Phillips was in the lineup Monday and tried to play through the pain but left after the sixth. He was scratched from the lineup Tuesday and didn't play. Manager Bryan Price said Wednesday, "(He's) not better enough. If I run him out there for nine more innings, it's not going to be better tomorrow. (He'll) get some treatment again today and hopefully (be) quite a bit better tomorrow. I think if it was up to him, he would play. I think it's going to be a lingering issue if we don't give him some time to rest up."

Phillips rolled the ankle Sunday at Milwaukee when he made a sliding attempt to catch a foul ball and the ankle went beneath the padding against the stands. Manager Bryan Price said Phillips wanted to stay in the game Monday but was talked into coming out. "I didn't want to stay in there, and it might be a play that cost us the game," Phillips said. "I'm going to try again tomorrow. I'm not going to rule anything out. Try again tomorrow, see what happens. Hopefully I can play another seven." Phillips is 7-for-18 during his current five-game hitting streak. A right-handed hitter, Phillips said his left ankle is integral to his approach. "I hit off my front toe, and it's kind of hard to do that," Phillips said. "I've been feeling pretty good lately and it always (stinks) -- just when you start feeling good and you injure yourself. Just see what happens tomorrow."
