Reds manager Bryan Price said Tuesday that he expects Latos (elbow) to be fine for spring training, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Latos still has not been able to throw completely pain-free since his setback with his elbow earlier this month, but Price said he doesn't think there's concern that it will be a long-term problem. The right-hander missed the first two-and-a-half months of the season with an elbow injury, but his current issue is reportedly unrelated. "We anticipate him -- without any hiccups, any concerns at all -- going in to spring training 2015," Price said. "There are no reservations at all in that regard."

Latos (elbow) won't make another start in 2014, MLB.com reports.

Latos has missed his last two starts with a bone bruise in his throwing elbow, and the team has made the decision to shut him down for the remainder of the season. "We haven't gotten beyond the game of catch at this time. It hasn't been fluid or completely pain free," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "It's safe to say that Daniel will make that start." The "Daniel" to which Price is referring is Daniel Corcino, who is slated to pitch in Latos' spot Wednesday against the Brewers. "My goal was we knew Johnny [Cueto] was going to pitch Game 1 against Milwaukee [on Tuesday], and we felt like if we got to the point where Game 2 or 3 was when [Latos would] be ready, he could pitch then," Price said. "That does not look like the case. We're just not moving along fast enough."

He may be able to pitch in the near future after being scratched from last Friday's start with a bone bruise on his elbow. There's no official word on a timetable for Latos to return to the mound, but theoretically Wednesday and Friday could be possibilities if he's over the ailment, so stay tuned.

Latos said that his current elbow injury is unrelated to the one that he suffered last October and had to miss the beginning of the 2014 season for.

Latos also said that there was no specific play that caused the injury. "This is something I've probably thrown with the past three starts," Latos said. "I couldn't get a lot of extension. It just progressively got worse. The game before last, instead of throwing a bullpen, I threw on flat ground. Then the following bullpen session the other day, I tried to throw another [one on] flat ground and just couldn't. I threw maybe about 15 throws and it just really started bugging me."

Take Latos' optimism with a grain of salt, as the Reds haven't established a timetable for his return and given the fact that his injury is throwing-related, there's no guarantee they'll allow him to pitch again this season. Latos was scratched from his scheduled start Friday due to a bone bruise in his right elbow and will be replaced by right-hander Daniel Corcino.

Latos' scratch opens the door for Daniel Corcino to make his first career start opposite Kyle Lohse. It's uncertain whether Latos is in danger of miss multiple starts, but the Reds have nothing left to play for so they figure to take a cautious approach to his recovery.

Latos gave up three runs, all unearned after a Billy Hamilton error, on seven hits and a walk over six innings Sunday against the Mets. He struck out five.

That all three runs were unearned is a bit misleading, however, as the final two runs came on a two-run homer by Anthony Recker. The homer was just the ninth allowed all season by Latos in 102.1 innings.

Latos got rocked by the Orioles on Tuesday, giving up five runs on 10 hits and one walk with two strikeouts in five innings.

The game was delayed by two and a half hours, so that may have factored in to Latos' lack of effectiveness, but then again, Bud Norris pitched six shutout innings for the O's, so maybe not. He has now posted just one quality start over his last four, surrendering 8.5 hits per game over that stretch. He'll look to get back on track against a much more manageable Mets offense on Sunday.

Latos struck out 10 over seven-plus innings Wednesday against the Cubs, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk, striking out 10. He gave up two homers, both solo shots in the first inning.

This outing was actually better than the boxscore might indicate, as Latos left with none out in the eighth and two out, and Jonathan Broxton came in and allowed both inherited runners to score before he even retired one batter.

Latos struck out three and walked two while giving up one run on nine hits over six innings against the Braves on Friday night.

He did not factor in the decision, as the game went into extra frames and the Reds eventually lost in 12. Latos has held the opposition to three runs (or fewer) in six consecutive starts. He'll look to extend that streak to seven against the Cubs at Great American Ballpark on Wednesday.

Despite tossing seven solid innings Tuesday, Latos received a no-decision in a five-hit, one-run performance against the visiting Red Sox. He also walked one and struck out five.

Latos actually departed the game with a slight 2-1 lead before reliever Jonathan Broxton served up a two-run bomb to Yoenis Cespedes with two outs in the eighth, costing Latos what would have been his third win in a row and fifth of the season (4-3). He'll take his 2.95 ERA and excellent 0.94 WHIP into the thin air of Coors Field against the Rockies in his next start Sunday.

Latos improved to 4-3 on the year Wednesday. He allowed three runs on six hits, walking two and striking out five over 7.2 innings against the Indians.

Latos held the Indians scoreless through the first seven innings before Yan Gomes homered to start the eighth. Ryan Raburn came on as a pinch hitter and doubled in two to score the other runs. The right-hander has seen his strikeout rate drop to just 5.70 K/9 this season, the lowest of his career. His average fastball velocity is also down, from 92.6 mph to 90.4 mph. Despite all of this, Latos has continued to get the job done and holds a 3.12 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP through 66.1 innings. He'll take on the Red Sox next week in his home park.

Latos tossed seven strong innings Friday night, surrendering only one run on five hits and four walks while striking out five in a 5-2 win over the Marlins.

After posting a lackluster 5.00 ERA across his last three starts, Latos bounced back for an excellent effort Friday night versus the Fish. Though the big right-hander has put up a couple of clunkers, he has mostly produced solid results for the Reds over his nine starts this season. Latos will carry a 3.07 ERA and 0.94 WHIP into Wednesday's versus the Indians.

There's been no public concern expressed for Latos' elbow of late, but one imagines that the Reds would have had him start one of their first couple of games after the break if they hadn't believed he'd benefit from the extra rest. As is, he's had a couple of pretty mediocre starts his last two times out after three very strong outings previously. He's far from a sure thing in the second half.

He is still working on his velocity, but that will come, as will an increase in strikeouts. The Reds, 6-0-1 in their past seven series, saw their five-game winning streak snapped. Latos (1-1, 2.45 ERA) hosts Milwaukee this weekend.

Latos struck out two in the no-decision and will look for better results in a tasty matchup against the Cubs next week in Chicago.

He'll be a must-start fantasy pitcher the rest of the way.
