Jones-Drew (hand) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots after practicing in a limited fashion both Thursday and Friday, the Raiders' official site reports.
Coach Dennis Allen noted Friday that Jones-Drew "did a good job in practice today," though the running back's questionable designation suggests that his status will still need to be tracked in advance of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff. If he does suit up this weekend, Jones-Drew would represent a speculative play though, with Darren McFadden a candidate to remain part of the team's Week 3 rushing attack, along with Latavius Murray, to a lesser degree.
Thu Sep 18 201415:57Maurice Jones-Drew: (Hand) Returns To Practice
Jones-Drew (hand) returned to practice Thursday, CSNBayArea.com reports.
Sporting extra protection on his surgically-repaired right hand, Jones-Drew took part in individual drills during the portion of practice open the media Thursday. The activity represents Jones-Drew's first of any kind in practice since undergoing the procedure back on Sept. 8. Look for the team to provide clarification on his participation level later in the day, but Jones-Drew's ability to practice, even on a limited basis, bodes well for his chances of suiting up this Sunday against New England. If he play, Jones-Drew should carry the load for Oakland, despite totaling just 11 yards on nine carries in the regular season opener.
Wed Sep 17 201418:26Jones-Drew (hand) did not practice Wednesday
Jones-Drew (hand) did not practice Wednesday, but said he's doing everything he can to be able to play Sunday against the Patriots, Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Jones-Drew underwent a procedure on his hand last Monday and missed the team's Week 2 matchup against Houston as a result, and although he wasn't able to practice Wednesday, it sounds like he's holding out hope he can play Sunday against New England. The team will, of course, have the final say, and if Jones-Drew isn't able to get in at least one limited practice before the end of the week, Darren McFadden will likely be tasked with once again heading the Raiders' rushing attack.

Jones-Drew (hand) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans.
With Jones-Drew out, look for Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray to head the Raiders' Week 2 backfield. With that in mind, offensive coordinator Greg Olson suggested a scenario earlier this week in which the team would initially turn to McFadden, with Murray a candidate to rotate in as the game progresses.
Fri Sep 12 201418:09Jones-Drew (hand)
Jones-Drew (hand), who did not practice this week, is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans, the Raiders' official site reports.
While sfgate.com notes that Jones-Drew's right hand is swollen, coach Dennis Allen hasn't ruled Jones-Drew out for Sunday's contest, a 4:25 ET kickoff. In the event that Jones-Drew is out, or limited at all Sunday, Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray would be in line to lead the team's Week 2 rushing attack, but at this stage neither of the three backs represent a high-percentage play this week.

Jones-Drew (hand) did not practice Friday, CSN's Scott Bair reports.
We'll await confirmation of Jones-Drew's official status upon the release of the Raiders' Week 2 injury report, but the general expectation is that he is unlikely to suit up this weekend, a scenario that would set the stage for Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray to lead the team's rushing attack Sunday against the Texans.

The signs point to Jones-Drew (hand) not playing Sunday against the Texans, according to Steve Corkran of ibabuzz.com.
Though such an outcome has not been officially confirmed, it's a sentiment echoed by Vic Tafur of sfgate.com and CSN's Scott Bair, with Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray next up for carries in the event that Jones-Drew is sidelined. More on MJD's official status once the Raiders' Week 2 injury report is released, but at this stage it would be a surprise to see him take the field Sunday.

Though Scott Bair of csnbayarea.com suggests that he'd be surprised to see Jones-Drew (hand) suit up this week, the running back indicated that he still hopes to try to play Sunday against the Texans, ESPN.com reports.
That said, Jones-Drew acknowledges that he is unsure if he will gain clearance for the contest. Jones-Drew, who missed practice both Wednesday and Thursday, had a minor procedure on his right hand this week, which clouds his Week 2 status, and if he is out or limited at all this weekend, the Raiders' backfield would be in line to be led by Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray. In any case, we'll revisit MJD's status Friday, but those who had been leaning on him, will want want to line up alternate plans in advance of the Raiders' 4:25 ET kickoff Sunday.

Jones-Drew (hand) is highly unlikely to play this Sunday versus the Texans, after acknowledging he underwent a procedure on his right hand Wednesday, CSN Bay Area reports.
Jones-Drew missed a second straight practice Thursday, but was watching from the sidelines while wearing a bandage over his injured hand. While Jones-Drew has not yet been ruled out of Oakland's Week 2 game versus Houston, his visibly swollen hand makes it unlikely he'll play. Nonetheless, Jones-Drew is expected to return soon. For now, teammates Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray figure to carry the Raiders' load out of the backfield, with fullback Marcel Reece representing another option.
Thu Sep 11 201415:09Jones-Drew (hand) not at practice Thursday
Jones-Drew (hand) was not at practice Thursday, Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times reports.
We'll revisit Jones-Drew's status Friday, but if he is out, or limited at all Sunday against the Texans, Darren McFadden would presumably be in line for added Week 2 touches, with Latavius Murray and fullback Marcel Reece in the mix on that front as well.
Wed Sep 10 201419:44Jones-Drew
Jones-Drew, who underwent a procedure to address a hand injury, is day-to-day, per coach Dennis Allen, csnbayarea.com reports.
Jones-Drew didn't practice Wednesday, but the report suggests that he isn't expected to miss much time, if any, as a result of his hand issue. Next up for carries Sunday against the Texans, if Jones-Drew is out, or limited at all, are Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray, in that order.
Wed Sep 10 201416:28Maurice Jones-Drew: Undergoes Procedure On Hand
Jones-Drew underwent a procedure on his hand Monday but is not expected to miss much time, if any, Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area reports.
The team wasted little time in getting Jones-Drew under the knife, after he injured his hand in his Raiders regular-season debut. Ultimately, Jones-Drew's participation level in practice this week will determine his availability for this Sunday's game against the Texans, but if he ends up sitting, Darren McFadden will likely be tasked with handling primary rushing duties. Second-year back Latavius Murray would likely factor in as well, but Jones-Drew, who rushed for just 11 yards on nine carries against the Jets, does not appear in danger of missing an extended period.

Jones-Drew had nine carries for 11 rushing yards and two catches on three targets for 12 receiving yards Sunday against the Jets.
Jones-Drew was abysmal in his first start for the Raiders, although backup Darren McFadden wasn't much better either, gaining 15 rushing yards on four carries. It was a tough matchup against a stout Jets run defense, but it was a little disappointing he couldn't get much going through the air either. Up next is a Week 2 matchup against the Texans, who allowed 131 yards on the ground Sunday to the Redskins.

Jones-Drew had 45 yards and a touchdown on three carries in Friday's preseason game against the Packers.
It was a short night for Jones-Drew, who took his third carry for a 40-yard touchdown, and then gave way to Darren McFadden. MJD has left no questions regarding who will be the Week 1 starter, and he also figures to handle the vast majority of third-down work. McFadden may be more of a threat at the goal line, but their respective track records indicate that MJD should also get most of those touches. Rejuvenated or not, Jones-Drew will probably be held back by what figures to be a poor offense. Of course, that should hurt him less than McFadden, as Jones-Drew can at least pile up some receptions if the Raiders spend most of the season playing catch-up. Then again, with Marcel Reece still around, Jones-Drew's ceiling for receptions isn't all that high.

Jones-Drew suffered a finger injury in Friday's preseason game against the Lions, ESPN.com reports.
The 29-year-old left early in the second quarter and did not return, but the team has yet to elaborate on severity of the injury. Jones-Drew got the start for the Raiders and totaled 12 yards on six carries, with just three of those carries going for positive yardage, but he did haul in a 22-yard catch. If Jones-Drew is forced to miss practice time, Darren McFadden would presumably see most of the first-team work, though Latavius Murray could see some reps as well.

Jones-Drew gained 12 yards on six carries and 22 yards on one reception in Friday's preseason game against the Lions.
The Raiders played things the same as last week, as Jones-Drew started while Darren McFadden also saw significant playing time with the first-team offense. McFadden got three consecutive goal-line carries and scored a touchdown, which may have created a mini-panic among those who have already drafted MJD. It's unwise to assume that McFadden will dominate the goal-line touches, but it's a possibility that should be considered, at least for the time being. Hopefully someone from the Raiders will comment on the situation soon.

Jones-Drew gained 10 yards on two carries and 14 yards on two receptions in Friday's preseason opener versus the Vikings.
As expected, Jones-Drew got the start and played the first two drives, before handing things over to Darren McFadden, who rushed for 23 yards on his only carry. Jones-Drew is listed atop the depth chart and is seemingly in line to start, but the first-team practice reps have reportedly been divided. As pretty much anyone could have guessed, the Raiders will likely go with a timeshare between the two veterans.

Jones-Drew is listed as the Raiders' first-team running back ahead of Darren McFadden on the team's initial depth chart in advance of the squad's preseason opener, ibabuzz.com reports.
Someone has to be listed atop the depth chart, but the report notes that the two have split practice reps fairly evenly through training camp, a reality that does nothing to discourage the notion that a time-share is brewing in the Oakland backfield.
Sat Jul 26 201413:17Jones-Drew returning punts during practice
Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew was one of five players to field punts during the opening practice of training camp.
"We're going into this camp with an open mind, to find players that can help us in every phase," said coach Dennis Allen. "That's a spot were Maurice can potentially help us, and I want to take a look at it." Jones-Drew was also asked to return punts at times during the offseason program. The Raiders are presumably looking for anyway to spark their offense, but putting an aging player with MJD's injury history back to return punts is a bad decision.

Wed Jul 23 201422:50Jones-Drew expected to start
The San Francisco Chronicle's Vic Tafur expects Maurice Jones-Drew to be the Raiders' No. 1 running back this season.
As do we, despite other beat writers' speculation Darren McFadden would get the nod. MJD is simply a superior between-the-tackles runner to DMC, and a better pass protector as well. Still, the Raiders are expected to utilize a committee approach. Jones-Drew should be viewed as an RB3/flex in fantasy leagues.
