Sun Mar 27 201110:28Chris Snyder might not be ready for opener
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle confirmed that Chris Snyder's (back) availability for Opening Day is in doubt.
"It could have an impact on our catching situation," Hurdle said. "We need to revisit what the issues are. ... But for it to happen again, we will have to see, but it definitely could jeopardize what we do with our roster." If Snyder has to start the season on the DL, Ryan Doumit would be used as the everyday catcher.

Sat Mar 26 201108:15Chris Snyder scratched with sore back
Chris Snyder was scratched from Saturday's lineup with back soreness.
It might be time to start worrying about his availability for the start of the season. Snyder has sat out most of March with back issues that simply won't go away. At the very least, we might see Ryan Doumit getting more time behind the plate early on than he originally would have.

Sat Mar 12 201111:52Chris Snyder scratched from lineup
Chris Snyder has been scratched from Saturday's lineup due to tightness in his lower back.
Snyder hasn't been able to play since Wednesday, though he's obviously close. He's considered day-to-day and should be back in there soon enough. Snyder is slated to be the Pirates' regular catcher this season, though he's likely to be spelled fairly often by Ryan Doumit.

Sat Jul 31 201003:01Pirates to land catcher Snyder from D'Backs
Pending approval by the commissioner's office, Chris Snyder will be traded from the Diamondbacks to the Pirates.
It's still unknown what the Pirates will give up in return, but it looks like they've found an upgrade from Ryan Doumit behind the plate. The Diamondbacks will pick up a portion of the $5.75 million that Snyder is owed next season.

Fri Jul 30 201021:55Report: Pirates close to acquiring C Snyder?
The Diamondbacks and Pirates are discussing a deal that would send catcher Chris Snyder to Pittsburgh, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
Snyder's contract is a big hurdle and Arizona would likely have to pick up a large percentage of it to consummate this deal. He is making $4.75 million this year and is due $5.75 million next year. Snyder has a $6.75 million club option in 2012 or a $750,000 buyout. The 29-year-old is hitting .231 with 10 home runs and 32 RBI.

Mon Jul 26 201022:56D-Backs not done dealing
According to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, the Diamondbacks would still like to move Chris Snyder and Chad Qualls and are open to dealing Adam LaRoche.
None of these names should be a surprise. Snyder is the clear backup to Miguel Montero at this point, but his contract continues to be a hurdle, not to mention the fact that not many teams are looking for an everyday catcher at the moment. For as bad as Qualls has looked this season, he has largely been one of the most lucky pitchers in the sport. LaRoche, meanwhile, could be a cheaper alternative to Derrek Lee and Lance Berkman.

Thu Jul 22 201002:31D'Backs' Snyder delivers game-winner
Pinch-hitter Chris Snyder singled in Justin Upton in the bottom of the 14th to give the Diamondbacks a 4-3 win over the Mets on Wednesday night.
And their first three-game sweep of a series since last August. Snyder started off his at-bat against Fernando Nieve by hooking a potential homer just outside the left-field foul pole. He went on to smoke a liner over Jason Bay's head that would have been a clean double under normal circumstances. It scored Upton from second after he doubled to reach base for the fifth time in the contest.
Fri Jul 2 201020:23D'backs called Red Sox about Chris Snyder
According to Peter Gammons of NESN and MLB Network, the Diamondbacks called the Red Sox on Friday to engage them in trade talks regarding catcher Chris Snyder.
It makes some sense. After the injuries to Victor Martinez and Jason Varitek, the Red Sox are stuck with a tandem of Kevin Cash and Gustavo Molina. That's fine for a few games, but they can't go with this combination for an extended period of time. That doesn't mean a trade is a slam dunk, as there are still concerns about Snyder's health and his expensive contract. The 29-year-old backstop is batting .238/.356/.442 with nine home runs and 28 RBI in 172 at-bats this season.

Tue May 4 201000:21D'Backs' Snyder hits three-run homer
Chris Snyder hit a three-run homer and was intentionally walked twice Monday in the win over the Astros.
As well as Snyder has played, it's worth wondering why the Diamondbacks are hitting him eighth, particularly with Conor Jackson out and Gerardo Parra seeming like an obvious choice for the spot. Snyder won't keep his average at his current .266, but he's a fine hitter for a catcher. He has five homers and 16 RBI in 64 at-bats this season.
Fri Apr 23 201011:56Red Sox targeting Chris Snyder?
A major league source tells Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com that the Red Sox have targeted Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder on their "down-the-road hit list."

Sun Apr 11 201019:34Snyder drives in five while replacing Montero
Filling in for the injured Miguel Montero, Chris Snyder homered and doubled to drive in five runs on Sunday.
Montero was placed on the disabled list before the game, and Snyder immediately reminded everyone why he was the starter before injuries hit last season. Snyder isn't going to hit for average, but he has 20-homer power if he could ever stay healthy. Snyder is probably about as good as Montero owners will be able to do while he's on the disabled list.
Tue Apr 6 201023:42D'Backs Snyder to start on Wednesday
Chris Snyder will start Wednesday's series finale against the Padres.
There's nothing to fear here, as Miguel Montero is clearly the starter, but Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch has repeatedly said that Synder won't be a forgotten man. "We have two Major League catchers," said Hinch. "I'm not going to bury Snydes."
