Pirela had his contract purchased and was added to the Yankee's active roster Tuesday.

The move to bring up Pirela comes on the heels of Martin Prado (abdomen) hitting the 60-day DL after an emergency appendectomy Tuesday morning. The 24-year-old Pirela slashed a solid .305/.351/.441 at Triple-A Scranton in 2014 and was on track to become a minor league free agent after the season. It's unclear what Pirela's role with the Yankees will be down the stretch, but with the team nearly out of contention, it wouldn't be a surprise if he gets a start or two.
