General manager Terry Ryan indicated Thursday that Hughes (hip) isn't really an issue and he's expected to make his next start Monday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Hughes exited Wednesday's game after just five innings and a lower than usual pitch count due to the hip flexor strain, but the issue appears to be minor. Assuming no setbacks occur when he throws his bullpen session, he should toe the rubber as scheduled Monday.
Wed Apr 29 201517:52Phil Hughes: (Hip) Hopes To Make Next Start
Hughes (hip) plans to throw his regularly scheduled bullpen session this week and is hopeful he will be able to make his next start, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
He left Wednesday's game after five innings with a left hip flexor strain. Hughes said his hip gradually got stiffer throughout the start, saying the discomfort was not terrible, he just didn't want it to fester. Continue to monitor his status throughout the rest of the week, and consider him questionable for Monday's start against the A's.

Hughes left Wednesday's game against Detroit after five innings due to a left hip flexor strain, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Hughes gave up three runs with four strikeouts before departing.
Hughes left with a 7-3 lead, but the bullpen promptly gave up four runs ensuring he won't get his first win of the season. Hughes has a 4.55 ERA, but hasn't much help from his defense and has a 30:2 K:BB ratio in 36.2 innings, so he should finally get some wins if this injury isn't serious.

Hughes allowed two runs on six hits and no walks Friday with nine strikeouts in a complete-game loss at the Mariners.
Hughes pitched well, aside from two elevated offerings that resulted in solo homers. Those were the difference in the game, as the Twins provided no run support. Hughes again showed superb control, throwing an impressive 72 of his 96 pitches for strikes, but he's now allowed six home runs in 26.2 innings this season.

Hughes dropped to 0-3 on the season Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk over 6.2 innings, striking out three.
Last year's excellent HR/9 rate hasn't carried over into 2015 yet, and Hughes has now been touched up for four home runs in his first 18.2 innings on the season. His control is still excellent, but he'll need to do a better job of keeping the ball in the park if he wants to start shaving down his 5.30 ERA.

Hughes gave up three runs with four strikeouts and no walks over six innings, but fell to 0-2 in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.
Hughes wasn't helped by his defense which dropped two popups and made a three-base error on a fly ball. The misplays didn't cost Hughes any runs, but he had to throw extra pitches as a result. Minnesota's poor outfield defense may continue to be a problem for Hughes and the Minnesota starters.

Hughes was hurt by the long ball in his Opening Day start Monday, allowing four runs over six innings against the Detroit Tigers.
Hughes surrendered home runs to both J.D. Martinez and Alex Avila in the second inning and was unable to recover from that. After posting a 5.28 ERA this spring, Hughes will look to rebound from a rough start against the White Sox this weekend.

Hughes gave up one run over four innings in Wednesday's spring start on four hits, two walks and five strikeouts. He finished the spring with a 5.28 ERA, but 15:7 K:BB ratio.
Hughes is set at the top of Minnesota's rotation and Opening Day starter, so his spring numbers are probably meaningless. He looked good in his last outing and looks set for the regular season.

Hughes was named Minnesota's Opening Day starter by manager Paul Molitor, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Mon Dec 22 201409:24Hughes has agreed to three-year
Hughes has agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract extension with Minnesota, the New York Daily News reports.
The contract will replace the two years and $16 million remaining on his contract to in effect give him a five-year, $58 million deal. Hughes set a major league record for strikeout-to-walk ratio (11.63) in his first season in Minnesota while going 16-10 with a 3.52 ERA.

Hughes finished the 2014 season on a high note, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with five strikeouts in eight innings Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
In an under-the-radar impeccable 2014 campaign, Hughes set a major league record for strikeout-to-walk ratio (11.63), and he actually had as many wins as walks (16) over 209.2 innings, which is a mind-boggling stat. Not only did he walk as many guys in the season as some pitchers do in a month, but he combined his superb control with 186 strikeouts, showcasing his ability to still miss bats while living in the strike zone. Hughes came at a bargain on draft day this season, but look for him to be treated as at least a solid No. 3 fantasy starter going into next season.

Hughes allowed four runs on 10 hits, he did not walk a batter and struck out five over seven innings but came away with a no-decision in the Twins' 5-4 win over Cleveland in 10 innings Friday night.
Hughes was, as he has all season, throwing strikes (68 of 90 pitches), but as sometimes happens, he missed in the zone a little too often leading to four runs, and a no-decision. He's walked just one batter in his last seven starts, and he'll carry a very respectable 3.61 ERA as he goes for his 16th win against Arizona in his final 2014 start.
Fri Sep 12 201416:37Friday's game against White Sox postponed due to rain
Friday's game against the White Sox has been postponed due to rain, LaVelle Neal of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
As a result, both Hughes and Jose Quintana will be moved back to start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, with Logan Darnell to follow for the Twins in the nightcap. Trevor May will still start Sunday, meaning Tommy Milone now goes Monday.

Hughes allowed three runs and seven hits while striking out eight in seven innings Saturday against the Angels.
Hughes gave up a run in each of the first three innings before settling down and pitching four scoreless innings. He left the game with a two run lead, but the Minnesota bullpen failed to hold the lead, giving up five runs in the final two innings. Nonetheless, Huges is having an excellent season, with 15 wins, a 3.55 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP and a very impressive 165:15 K:BB ratio. His 165 strikeouts tie his career best when he was with the Yankees in 2012.

Hughes was terrific Monday afternoon, tossing eight innings of three-run ballall unearnedagainst the Orioles.
Hughes allowed a home run to Nick Hundley, but Trevor Plouffe's error prevented it from counting against Hughes. The former Yankee has enjoyed his time in Minnesota, going 15-9 with a 3.54 ERA. He'll see the Angels his next time out.

Hughes allowed four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts over 7.2 innings Wednesday in a 6-1 loss to the Royals.
Hughes had given up only two hits heading into the seventh inning with a 1-0 lead. A couple well-placed singles, a stolen base, a bunt and two runs later Hughes was pulled from the game, then the bullpen surrendered two inherited runner, plus two more runs. It ends a streak of four starts in a row for the right-hander allowing one run or fewer. Hughes takes the mound again Monday in Baltimore.

Hughes pitched six innings, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk, while striking out nine batters in picking up his 11th win (11-8) of the year in Tuesday's victory over the Padres.
Hughes has not been one for consistency of late, having posted just four quality outings in his last ten starts. However, for the most part Hughes has been solid this year with a 4.01 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a fantastic 127:14 K:BB ratio in 143.2 innings pitched this season. Hughes is scheduled to make his next start Sunday on the road against the A's.
