Mon Jul 30 201221:28Dodgers will not trade Webster for Dempster
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Dodgers will not trade pitching prospect Allen Webster for Ryan Dempster.
Chicago is pulling out all the stops with the Dodgers, the club presumed to be the only logical destination for Dempster that the veteran will accept at trade to. Not only have the Cubs targeted Webster in talks, but they have also reportedly attempted to get L.A. to take Alfonso Soriano's albatross contract in a swap. Baseball fans will get a good glimpse into both front office's ideologies going forward whether a deal is consummated or not.

Mon Jul 30 201215:02Cubs trying to deal Ryan Dempster to Dodgers
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal heard from a source Monday that the Cubs are "trying to bend over backwards" to trade right-hander Ryan Dempster to the Dodgers.
Dempster has 10-and-5 rights and has already used them once this summer to block a trade to the Braves. Rosenthal calls Los Angeles the veteran starter's "desired" destination. Now it's all about finding a match.

Mon Jul 30 201212:56Dodgers, Cubs still discussing Ryan Dempster
Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Dodgers and Cubs are still discussing a Ryan Dempster trade.
And there's also some belief that the Braves are still alive in the running for the veteran right-hander. Dempster, 35, has posted a 2.25 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 104 innings this season for the 42-58 Cubs. He has 10-and-5 rights, which grant him veto power over any potential trade.

Fri Jul 27 201220:54Report: Cubs discussing Dempster for Lindblom
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports that the Cubs and Dodgers are discussing a possible swap of Ryan Dempster for Josh Lindblom.
Lindblom, a relief pitcher, was a second round pick of the Dodgers in 2008 and is 1-3 with a 2.13 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 54/14 K/BB ratio in 34 games for Double-A Chattanooga this season. The two sides continue to go back and forth trying to hammer out the details of this deal, but it's looking increasingly likely that Dempster will become a member of the Dodgers as soon as they can agree on the particulars.

Thu Jul 26 201220:22Dodgers reject Cubs' offer in Dempster deal
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Dodgers rejected an offer that would have sent Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster to Los Angeles for prospect right-hander Allen Webster.
People briefed on the talks are saying the the Dodgers are only willing to offer a couple of lesser pitcher who may project as relievers in the long run. Interestingly, it seems the Dodgers are more interested in fellow Cubs right-hander Matt Garza rather than Dempster.

Thu Jul 26 201218:14Cubs 'closer' to sending Dempster to Dodgers
David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com reports that the Cubs are "moving closer" to trading right-hander Ryan Dempster to the Dodgers.
This confirms an earlier report by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Kaplan hears that various scenarios are currently being discussed, including a possible multi-team deal. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reported earlier this week that the Cubs were asking for prospect right-hander Allen Webster in return from Los Angeles.

Wed Jul 25 201215:18Ryan Dempster loses to Pirates
Ryan Dempster yielded three runs in six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Pirates.
Dempster was steamed after being pulled and started taking apart a water cooler in the Cubs dugout. This was probably his last start with the Cubs, but then, that's what we thought last time out, too. He's 5-5 with a 2.25 ERA.

Wed Jul 25 201211:31Cubs could consider keeping Dempster
ESPN's Buster Olney writes that that unless offers improve, the Cubs' current plan is to keep Ryan Dempster and make a qualifying offer this offseason to receive draft pick compensation.
It's all part of the negotiation process, as the Cubs aren't satisfied with the Dodgers' current offer. The Dodgers have the upper hand in talks at the moment, as Dempster has made it clear that he would prefer to pitch in Los Angeles rather than Atlanta. A deal with the Braves isn't completely dead, but Braves general manager Frank Wren conceded Wednesday that it's "highly unlikely."

Wed Jul 25 201209:37Dempster set to make start Wednesday
Ryan Dempster is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's matinee against the Pirates.
And unless Dempster agrees to a trade in the next three hours, he will make his scheduled start. The Cubs agreed to a deal on Monday that would have sent Dempster to the Braves for 22-year-old right-hander Randall Delgado. However, Dempster has 10-and-5 rights and can veto any deal, so he is currently taking his time to decide. The veteran right-hander would reportedly prefer to be traded to the Dodgers.

Tue Jul 24 201219:46Dodgers can get Dempster w/ out giving up Lee
Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that "there are ways" for the Dodgers to acquire Ryan Dempster without having to give up top pitching prospect Zach Lee.
The Dodgers have balked at the Cubs' asking price to this point, which led to Chicago seeking out the Braves. It would make sense if they've been asking for Lee, but it sounds like he doesn't necessarily have to be included for a deal to go down. Dempster could wind up deciding to accept a trade to Atlanta but will take his time.

Tue Jul 24 201216:20Dempster plans to take time on trade decision
Ryan Dempster told reporters Tuesday that he will take "much of the next week" to decide on a potential trade.
The Cubs worked out a deal on Monday that would have sent Dempster to the Braves for 22-year-old right-hander Randall Delgado. But Dempster has 10-and-5 rights, which allows him to veto any trade, and is taking his time deciding whether he wants to go to Atlanta. The Cubs are also said to be engaged in negotiations with the Dodgers. Dempster expects to make his scheduled start for Chicago on Wednesday.

Tue Jul 24 201214:35Dempster to Braves deal to be resolved soon
ESPN's Jayson Stark was told by a source that the status of the Ryan Dempster-to-Atlanta deal should be resolved "shortly."
The Cubs and Braves reached agreement Monday on a trade that would send Dempster to Atlanta for 22-year-old right-hander Randall Delgado. However, Dempster is currently mulling over whether to sign off on the deal, as he would prefer to be traded to the Dodgers. Stark notes that the Cubs continue to talk with both the Braves and the Dodgers.

Tue Jul 24 201213:36Dempster would prefer to be traded to Dodgers
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Ryan Dempster would prefer to be traded to the Dodgers.
The Cubs and Braves reached agreement Monday on a trade that would send Dempster to Atlanta for 22-year-old right-hander Randall Delgado. However, Dempster has 10-and-5 rights and can veto any deal. His desire to pitch in Los Angeles, which is closer in proximity to his home in Vancouver, explains the current hang-up. The problem is that the Cubs prefer the Braves' offer and the Dodgers are trying to trade for other starting pitchers. The appeal to pitch for a contender may ultimately win out, but it's not the slam-dunk many assumed it was 24 hours ago.

Tue Jul 24 201210:05Dempster 'blindsided' by word of trade
According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, Ryan Dempster felt "blindsided" when word of a trade to the Braves was leaked to the media on Monday.
Dempster had given preliminary indications that he would accept a trade to the Braves. However, the veteran right-hander wasn't happy when word of a completed deal leaked out in the media before the Cubs had a chance to inform him. Dempster has 10-and-5 rights and can veto any trade, so he is currently mulling over the situation. He is scheduled to pitch Wednesday, so a decision is expected before then. If he agrees to the deal, the Braves would send 22-year-old right-hander Randall Delgado to Chicago.

Mon Jul 23 201220:11Ryan Dempster trade now '50/50' to go down
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that a trade that would send Ryan Dempster to the Braves and Randall Delgado to the Cubs is now "50/50" to happen.
The deal looked like it was about to become official earlier Monday, but there's an apparent hangup. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Dempster might be hesitating to waive his 10-and-5 rights, which would make sense. A resolution seems likely to come sometime over the next 24 hours.

Mon Jul 23 201216:33Cubs, Braves waiting on Dempster to OK deal
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Cubs and Braves are waiting on Ryan Dempster's approval on a trade that would send him to Atlanta.
The Cubs and Braves have reportedly reached agreement on a deal that would sent Dempster to Atlanta for 22-year-old right-hander Randall Delgado. However, Dempster wrote on his Twitter account Monday afternoon that "there is no trade." The veteran right-hander has 10-and-5 rights and can veto any deal, so he must give his formal approval first. He has indicated in the past that he would be willing to join a contender, so just because he has veto power doesn't mean he'll use it in this case.

Mon Jul 23 201214:10Confirmed: Dempster being traded to Braves
Mark Bowman of MLB.com has confirmed that Cubs righty Ryan Dempster is being dealt to the Braves.
Bowman is "hearing" that Randall Delgado will be sent to Chicago in return, but it sounds like talks are ongoing in regards to that piece of the puzzle. Dempster, 35, has posted a 2.11 ERA and 77/27 K/BB ratio in 98 innings (15 starts) this season for the last-place Cubs. His contract includes a no-trade clause but he was probably more than willing to join a contender like the Braves.

Mon Jul 23 201213:56Braves 'appear close' to acquiring Dempster
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Braves "appear close" to landing Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster.
The Cubs front office has been aggressive in trying to deal Dempster over the past several days in order free up time and focus for the soon-to-come Matt Garza trade talks. Dempster, 35, has posted a stellar 2.11 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 98 innings this season for Chicago. He'd obviously provide a big boost to the iffy Atlanta rotation. ESPN's Jayson Stark says a swap could be completed by Monday afternoon.

Sat Jul 21 201212:13Report: Dodgers 'very unlikely' for Dempster
A source tells FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal that the Dodgers are "very unlikely" to trade for Ryan Dempster.
The Dodgers view Dempster as a rental, and reportedly balked at the package the Cubs are asking for in return. Rosenthal suggests that Matt Garza is now a more logical trade target, who is under team control through 2013. The Nationals, Braves and Tigers remain interested in Dempster. Garza was recently linked to the Royals.

Fri Jul 20 201223:45Dempster's scorless streak ends in loss
Ryan Dempster's scoreless innings streak was snapped at 33, as he allowed four runs on seven hits over his six frames.
He walked two while striking out two in the game. It was one of Dempster's worst starts of the season, and you have to wonder if all of the trade rumors swirling around played a role. Dempster is now 5-4 with an elite 2.11 ERA on the season. In all likelihood, this will be his final start in a Cubs uniform.
