Thu Apr 3 201421:26Mat Latos roughed up in rehab start
Mat Latos (knee) was touched up for five runs -- three earned -- on seven hits and two walks over four innings in a rehab start with Double-A Pensacola Thursday.
Latos struck out three and threw 52 of 79 pitches for strikes. It's obviously not an ideal stat line, but as long as Latos comes out of the outing healthy the Reds won't be worried. The right-hander is slated to make one more rehab start before rejoining the Reds' rotation on April 13 or 14.

Fri Mar 28 201410:08Latos (knee) shooting for April 13-14 return
The Reds are hoping Mat Latos (knee) will be ready to rejoin the rotation on April 13 or 14.
Latos' surgically-repaired knee and elbow are feeling good, but he still needs to build up innings before being cleared for major league action. Alfredo Simon is serving as the club's fifth starter for now, but with off days he'll only need to make one start before April 13-14.

Fri Mar 21 201411:57Latos (knee) to start year on disabled list
Reds manager Bryan Price said Friday that Mat Latos (knee) will likely begin the season on the disabled list.
That's been the assumption for a while. The Reds have been hopeful that he could be ready on April 6 when they first need a fifth starter, but that's looking unlikely now with Price saying Alfredo Simon will begin the year in the rotation. Latos pitched in a minor league game Wednesday and will throw in another one soon, so the club will be able to backdate a DL stint if necessary. However, he simply might not have enough stamina built up to be able to start in a couple weeks.

Wed Mar 19 201416:59Latos (knee) goes two frames in minors game
Mat Latos (knee) threw 31 pitches over two innings in a minor league game on Wednesday.
Latos averaged 92-94 mph on his fastball and reported no issues with his surgically-repaired knee. It was his first live game of the spring. "I can't really complain for the first time," Latos said of his outing. "That first inning I was amped up and (was full of) adrenaline -- I was shaking on the mound, just trying to get the nerves out. It's something I've done for a long time, but with the crap I've been through the last couple of months, it was definitely exciting." He's hoping to join the Reds' starting rotation the second week of April.

Mon Mar 17 201419:27Latos (knee) could pitch in minors game Wed.
Mat Latos (knee) is tentatively scheduled to pitch in a minor league game on Wednesday.
Latos first has to make it through a Tuesday throwing session. He underwent surgery in mid-February for a tear of the meniscus in his left knee but is aiming to start the Reds' sixth game of the regular season on April 6 against the Mets. Because of an April 1 off-day, that's the first time Cincinnati will need a fifth starter.

Thu Feb 27 201422:03Mat Latos (knee) suffers a 'simple flare-up'
Mat Latos admitted that he suffered a "simple flare-up" with his surgically-repaired left knee while doing exercises.
"I aggravated it a little bit doing some extra exercises. It was a simple flare-up, nothing spectacular," Latos said. "It's like anything else. You overwork something and it gets aggravated, whether it's after surgery or not." The righty added that he doesn't consider the aggravation a setback and it's "nothing a little ice can't take care of." Latos is currently long-tossing from over 150 feet and could be cleared to throw off a mound soon.

Wed Feb 19 201422:50Latos throwing five days after knee surgery
Mat Latos threw for 10 minutes from 45 feet Wednesday, five days after having surgery on his left knee.
The minor surgery to repair a tear in the meniscus of his left knee wasn't supposed to keep him down long, but Latos has exceeded even optimistic expectations in the first few days after the operation. He didn't do any strenuous work, granted, but it's a good sign that he's already feeling well enough to do baseball activities. It's unclear what and when the next step in his recovery will be.

"Everything feels good," Latos said. "I'm doing stability exercises. I'm able to balance on that leg. I'm walking." Latos had minor surgery to repair a tear in his meniscus after injuring the knee while throwing. The Reds have said they expect Latos to be resume throwing in 10 days, and the injury isn't likely to carry over into the regular season.

Fri Feb 14 201413:08Latos has surgery to repair meniscus tear
Mat Latos underwent surgery Friday to repair a tear in the meniscus of his left knee.
Latos was injured when he slipped while throwing. He's expected to resume his throwing in 10 days, so it's possible he'll still have enough time to get ready for the beginning of the season. Still, it's obviously not an ideal situation. Latos also had an operation earlier this winter to remove bone chips from his right elbow.
