Mon Aug 22 201118:23Furcal (thumb) expects to return Tuesday
Rafael Furcal (thumb) expects to return to the Cardinals' starting lineup Tuesday.
Furcal is out of the lineup for the second straight day Monday after tripping over a rope at Wrigley Field on Saturday. X-rays on the thumb came back negative, but the veteran shortstop is apparently having issues throwing. Daniel Descalso will start in his place again Monday.

Sun Aug 21 201121:24Furcal (sprained thumb) misses Sunday's game
Rafael Furcal (sprained thumb) was out of Sunday night's lineup against the Cubs.
Furcal tripped over a rope at Wrigley Field Saturday and sprained his thumb trying to brace his fall. X-Rays were negative. He broke his left thumb and missed six weeks earlier this year and also missed a month with a strained oblique. Furcal has posted an anemic .204/.275/.284 line in 211 at-bats. Daniel Descalso got the call at shortstop on Sunday, batting eighth, with Furcal sidelined. It is not yet known how much time the veteran shortstop will miss.

Sun Aug 21 201117:15Furcal sprains thumb in freak fall at Wrigley
Rafael Furcal tripped over a rope at Wrigley Field Sunday and sprained his thumb trying to brace his fall.
It's a sequence that pretty much sums up the Cardinals' season. The team doesn't play until 8:00 ET tonight, so we'll know the injury is serious if Furcal is scratched when lineups get released within the next few hours.

Wed Aug 10 201123:15Furcal doubles in loss
Rafael Furcal doubled and scored a run in St. Louis' loss to the Brewers on Wednesday.
Furcal is now batting .233 through his first 43 at-bats in a Cardinals uniform. He should remain firmly affixed to your bench in mixed leagues for the time being.

Wed Aug 3 201117:21Rafael Furcal homers, drives in four
Rafael Furcal went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, a sac fly and a walk on Wednesday.
He drove in four of the Cardinals' five runs in the loss to the Brewers. Furcal had previously gone 2-for-11 in three games with St. Louis. He still appears to be a ways off from being a useful mixed-league shortstop.

Sat Jul 30 201122:17Rafael Furcal approves trade to Cardinals
Rafael Furcal has approved a trade to the Cardinals.
There's still no word on what the Dodgers' return package will look like, but Furcal has OK'd the trade and it should be made official by Sunday morning. The veteran shortstop has struggled mightily this season while battling a range of injuries, but he's a major upgrade defensively over Ryan Theriot and should bat leadoff most days for the Redbirds.

Sat Jul 30 201119:57Furcal expected to approve trade to Cardinals
Rafael Furcal is expected to approve a trade to St. Louis by Sunday, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman.
Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com reported earlier in the day that a trade had been completed, though we still don't know the particulars of the deal. The 33-year-old Furcal is batting under .200 for the season but sports a .303 mark (10-for-33) over his past nine games and has a .425 OBP over that span. He would also be a big defensive upgrade over Ryan Theriot.

Sat Jul 30 201113:06Report: Rafael Furcal open to Cards
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Rafael Furcal is willing to waive his no-trade clause in order to be dealt to the Cardinals.
Goold says the two sides are "still talking" to try to work out a fit. Furcal is hitting under .200 this season but has swung the bat much better of late and would be a big defensive upgrade over Ryan Theriot at shortstop.

Sat Jul 30 201110:36Report: Furcal to Cards no lock
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal has backed up previous reports that the Cardinals are indeed after Rafael Furcal, but he says a trade is "not a lock to happen."
Rosenthal notes that the Cards view Furcal as a potential leadoff man and big defensive upgrade to Ryan Theriot at shortstop. The Diamondbacks are another team that's interested in the Dodgers' shortstop, with Rosenthal previously reporting that the Brewers are out of the running.

Sat Jul 30 201110:01Report: Brewers 'cool' on Furcal, Carroll
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Brewers are "cool" on the Dodgers' Rafael Furcal and Jamey Carroll.
The Brewers have been searching for middle infield help for a while now, but Rosenthal says they're now focused on a utility infielder/outfielder type. Furcal might wind up with the division rival Cardinals, who are seeking an upgrade at shortstop.

Fri Jul 29 201121:53Report: Cards talked to Dodgers about Furcal
According to Matthew Leach of MLB.com, the Cardinals have had conversations with the Dodgers about shortstop Rafael Furcal.
Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported earlier in the evening Friday that shortstop was a priority for the Cardinals, so Furcal makes some sense here. The 33-year-old is batting just .195 this season, but has played much better of late. The Dodgers would likely have to cover a significant portion of the roughly $4.8 million left on Furcal's contract to get a deal done, though.

Sun Jul 3 201117:37Furcal to be activated, Blake head for DL?
Dodgers beat writer Ken Gurnick reports that Rafael Furcal (oblique) will come off the disabled list before Sunday's game.
What's interesting is that Gurnick is suggesting that Casey Blake will be placed on the disabled list to open up a spot for Furcal. We hadn't heard of a Blake injury prior to Gurnick's report, so it's hard to know what exactly is going on. If Blake is indeed hurt and placed on the DL, the Dodgers will need to find time for both Furcal and Dee Gordon.

The 33-year-old shortstop has been sidelined for nearly a month with an oblique injury. The Dodgers briefly discussed moving Furcal to second base, but now Dee Gordon is expected to be sent back to the minor leagues.
