Latos gave up six runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings Thursday against visiting Arizona. He struck out seven and walked a pair.
Well, you can at least point to the strikeouts and walks for positives, as well as the fact that Latos kept the ball in the yard. His 3.48 FIP sharply clashes with his 6.12 ERA, so it's reasonable to expect that Latos will find some better luck along the way and improve what's been a hideous stat line. He'll try to embark on that endeavor Tuesday against Pittsburgh.

Latos (shin) expects to make his next start after leaving Saturday's outing.
This news came from before Sunday's game, after which Mike Redmond was fired as the manager. So his quote might not necessarily carry over: "It's just a sore left ankle, shin area, but it looks like he's going to be fine," Redmond said Sunday. "Like I said yesterday, X-rays were negative and it's just stiff and sore. But he should be fine."

Latos (shin) lasted just three innings on Saturday before leaving with a bruised shin thanks to a Cameron Maybin comebacker, giving up five runs on eight hits including a grand slam to light-hitting Jace Peterson.
After two straight strong starts, Latos' performance took a step back on Saturday, sending his ERA climbing back up to 5.54. Assuming the shin injury doesn't disrupt his usual schedule, he'll look to deliver some quality innings on Thursday at home to the Diamondbacks.
Sat May 16 201514:40Mat Latos: Left Shin Contusion
Latos left Saturday's game against the Braves with a left shin contusion, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
It seems Latos was able to avoid a serious injury after being hit by a line drive off the bat of Cameron Maybin, as the Marlins are saying he merely suffered a bruise and is day-to-day. That said, Latos won't be in the clear to make his next start until he completes his between-starts bullpen session.
Sat May 16 201514:22Mat Latos: Early Exit Saturday
Latos left Saturday's game after being struck near the left ankle by a line drive off the bat of Atlanta's Cameron Maybin in the top of the fourth inning.
The Braves have been a nightmare for Latos all season long, and Saturday was no different. Latos surrendered five runs on eight hits -- including a grand slam to Jace Peterson -- before suffering the injury. He was able to walk off the mound under his own power, but Latos should be considered day-to-day and questionable to make his next start until more information becomes available.

Latos turned in his best performance of the season on Sunday against the Giants, allowing one run on seven hits with five strikeouts in seven innnings-pitched.
The 27-year-old has been much better of late after an awful start to the season, with quality starts in three of his last four appearances, and was in line to earn his second win until his team blew a lead in the ninth inning. Latos refrained from walking a batter for the first time this season on Sunday and will look to continue his season's evolution against the Braves on Saturday.

Latos gave up one run on two hits and five walks with six strikeouts in 6.1 innings Tuesday against the Nationals to pick up his first win of the season.
Latos said this was the best he's felt all season, and while the five walks are a bit unsightly, it does not matter if he is only giving up two hits. He was able to generate more ground balls (11) than in any of his previous starts this season and Latos also eclipsed 100 pitches for the first time this year. After a dreadful first start of the season Latos has given up three runs or fewer in five straight starts and appears to be settling into the starter fantasy owners thought they were getting in the draft.

Latos (hamstring) threw a success bullpen session Saturday and will make his scheduled start Tuesday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Latos left Wednesday's start with a sore hamstring, but it doesn't sound like a major issue.
Wed Apr 29 201521:14Mat Latos: Left Hamstring Strain
Latos was removed from Wednesday's game with a left hamstring strain.
Latos tossed 84 pitches over five innings prior to exiting, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts against the Mets. The team lists Latos as day-to-day, but his status for his next scheduled start is uncertain.

Latos was left with a no-decision, allowing two runs on six hits, with one walk and four strikeouts over 6.1 innings of Miami's 3-2 win over Washington Friday night.
While he didn't notch a win, it was a second respectable start for Latos who opened the season with two disastrous outings. He's now 0-3 with an ugly 7.31 ERA, but there is reason for optimism as things do seem to be going the right direction.

Latos pitched five solid innings Saturday in a loss to the Mets allowing two earned runs on six hits.
The right-hander dropped to 0-3 on the season but there were some positive takeaways from the outing. After a coupe of poor turns to start the season, Latos struck out five and walked just one. Despite pitching well, Latos was lifter for a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning after just 75 pitches as the Marlins desperately searched for a spark on offense.

Latos could not get back on track Monday, allowing three runstwo earnedin four-plus innings.
Latos allowed five hits and walked three in his turbulent start. Having posted sub-3.50 ERAs in every season since his rookie campaign, Latos should find his footing eventually in Miami. His next opportunity will be this weekend in New York agains the Mets.

Latos started his 2015 campaign in about the worst way possible, giving up seven earned runs on six hits and two walks in 0.2 innings Tuesday against the Braves.
Considering the Braves were one of the most lampooned offenses coming into the year and Latos had the spacious confines of Marlins Park at his disposal, this would have been an impossible outcome to predict. Latos was firing a lot of straight fastballs right down the pipe, making it easy on a middling Braves lineup. His velocity seemed to be right in line, and it may have just been an issue of locating. Latos will get his chance at redemption against this very same Braves lineup Monday in Atlanta, and will pitch a second time next week on the road against the Mets.

Latos tossed 86 pitches in a minor league game Thursday, his final tune-up ahead of his regular season debut Tuesday against the Braves.
After getting a slow start to the spring season, Latos declared himself healthy for the start of year. His less-than-stellar spring line (12 ER allowed and 9:6 K:BB ratio in 15.1 innings pitched) is skewed by a disastrous outing against the Mets but the right-hander looked much better in his last two trips to the hill. Prior to an injury riddled 2014, Latos established himself as one of the most consistent starters in baseball, averaging a 3.27 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 200 inning pitched per season from 2010-13 with the Padres and Reds.

Latos tossed three scoreless innings during his Grapefruit League debut Friday against the Cardinals.
He allowed two hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks. Latos has been eased into game action with his new club coming off of an injury riddled 2014 campaign. Owner of a career 3.34 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, Latos is a strong bet to bounce back to his near-elite production if healthy this season.
Sun Mar 8 201510:58Latos will throw in simulated game Monday in Jupiter
Latos will throw in a simulated game Monday in Jupiter, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.
Latos was originally scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut Monday against the Mets but will apparently be held out for a little while longer. Latos is working his way back from an injury-marred 2014 campaign that saw him lose a few ticks on the radar gun and post a declining strikeout rate. Despite declaring the right-hander free of restrictions at the start of camp, it appears the team will ease him into game action.
Mon Feb 23 201518:12Latos (knee) has no restrictions to begin spring training
Latos (knee) has no restrictions to begin spring training, the Marlins' official site reports.
After being limited to 16 starts (102.1 innings) with the Reds during his final season in Cincinnati, Latos stands to benefit from the move to a more pitcher-friendly home park and division if he's able to keep the knee and elbow issues that plagued him last season in the past.
Thu Feb 5 201511:40Latos (elbow) lost arbitration hearing Wednesday
Latos (elbow) lost his arbitration hearing Wednesday, and will make $9.4 million in the 2015 season, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Latos dealt with several elbow issues in 2014 that limited to 102.1 total innings, which quite possibly may have affected the outcome of this hearing. If anything, this could serve as additional motivation for the right-hander entering a contract year.
Thu Dec 11 201412:12Latos traded to Marlins on Thursday
Latos was traded to the Marlins on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.
Latos, who'd thrown at least 180 innings in each of his last four seasons, including more than 200 in both 2012 and 2013, was limited to only 102.1 innings in 2014, as he battled multiple elbow issues. He was still able to go 5-5 with a healthy 3.25 ERA and 1.153 WHIP. The 26-year-old should slot in as a front-end starter for Miami.

Latos said Tuesday that he recently underwent a procedure to insert stem cells into his elbow to help with the missing ligament from previous bone spur surgery, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com reports.
Apparently, the procedure was needed to help regrow some of the missing tissue in the elbow. Latos underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove the bone spurs from the region in October of 2013, and the elbow presented issues on and off in 2014, but manager Bryan Price has already said that he expects Latos to be fine for spring training. He has one more year remaining on his contract.
