Sun Jan 27 201315:31Brewers considering Kyle Lohse?
Brewers owner Mark Attanasio said "there's always a chance" the team could pursue Kyle Lohse.
"There's always a chance," Attanasio said. "Again, it's a function of size of contract, length of contract. Kyle had a phenomenal two seasons the last two seasons. We just have to see if that fits in our overall scheme." Milwaukee could use some rotation help, and they're one of likely a number of teams that would consider Lohse if his price falls far enough. Interest in Lohse has been sparse this spring despite the fact that he posted a 2.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 211 innings last season.

Thu Jan 24 201312:05Texas not pursuing Kyle Lohse, Michael Bourn
MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan was told Thursday that the Rangers aren't pursuing Kyle Lohse or Michael Bourn.
The Rangers have been linked recently to both, but there are no current negotiations and no plans to start any. Lohse hasn't been given a single offer this winter despite posting a 2.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 211 innings last year for the Cardinals. And Bourn's case is pretty similar. They're both tied to draft pick compensation.

Sun Jan 13 201315:44Teams unwilling to give Lohse more than 2 yrs
The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo hears that teams have "not wanted to go much beyond two years" for Kyle Lohse.
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported earlier this month that Kyle Lohse had yet to receive a single formal offer this winter. Not only is the length of contract an apparent concern for teams considering Lohse, but they also don't want to have to give up a draft pick to sign him. Cafardo lists the Mariners, Tigers, Orioles, Royals, Twins, Brewers, Pirates, and Rockies as "potential spots" for the right-hander.

Sat Jan 12 201321:03Angels not expected to pursue Kyle Lohse
According to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com, the Angels are not expected to pursue free agent starter Kyle Lohse.
Gonzalez notes that the Angels payroll is currently maxed out at $160 million, and that the Halos rotation is currently set. There is also concern within the organization on how Lohse would hold up in the American League. Despire going 16-3 with a 2.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with the Cardinals in 2012, Lohse has not received an offer this winter.

Fri Jan 4 201309:30Kyle Lohse hasn't received any offers
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes that Kyle Lohse "has fielded interest but not yet received an offer."
Goold adds that "at least one" team interested in Lohse "pulled back" because signing the right-hander meant they would lose the suggested bonus associated with their first-round pick. They also, of course, would lose the actual pick, but it sounds like some teams are valuing their draft pool allowance even more. The Mariners and Dodgers are two clubs that appear to have interest in Lohse.

Thu Jan 3 201319:58Mariners want a starter
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Mariners are looking at starters but feel that Kyle Lohse is "too pricey" and are hesitant to give Joe Saunders three years.
They could be hoping that Lohse's price drops even more, as it's looking like the free agent right-hander won't get as much as it looked like he would earlier this winter. The M's are looking for a replacement for Jason Vargas, who they shipped to the Angels last month in the Kendrys Morales deal.

Thu Jan 3 201310:23Lohse hasn't talked to Cards GM in 3-4 months
Kyle Lohse said Thursday morning that he hasn't spoken to Cardinals GM John Mozeliak in "three or four months."
In other words, the free agent right-hander is highly doubtful to return to St. Louis in 2013 no matter how low his asking price goes this winter. Lohse registered a spectacular 2.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 211 innings (33 starts) last season, but his market is being weighed down by the new draft pick compensation system.

Sun Dec 30 201210:19Dodgers could go after Kyle Lohse
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Dodgers could pursue Kyle Lohse even with their abundance of starting pitching.
If Chad Billingsley (elbow) and Ted Lilly (shoulder) are healthy, the Dodgers will have eight viable options for their rotation. They're trying to trim some of the excess by dealing one (or both) of Chris Capuano or Aaron Harang, but Cafardo apparently believes they could still go after Lohse. It doesn't pass the smell test, but we can't put anything past the Dodgers at this point.

Sat Dec 8 201208:31Boston interested in Lohse on three-year deal
ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes writes that the Red Sox "would be expected to jump in" on Kyle Lohse if he were willing to accept a three-year contract.
Lohse is seeking a four-year deal in free agency, but there's a perception that he'll struggle to succeed outside of St. Louis, and he may ultimately have to settle for less. The 34-year-old right-hander posted a 2.86 ERA over 211 innings last season and has been connected to the Angels, Tigers, and Dodgers, in addition to the Red Sox.

Tue Dec 4 201210:51Report: Red Sox interested in Kyle Lohse
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox are interested in free agent right-hander Kyle Lohse.
The Red Sox are taking care of their offense first, but they like Lohse as a cheaper alternative than Anibal Sanchez. The 34-year-old right-hander posted a 2.86 ERA over 211 innings this past season with the Cardinals. He declined a qualifying offer in order to test free agency, so teams would have to surrender a draft pick in order to sign him. The Angels and Dodgers have also been mentioned as possible landing spots.

Wed Nov 28 201215:24Report: Dodgers interested in Kyle Lohse
Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles reports that the Dodgers have interest in free agent right-hander Kyle Lohse.
The deep-pocketed Dodgers are widely expected to be in the market for a starter this offseason and have also been mentioned as a possible suitor for Zack Greinke and Anibal Sanchez. Lohse declined a qualifying offer from the Cardinals in order to test free agency, so the Dodgers would surrender a draft pick if they end up signing him.

Fri Nov 9 201216:57Lohse declines qualifying offer from Cardinal
Kyle Lohse has declined the Cardinals' $13.3 million qualifying offer.
No surprise here. Lohse posted a 2.86 ERA in 33 starts this season and should be able to find a lucrative multi-year deal on the open market. The Cardinals will get a draft pick if he signs with another club.

Fri Nov 2 201218:06Cardinals make qualifying offer to Kyle Lohse
The Cardinals made a one-year, $13.3 million qualifying offer to impending free agent Kyle Lohse.
Not a big surprise, as Lohse is expected to seek a multi-year deal on the open market. The Cardinals will net a draft pick if he declines and signs elsewhere. The 34-year-old right-hander posted a 2.86 ERA in 33 starts this season.

Fri Nov 2 201210:34Cards to extend Kyle Lohse qualifying offer
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said the team will likely extend impending free agent Kyle Lohse a qualifying offer Friday.
There's little risk in doing so, as Lohse is set to sign a multi-year deal elsewhere. By giving him a qualifying offer, the Cards will now pick up a draft pick when Lohse departs. The 34-year-old posted a 2.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 33 starts this season.

Thu Oct 25 201212:22Mozeliak: Lohse is 'unlikely' to be re-signed
Cardinals GM John Mozeliak confirmed Thursday morning that Kyle Lohse is "unlikely" to be re-signed.
The Redbirds are stocked with young, cost-controlled starting pitchers and have no desire to go long term with the 34-year-old Lohse. He should do quite well in free agency after finishing the regular season with a sparkling 2.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 33 starts (211 innings).

Tue Oct 23 201200:10Kyle Lohse pounded in Game 7
Kyle Lohse was lit up for five runs over just two innings in Monday's loss to the Giants.
It was apparent early on that Lohse didn't have much. He allowed a run three batters into the game, gave up an RBI single to Matt Cain in the second and left with the bases loaded and no one out in the third. Lohse had a terrific regular season and allowed just four runs over his first three playoff outings, but his season certainly ends on a sour note. The impending free agent has set himself up for a big payday.

Wed Oct 17 201223:16Cardinals take 2-1 lead after downing Giants
Kyle Lohse wasn't super sharp but was good enough to win Wednesday, limiting the Giants to one run over 5 2/3 innings in the 3-1 NLCS Game 3 victory.
Lohse had to pitch out of multiple jams, as he allowed seven hits and an uncharacteristic five walks (though one of them was intentional), but he ultimately held the Giants in check. The right-hander has now allowed just four runs over his three postseason starts, posting a sparkling 1.96 ERA. He'll be used again in Game 7 if the Cards need him. Adam Wainwright will take on Tim Lincecum in Game 4 as St. Louis tries to go up three games to one.

Mon Oct 15 201221:20Kyle Lohse hasn't received offer from Cards
Impending free agent Kyle Lohse told Jim Bowden on SiriusXM's Inside Pitch that he hasn't received a contract offer from the Cardinals.
It's no surprise, as Lohse's departure from the Cards this winter is seen as a foregone conclusion given that they already have plenty of rotation depth and don't want to pay what it will cost to retain the righty. Lohse has admitted that he's already considered which teams might be a good fit, adding that his family will play a big part in the decision.

Thu Oct 11 201219:27Kyle Lohse fantastic in no-decision
Kyle Lohse was brilliant but took a no-decision Thursday, tossing seven innings of one-run ball in a loss to the Nationals.
Lohse allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out five. Adam LaRoche led off the second inning with a solo homer, but that was the lone mark against the right-hander all night. Lohse has permitted just three runs over 12 2/3 innings in his two playoff starts, continuing his terrific regular season work.

Mon Oct 8 201215:19Lohse could start NLDS Game 3
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny suggested Monday that Kyle Lohse could start Game 3 of the NLDS.
That's contingent on the Cardinals losing in Game 2 against the Nationals on Monday afternoon at Busch Stadium. Chris Carpenter is currently scheduled to start Game 3, but he pitched in only three games during the regular season due to thoracic outlet syndrome. Matheny clearly feels that Lohse would give the Redbirds a better chance for a victory in a potential knockout game.
