RHP Andrew Cashner (11-11) earned the victory in Texas' 8-4 win over Oakland on Saturday. In his last start of the season -- and as a pending free agent perhaps his last with Texas -- Cashner threw six innings, giving up two runs -- both in the sixth -- on five hits and two walks while striking out two. He finished the season with a 3.40 ERA, the second-lowest qualifying figure by a Rangers pitcher in the past four seasons. "I think it's been a great year for me," Cashner said. "I don't know, it's kind of overwhelming to soak it all in. I think I was consistent every day as a teammate, as a player, went out there and giving it all I had every day."

The seven unearned runs tied a Texas club record done four times and also matched the most in the majors this season. Cashner was pulled after 3 2/3 innings. "I never found a way to recover," he said. "Tried to make pitches, get the swing and miss, and it snowballed quick."

RHP Andrew Cashner (stiff neck) felt a little better Wednesday and could return to the rotation this weekend. Cashner was scheduled to start Tuesday night against the Mets but was scratched several hours before first pitch. He said his improvement wasn't "drastic" but that he could move his neck more easily than he did Tuesday. The Rangers have not announced starters for Saturday or Sunday's games against the Astros, an indication they are hopeful Cashner and RHP Tyson Ross (blister) can be ready by then. Cashner is 7-4 with a 3.36 ERA in 18 starts this season.

RHP Andrew Cashner (stiff neck) was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday, when the Rangers fell to the Mets, 5-4. RHP A.J. Griffin, who was scheduled to start Wednesday, was moved up a day and took the loss after allowing four runs in five innings. Cashner said he woke up Tuesday with a stiff neck that was so bad he initially couldn't turn his head. He felt better later in the afternoon and had the neck treated during the game but did not improve enough to be penciled in for Wednesday's series finale. With an off-day Thursday, Cashner will likely start Friday's series opener against the Astros as long as he experiences improvement. Cashner is 7-4 with a 3.36 ERA in 18 starts this season.

"The four-seam and two-seam attack with the fastball was big," Texas manager Jeff Banister said of Cashner. "I felt like he had a solid approach with the mix and he was able to get the four-seam up in the zone. He induced a number of pop ups tonight, really probably more than he's had in a game."
