considered doubtful so this shouldn't take anyone by surprise, and it means Spencer Hawes will continue to hold down the center spot with help from backup Tyler Zeller. Varejao has been slowly increasing his activity this week and should be considered questionable for Friday's road game in Charlotte.

Tue Mar 4 201409:55Anderson Varejao likely out again Tuesday
Anderson Varejao (back) will most likely miss Tuesday's game against the Spurs.
When asked if there was a chance that Varejao would play, Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said, "Slim. Slim chance. Most likely not, but we'll see." Varejao has missed 10 games with his back injury and will return to a frontcourt that now includes Spencer Hawes. Mike Brown has said that Hawes will likely remain in the starting lineup, so Varejao's owners should expect a dip in his production when he does return.

Mon Mar 3 201413:32Anderson Varejao (back) doubtful for Tuesday
Anderson Varejao (back) is not expected to play in Tuesday's game vs. the Spurs.
He was on the court again during Monday's practice but his ailing back is still too painful for a return. Spencer Hawes has been playing well as the Cavs' starting center, and coach Mike Brown has continually praised his shooting range and passing, so the Cavs are even more likely to protect Varejao with a limited bench role when he does return.

Sat Mar 1 201409:39Anderson Varejao (back) hopes to go next week
Anderson Varejao (back) expects to return to action next week.
"I feel like I'm close," said Varejao. "I'm not going to be 100 percent, but if I wait for that, I'll have to wait until summer. But if everything goes the way I think it will, I'll be back next week." Those quotes aren't very encouraging and even if he does return he's likely to play limited minutes behind starting center Spencer Hawes. He's worth a look if you need rebounds and a few points, steals and blocks, but don't expect any miracles.

Fri Feb 28 201412:21Varejao, Waiters, Miles are out once again
Anderson Varejao (back), Dion Waiters (knee) and C.J. Miles (ankle) are all out for Friday's game against the Jazz.
Varejao and Waiters did participate in portions of the morning shootaround, so they're making progress. They're just not quite ready yet. It leaves the Cavs bench very thin once again, meaning we can project heavy minutes for the starting five of Kyrie Irving, Jarrett Jack, Luol deng, Tristan Thompson and Spencer Hawes. There's been speculation in Cleveland that Varejao will not get his starting job back once he's healed.

Wed Feb 26 201404:23Varejao, Waiters have begun on-court work
Anderson Varejao (back) and Dion Waiters (knee) have begun on-court work but neither is traveling for Wednesday's game in Oklahoma City against the Thunder.
The new news here is that they're doing on-court work, though there isn't any word on what exactly that is for either guy. Nonetheless, it does move them past being simply 'out' and owners can update their plans accordingly. Varajeo's outlook has been dimmed by the acquisition of Spencer Hawes but it's not out of the question that he returns some late-round value if he can get healthy. Whether it's likely is very much up for debate.

Tue Feb 25 201417:41Anderson Varejao (back) doubtful for Wed.
Anderson Varejao (back) is unlikely to travel to Oklahoma City for Wednesday's game.
The Cavs have been very tight-lipped about the extent of Varejao's ailment, but he needed a steroid shot last week and Wednesday would mark his eighth consecutive DNP. The acquisition of Spencer Hawes has already taken the shine of Varejao's rest-of-season outlook and the Cavs have made it clear that they intend to limit his minutes whenever he returns to action. Plan accordingly.

Tue Feb 25 201412:21Anderson Varejao out Tuesday vs Toronto
Anderson Varejao (back) will miss Tuesday's game against the Raptors.
As if the Spencer Hawes acquisition wasn't bad enough for Varejao's owners, Tuesday will mark the seventh consecutive game that the big man has missed with back and knee ailments. Hawes and Tyler Zeller will continue to see more minutes with Varejao out and there is a good chance that Hawes may even find himself in a starting role for the Cavs as Zeller has been relatively ineffective over his last two games.

Sat Feb 22 201415:45Anderson Varejao still out for Sunday night
Anderson Varejao (knee, back) did some on-court shooting at Saturday's practice but will not play on Sunday.
He was not a full participant and was wearing a wrap around his knee at practice, so that might be the main issue keeping him from getting back on the court. Varejao's back isn't 100 percent either and it could be a few more games before he's ready to go. Spencer Hawes should be useful off the bench while Tyler Zeller has been mediocre in the starting lineup.

Thu Feb 20 201417:19Varejao, Dion Waiters, Miles all out Friday
Anderson Varejao (back), Dion Waiters (knee) and C.J. Miles (ankle) are all out for Friday's game against the Raptors.
The trio did not even travel to Toronto. Varejao's balky back is perhaps the biggest concern, especially when coupled with Thursday's acquisition of Spencer Hawes. His arrow is pointing down. Look for a starting five of Kyrie Irving, Jarrett Jack, Luol Deng, Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller (or Hawes).

Thu Feb 20 201411:10Anderson Varejao has coritsone injection
Anderson Varejao received a cortisone injection in his back on Wednesday.
The Cavs appear to be concerned about Varejao's back, which has kept him out since Feb. 9, and likely prompted the team to trade for Spencer Hawes on Thursday. If Varejao's going to be injured for a while, Hawes will step right into a starting role for his new team.

Wed Feb 19 201412:19Anderson Varjeao (back) out again Wednesday
Anderson Varejao's sore back will prevent him from playing on Wednesday.
Varejao hasn't played since Feb. 9 and there are no guarantees that he'll be ready for Friday's road game, or even Sunday's home game vs. the Wizards. Tyler Zeller will continue to start in his absence on Wednesday as the Cavs attempt to stretch their win streak to six games.
