Tue Feb 17 201512:41Swisher (knee) cleared for full hitting
Swisher (knee) has been cleared for full hitting, and he is still going through a running program, mlb.com's Jordan Bastian reports.
Swisher underwent surgery on both knees toward the end of last season, and while he may be somewhat limited to start spring training, he expects to be ready for Opening Day. There should be some kind of bounce back from his disastrous 2014 campaign, but the 34-year-old veteran will only be eligible at first base in most leagues to start the season. There is a decent chance he regains outfield eligibility, as he figures to see most of his playing time as a designated hitter or right fielder.

Swisher (knee) has been cleared to resume running and plans to be ready by Opening Day, the MLB.com reports.
Swisher underwent surgery on both knees toward the end of the 2014 season, and while he was initially expected to be fully healthy by the start of spring training, the 34-year-old indicated that he'd rather play it safe than come back too soon. When he does return, Swisher could be in line to take over the starting job in right, but he could also see some playing time at first or as the DH.
Wed Dec 10 201416:22Nick Swisher: (Knee) Looking To Play RF In 2015
Swisher (knee) may profile as the Indians' starting right fielder in 2015, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.
With the offseason addition of Brandon Moss, there are some lineup issues to sort out in Cleveland. It sounds like manager Terry Francona does not necessarily view Swisher as the primary designated hitter, and Swisher thinks playing right field would be easier on his knees than playing first base. With Moss coming off hip surgery, it sounds like Moss will be the primary DH, with Carlos Santana handling the bulk of the first base duties, and Swisher playing right field as long as his body and performance hold up. Last season was a complete disaster for Swisher, as he slashed just .208/.278/.331 with eight home runs in 401 plate appearances, which is completely unacceptable from a player who is also a defensive liability. All told, he ended up having a negative 1.6 WAR in 2014, but just a year before he was able to post a 2.3 WAR, hitting 20-plus home runs for the ninth straight season. If he can come into camp with healthy knees, there is a chance that he could regain some of his past offensive utility, and the Indians will certainly give him that chance, as he still has two years and $30 million remaining on his contract. His disastrous 2014 campaign will mean that he costs nothing on draft day this season, but the questions surrounding the health of his knees make him a risky proposition entering his age-34 season.
Thu Sep 25 201411:17Swisher (knees) rejoined teammates Wednesday
Swisher (knees) rejoined his teammates Wednesday, and he expects to be ready for the start of spring training in February, the Associated Press reports.
The issues with both knees undoubtedly had an impact on Swisher's performance, as he tried to play through the pain and amassed a career-worst .208/.278/.331 line with just eight homers in 360 at-bats. He'll look to bounce back in Year 3 of a four-year, $56 million pact signed with Cleveland prior to the 2013 campaign.
Wed Aug 20 201417:37Nick Swisher: (Knee) To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
Swisher will undergo season-ending surgery on both knees Wednesday, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.
He will need 8-to-10 weeks to recover, and should be at full strength in time for spring training. This was perhaps Swisher's worst season in the big leagues, hitting just .208 with eight home runs and a career-worst .608 OPS. He'll likely go undrafted in standard leagues next year, and will probably be given just a part-time role going forward.

The Indians will provide a further update on Swisher's (knee) status Wednesday following an examination Tuesday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Swisher has struggled all season, hitting just .208 with eight homers, and has been on the DL twice with a knee injury.

Swisher (knee) will travel to Los Angeles on Tuesday to seek another opinion on his right knee, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Swisher, who hit the DL over the weekend, underwent an MRI on Monday and will seek a second opinion from the Dodgers' team doctor. He's been hampered by knee issues for much of the season, and it's possible surgery is in his future. On the season, Swisher is hitting .208/.278/.331 with 42 RBI in 360 at-bats.

Swisher (knee) and the Indians will seek further opinions on the injury before deciding on the next course of action, MLB.com reports. "With the ballclub's help and urging, he's going to get another opinion and we're trying to align that right now. When we have information that's solid -- and when and where and all that -- we will give it to you guys. I think they're in the process of trying to do that right now," manager Terry Francona said.
Swisher's been dealing with a couple of knee ailments for most of the season so may decide to just go under the knife and get it behind him though nothing is official yet. Expect the Indians to announce their next steps in the coming days.

Swisher (knee) will have an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of his injury, but manager Terry Francona doesn't believe it's a season-ending injury. "I don't think so," Francona said. "I think it's going to be something he's going to have to manage. And, when he feels good, he's going to have to continue to manage it. As you start to get, whether it's arthritic changes or with some wear and tear, he's going to have to take care of it. He's never had to deal with that before."
Despite Francona's sentiment, there's very little incentive for the Indians to hurry Swisher back. It would take a massive rally on their behalf and a collapse by the Tigers and/or Royals for them to have a chance at the playoffs.
Sun Aug 10 201411:14Swisher (knee) placed on 15-day disabled list Sunday
Swisher (knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday.
Swisher left Saturday's game with a recurrence of a right knee issue that plagued him earlier in the season. It appears the injury will cause him to take a second stint on the disabled list. He and David Murphy were both injured Saturday and subsequently placed on the disabled list Sunday, and will be replaced on the active roster by Tyler Holt and Zach Walters.
Sat Aug 9 201418:37Nick Swisher: Leaves Game With Knee Injury Saturday
Swisher left Saturday's game with a recurring right knee issue, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.
Swisher was on the disabled list in June because of a right knee problem and it appears it has shown up again. The extent to which his knee is bothering him hasn't been revealed yet, but it was bad enough for him to leave the game, and the team will likely shed some light on the situation in the coming days, but he seems an unlikely candidate for Sunday's game.
Wed Aug 6 201416:02Nick Swisher: (Wrist) Back In Action Wednesday
Swisher (wrist) is back in the lineup Wednesday in Cincinnati, manning left field and batting sixth in the order.
The Indians are playing in a National League park without use of the DH, meaning Swisher's presence in the lineup is an encouraging sign after back-to-back absences due to right wrist soreness.
Tue Aug 5 201417:09Swisher (wrist) remains out of lineup Tuesday versus Reds
Swisher (wrist) remains out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Reds, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Swisher is enduring a sore right wrist, which is expected to hold him to the pine again Wednesday. The Indians' current series transfers to Great American Ballpark that day through Thursday, which will contain him to a pinch appearance at best. With only one absence to date, though, a DL stint is likely not on the forefront of the organization's handling of Swisher's ailment.

Swisher (wrist) reported improvement Monday but remains day-to-day, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. "I feel like my strength's getting back. It's just tight in that area. It's nothing that we're going to push right now," Swisher said.
The Indians won't have use of the DH when they travel to Cincinnati for games Wednesday and Thursday and manager Terry Francona doesn't want to have a shorter bench than usual for the NL games. If Swisher doesn't show much improvement Tuesday and Wednesday a DL stint isn't out of the question.
Mon Aug 4 201415:19Swisher (wrist) out of lineup Monday against Reds
Swisher (wrist) is out of the lineup Monday against the Reds.
Swisher was removed from Sunday's tilt due to a sore right wrist, but not before failing to extend his hitting streak to seven contests. Despite the brief rally at the plate, his batting line on the season continues to hover just above the Mendoza Line (.212/.283/.339). Nevertheless, he'll yield DH duties to Chris Dickerson (knee), who is batting eighth in the order.
Sun Aug 3 201416:32Swisher exited Sunday's game with right wrist soreness
Swisher exited Sunday's game with right wrist soreness, Zack Meisel of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Swisher went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts before adding injury to insult. This latest ailment only further deflates a highly disappointing campaign for Swisher, who is batting .213 with eight homers and 42 RBI.
Tue Jul 22 201423:48Swisher has three hits, two runs vs. Twins
Nick Swisher went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in a win over the Twins on Tuesday.
Swisher swatted two singles and a ground-rule double on the evening, coming around to score two of the Indians' eight runs. That it was his first three-hit affair of the 2014 season speaks to the down year Swisher has had to this point. The Brohio native did come out of the gate fast in the second half, and perhaps the break was just what Swisher needed to get going in the right direction at the dish.

Tue Jul 22 201400:12Nick Swisher plays right field
Playing right field for the first time this season, Nick Swisher went 0-for-3 with a walk on Monday.
The Indians gave up some defense to get Yan Gomes into the lineup at DH tonight. Swisher to the outfield doesn't figure to become a frequent occurrence. Really, Swisher to the bench once in a while might be a better solution for Cleveland.

Fri Jul 11 201422:36Swisher homers in win over White Sox
Nick Swisher went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Friday's win over the White Sox.
Look who is finally showing some signs of life. Swisher has hit safely in seven straight games and has three home runs over his last five. Even with the recent hot streak, the 33-year-old is batting just .207/.289/.351 through 74 games this season.

Tue Jul 8 201422:08Swisher's homer helps Indians topple Yankees
Nick Swisher had one hit in four at-bats, but it was a two-run home run that gave the Indians the lead in Tuesday's win over the Yankees.
Swisher has now homered in back-to-back games, perhaps a sign things are starting to turn around. His sixth-inning, two-run home run off of Masahiro Tanaka gave the Indians a 4-3 lead, which they did not relinquish. Swisher's slash line remains a paltry .198/.286/.339. He has hit seven home runs and knocked in 32 runs.
